it was us along four other couples getting married... it was interesting because the other couple whos getting married this year, seems to have already talked about the questions that were discussed like we did... but the couples getting married in 2005 seems like they didnt talk about it... some of the questions that were asked..... - who's going to handle the checkbook each month -where will you go on the holidays - do you think you should always tell the truth - do you plan on going to church after the wedding - if your wife got a big opportunity would you be supportive and move with her. - are they inlaws or outlaws - what will you call your fh's parents after the wedding -do you find it important to have a women's/man's night out

Re: So we went to precana last night.....
THANK YOU! Our priest has been so rude to us! He said we were either Muslim or Jewish but DEF. not Catholic because we don't go to church every Sunday! I really don't see how having to sit in a small room with this man and defend myself is going to help my marriage! FYI my FH owns restaurants and I manage a watch store so it's a little hard to make time on the weekends! I'm really sick over it!

It really depends on how the host couples are. Also-- neither the priest NOR the church are involved with this-- there are volunteer couples that run the group, and what is said in the group stays in the group (they are not allowed to go back and tell the priest).
I was dreading it too (fh is not religious; i'm borderline), but it really has been a Great experience. Its just meant to open your eyes to conversations that you may not have even thought to had (the topics that are chosen are pretty much the same ones for every pre-cana group-- these topics bascially revolve around the issues that have led to a high divorce rate-- b/c couples did not talk about them before they got married)
Financial matters and Communication (or lack there of) are some of the biggest causes of divorce, so they try to get us to tackle it now, so that it doesnt lead to something bad later on.

Re: So we went to precana last night.....
honestly, fh weren't dreading it because we've seemed to talk about all those topics...
the people running it told us, that honestly they dont care so much as what our answers are, that the questions are asked so that the topics are brought up and that the couple can actually think about them and discuss any conflicts they have....
the one thing the priest did say was that with the holidays splitting them is very difficult.... that when kids come family especially push for more time with them...

Re: So we went to precana last night.....
FH and I took the FOCUS last week, and we have our first meeting this friday. Unfortunately, my church belives that my schedule is open for weekly for precana sessions, because they do not believe in a one day deal, ITS OVER THE ENTIRE MONTH OF OCTOBER!!!! Because I have nothing better to do than to spend 5 separate two hours sessions in Precana.
I really dont have an opinion about this!

we have it weekly too. the time flies though b/c everyone is talking the whole time.
btw... they said the same thing to us-- they dont need to hear our answers.. its just brought up so that we can talk about it as a couple

What a moron!! I know I shouldn't say that about a priest, but that is really ignorant. And they wonder why people are leaving the Catholic church? Actually ours has not been bad. It's been kinda interesting, although we havent talked about most of the things mentioned in the first post.
