Two of my cousins had wedding equivalent sweet sixteen parties. Over 8 'BMs' & 'GMs' a piece, over 200 people, sit down dinner reception, topself open bar, the whole nine. I was a 'BM' (what the heck do you call that anyway for a Sweet 16?) in one of them. We had white gowns made and we carried umbrellas. A limo took us to the church for the special mass and then onto the Cordon Bleu in Queens for the reception. For the other one, she had her 'reception' at the Astoria World Manor. I heard my aunt spent about $25k on the first one and about $40k on the second one. The 2nd one had a mariachi band, a very well known and popular merengue band (Oro Solido) and stretch hummer limos. The Sweet 16er wore a huge white ballgown.

Re: So who had a Sweet 16 Party?
We didn't have a traditional one...my sister and I (I am an identical twin) each got to invite 10 friends and my mom took us all to Bennigans. She rented out a room and there was about 40 people including some relatives.
This is funny...since we were such a large party (and most of us snotty teenagers!), my mom left a really big tip for the waitresses that were there. They came running out to the car when we left because they thought that my mom overpaid...she said, that was your tip! The girls were so shocked...they said thanks and then my mom and dad laughed. I think she left them each @$150 and there was 3 of them!
By the way...I think we had a great time :)

I did. It was not at a fancy place, I had it at a Knights of Columbus which my mom and I decorated and I had a DJ. We all had a great time.

I did. I went to Bishop Kearney High School in Brooklyn. I went to a million Sweet 16's that were as fancy as a wedding. I had a smaller one in an Italian restaurant near my house. I invited a few girl friends and I had a DJ and it was fun.

Sounds like a quinceanera to me. My dress was a huge White Lacy thing.. layer upon layer upon layer of white lace. Poofy white ball gown. I just skipped the church bit. Since Im not catholic I couldn't see myself placing flowers in front of the Mother Mary. I only had 3 attendants. But I was in one with the offical 15!!!!! 15 girls, 15 boys. The cake was teired and had the 15 boys and 15 girls going up the cake to reach the top with the quinceanera girl figure on top.
Now that im planning my wedding i see so many similarities! It was almost like I've had a dry run.
Down to my cousin (little thing) nabbing a bit of the cake before it was time to cut. We caught it on tape. Finger swipe and all.
