Our minimum is 120, our maximum is 150. We sent out invitations for 198 people. What happens if we end up having more than 150?
By the way - that whole '20% of your guestlist will say no...found it be false in my case since our family is ridiculously large (mom is one of 6 kids, dad is one of 13 kids...and each one of my aunts and uncles has at least 2 kids...) But ANYWAY....

Re: So what happens if you go over your max....
The no's will come...everyone freaks out thinking that they won't, but they will!! People wait until the last minute to mail the no's. They always come last.
As for what to do...that's something only your hall can help you with since they'll have to deal with the space.

Re: So what happens if you go over your max....
I with you.....I have 115 yeses so far and still waiting on 81 responses.....since I expected the 20% I sent invitations to 196 guests expecting 40 no's.
So now I have officially 115 and non officially (people saying 'yes I'm going just been forgetting to mail the rssvp ) 40.....which brings me very close to the amount that fits comfotable in the room we're in!!!!!!
So please tell us what happens???????

Did you see that post of the last couple of days? Where the guests rushed to reserve the tables and chairs and the parents and bride and grooms did not have a table to seat?

You will wind up with tables on the dance floor. Happened to my secretary's daughter. Practically everyone said yes, (she had guests come from Mexico that were supposed to be no's) and they were over the room capacity.

I'm so confused. Was there not assigned seating? Did people not have a table assigned to them?
Apparently the bride had changed plan at last minute.
Now for my own experience, the bride invited 400 people HOPING 150 would say no. She does not know where to put them in the place and how to pay for it.

Wow...the outlook some of you have is gloomy. Call me naive, but isn't this really a worst case scenario provided the hall has every other larger rooom booked that night?
I don't know...I guess I feel this is something the hall is better equiped to answer since they can give you a factual response and not an asumption.
Not good to start freaking out...

Sorry to say this was entirely the bride's fault. How do you rationally send out invites hoping for a 37.5% no reponse rate? She set herself up for failure. That's insane and not good planning.

Re: So what happens if you go over your max....
Sometimes you need to have a primary list (conservative) and a second list if a lot of your primary does not show up.
For instance, we have a set number of people we want at our wedding for sure. And some people we MAY want to invite. The second list does not get kicked in unless our number does not reach the minimum.

I don't think she was stupid. Just not realistic. It stinks that her parents had nowhere to sit!

I think you have to discuss the extra guests with the hall. If you have tables of 10 then you have to increase it to 12 at a table. Maybe add an extra table or play around with how the tables are set up.
It might be a little tight, but things will be ok. Try not to stress about it (easier said than done).

Oh.. those are 2 different stories. SORRY! The parents not having a table is a post that came out yesterday I believe.
The story of that girl I know...the wedding did not happen yet. They don't know what to do. I guess 'stupid' may have been harsh. But what was she thinking???

In my case....according to my reception hall they fit 180 comfortable.....according to brides and guest that have been in that room 168 is max..... I think I'm going to have a little over 180. If everyone who is left to answer says yes I'll have 189! I called the hall and they said worst case scenario they can put 16 guests per table (the room only fits 12 tables). 16 per table is too many people...my opinion.
Christine.....want to disappear together we can have a dual marriage on the beach and let the guest figure it out on their own!!!!!
Just kidding....but I'm stressed!

Re: So what happens if you go over your max....
I went to a wedding at a hall that should've held around 200 and they had about 280. It seemed to be like there was an ultimatum given, this place or bust. I was also there at a wedding where they had around 200.
The cocktail hour was extremely cramped and they put more seats at the tables.
They aren't going to say you can't have that many people because well, you're bringing in more money!
You should be fine though because you aren't trying to fit in that many extra people if need be.

Re: So what happens if you go over your max....
Thanks for all your feedback ladies. I'm very confident that I won't have more than 160, but my room is comfortable with 120 (min) and a little tight with 150 (max)...just trying to do the math on spacing if I go over by one or two tables.
Darlene - thanks for reminding me about the dance floor! Totally forgot about that - and you're 99% right - we'll just lose some space on the dance floor if anything.
Chas - yes, running off together for a beach - totally sounds awesome right now! I can't believe I was 'calming' you down last week about the guestlist, and now look at me!
Sasha - I agree with every single thing you've said on this post. Thanks so much love!
Don't worry ladies, I'm not freaking out. I honestly don't care if we go over the max, I was just really curious to see if anyone went through this, and the hall responded negatively (we can't accommodate you) or whatever...

they wont say they cant accomodate you, it will just be a little cramped. you should call up your hall and ask, i am sure they have dealt with this before.

I just wanted to prepare myself for the 'We can't have that many people in the room because it's a FIRE HAZARD.'
