I found out today my parents offered me a extra diamond that my father purchased from my grandfather's estate. My mom has the other diamond that she put in a setting and its fairly large in my book and I know they are work 2-2.5K per diamond so I guess that is pretty large.
Issue: DH is not going to happy about it and I kinda don't blame him. He purchased this ring because he loved me and that is what he could afford. I have had issues with my setting being white gold because it is turning yellow every 3 months. DH did agree to switch out the setting to plat when we had some extra cash.
I am just not sure what to do now. I figured if I take the diamond use it as a center stone in a setting that is more like me (art deco/antique) and my current ering diamond as a side stone and purchase the same size diamond as a second side stone would that be so bad of me?
I don't want to be this 'I NEED A HUGE STONE' biach because I am soooo not that perso. My parents didn't pay for our wedding (which we are very happy about that) we did so maybe this is there thing to do now.

Talk to FH about it... see how he really would feel. If he is totally against it, you could make the diamond into an amazing pendant necklace/floating diamon type of thing which would be BEAUTIFUL!!

i would make the diamond into something else - not replace your ering stone - i think that would hurt your FHs feelings, i know it would def hurt mine

I like the legacy ring idea - you can wear it on your right hand and still wear your e-ring on your left.
It would hurt my feelings if I was in DH's situation. . .Good luck!

I voted 'other' and i would use the diamond for another piece of jewelry, whether it be a necklace, or earrings, or even a right hand ring..... HTH

i love the idea of a legacy ring i think thats such a sentamental idea and then you can get your antique/art deco ring! and wear it on your right hand..
my mom wears my great grandmas diamond wedding band when she gets dressed up and her band from my dad everyday so maybe you can do something like that or wear it as a right hand ring
I love the idea of a legacy ring. Is it too big for that?

I think I will do the pendant, thanks girls. I would do the legacy ring, i just don't know if i will look silly since its so much larger then my ring.
But we decided to wait two years and then make up our minds together. He says he might not mind getting a whole new ering if i do use the originally diamonds as well and combine it but he isn't sure yet but he deff. doesn't mind the necklace. So my parents said wait two years then figure out what we want to do and we agreed.

okay I am very sentimental so this is just my opinion. Personally I could never change a thing about my ering unless i had to to protect or fix it. I know how much time went into my DFh pickingit out and whatnot that it just means so much to me the way it is. So with that being said, I also can see how the new diamond also has meaning and is special to you. I also agree making it into a necklace would be a good idea. Thats what I would do.

No matter how much money or other diamonds we come into in the future i wouldn't want to change my e right...its the one DH picked out and I wouldn't want to alter that. You can do so much with the stone other then change your right....like everyone said make it into a beautiful pendant or make another ring out of it for your right hand. There are so many good uses for that wouldn't offend your guy.

my mom gave FH 3 - .75 carat diamonds from some of my grandmothers jewelery for my ring but at the jewelers advice didn't use them since the quality wasn't the best...so i'm going to be using them for a pendant instead!

My parents are setting rules for this diamond, they will not let me cut it up (tried that thinking of earrings) but as it was said it would reduce the value and my grandfather wanted them to passed on to us grandkids but didn't put it in exact words in the will and that is why my dad purchased it from the estate instead of selling them to split the cash with his sisters and brother.
WHOLE big thing when my grandpa passed away, another story. Maybe I will do a necklace in the end.
i think i would make a necklace...then its something seperate that means something to you
