Well the guy who they suspect might have killed her is the same guy who tried to get into my sister's car at the mall. She luckily locked herself in just in time. But he then proceeded to expose himself and masterbate on her car. She was smart and drove off. This happened over a year ago and my sister reported him. Some other girl did too and thats why he was on parole in the first place. But its so freaky to think what if my sister didn't have that extra second to lock her car?

I always lock my car as soon as I get in. And I'm really careful about who is near me when I get into my car too. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it), I think the worst of strangers so if there's a man walking near me, I'm super careful.

Plus I have the panic button and the horn so I'd totally be blasting that. If someone tries to steal me, I'm not falling for that come quietly and you won't get hurt nonsense. I'm putting up a fight. I'd rather take my chances with the gunshot or stab wound than trusting a psycho.

I don't think they should ever allow sex offenders out of prison. They're a danger to everyone around them - I don't care if it violates their rights or not.

I'm the SAME way!! My door is always locked and I check the backseat before I get into it. I'm also super vigilant of the people around me. I guess i just have heard too many stories. Better safe than sorry. If any guy is walking the same direction as me in a parking lot, my little radar definitely goes up. But sometimes I fail to lock the door AFTER I get into it. I'm definitely gonna be more on top of that NOW tho!!!

Definitely agree! But it would be hard to get that passed through the courts. Especially since it depends on the situation. I mean, I've heard of cases where a 19 or 20 year old falls in love with a 16, 17 year old and is then arrested for having sex with her, since she's 'underage'. Even after he gets out, he's still labeled as a Sex Offender for a long long time. That's a shame, cause it's way different than what sickos like THIS freak are doing!! But this guy definitely should stay in Prison forever - he's certainly a danger to be loose!!

The woman's name is Laura Garza and the creep's name is Michael Mele. They were at a club and then left together.

Not that I don't feel so incredibly bad for her and her family, but knowing that she wasn't just randomly abducted makes me feel a little better.

I always have to know the details when someone is missing or if there's an assault because I feel like if the circumstances don't apply to me (e.g., I don't go to clubs), then I can alleviate some of my anxiety, although I'm still super careful in general.

BTW, there's a school in Lindenhurst called Modern Warrior that does 2 different self defense courses for women - one is an 8 week course and the other is a rape prevention course that runs every few months and it's a couple of hours on like a Sunday night.

Well that's statutory rape where it's consensual. I'm talking about violent sex offenses. I wish there was more of a way to distinguish between the two in the law so it was easier to control the perverts.

wow so sad....i have to say though, i feel so sorry for the family, but don't girls think about leaving with a complete stranger at a club...i mean a million things could happen. i know you want to go out and have fun, but that's scarry and unfortunately something awful happened to this young girl.
