If you have a solitaire round e-ring, do you have it in a 4 or 6 prong setting?
Currently I have a 4 prong setting, but I'm getting it reset in platinum and was thinking about getting a 6 prong, BUT was wondering the pros and cons on the 6 prong setting if there is any?
Can anyone share their experience??
Thanks girls!

Re: Solitaire E-Rings.....4 or 6 Prong??
i have a 6 prong fh requested that bc he wanted more reassurance that the diamond was secure and my appraiser even said that the 6 was a better choice

Not sure what the pros or cons are BUT my solitare is set in 6 prongs and I just love the way it looks. Its a higher setting. Sorry not to helpful. Take a look at ones set with 6 prongs - if you like it switch.

I have a 4-prong, I inherited it from my grandmother... It was her 1st e-ring, in a classic Tiffany's setting

If your diamond is more than 1 carat then you should have a 6-prong setting. It's just better able to hold the stone in place.

I have been told positives and negatives about both. The 4 prong allows you to see more of the diamond, but I have also heard that the 6 provides more protection. If one prong breaks and you have a 4 prong, half of the diamond is now unprotected. My jeweler assured us the 4 was fine so I went with that since I thought the diamond looked nicer that way.

I made sure it was 6 prong b/c my mother's original ring was four prong and she lost her diamond!

Mine is set with 6 prongs. I love it and I feel more secure with the extra 2.

What about the stone? If it's in a 6 prong does the light get to it the same for the sparkle?

I have a 6 prong platinum setting & it in no way stops the sparkle factor! Its a rather high setting so the light reflects beautifully. I think its really just personal preference. I felt like the four prong gave my round stone a more squared look & I didn't like it- but that's just me. Either way a diamond is always beautiful!

Re: Solitaire E-Rings.....4 or 6 Prong??
i've been told tension is the best (meaning safest) followed by 6 prong, then 4 prong by various jewelers, but i guess they're all pretty safe or they wouldn't make them, huh? i do know people who've lost their diamond from a 4 prong setting and because of that fh wouldn't let me get a 4 prong, but i also didn't want to so it worked out.
if you're getting platnum, that should be a lot safer since it's such a hard metal you won't have to worry about it breaking as much.
i personally have a 5 prong setting.
whatever you do, don't get one of those 3 prong settings some companies have been coming out with, one prong breaks and your diamond is gone!

I have always been told that 6 prong is safer for the Diamond, as its more secure and the diamond is less likely to fall out

Re: Solitaire E-Rings.....4 or 6 Prong??
I have a 6-prong and i love it. . it makes the diamond sit higher so the light hits it better and adds to the sprarkle!
the only negative i would say is that sometimes the ring catches on thigns more often.... like on sweaters or hair gets stuck in when i put in my mousse... hahaha.... but it's not that bad. fortunately, i do not have a job where i have to worry about bumping my ring around too much, you might want to think about that before you choose what's best for you as the 6-prong sits higher.
