Re: Some tips for Girls getting engaged soon.... (Come on girls)

Things I wish I would have known or learned earlier than I did....

1. After being engaged everything is wonderful, and sometimes that means you want to rush everything, and book everything right away, take time look around, see as many vendors as you want till you find the best one for you and your FH

2. Set a budget, a realistic one. Setting a budget helped me to say no to things that were not necessary. No reason to go to into debt over a wedding. Who wants to start their married life out paying off credit card debt caused by the wedding.

3. You may think you want you FH to be involved in all of the planning, trust me you don't. Let FH do things he is actually interested in, don't make him go along to see flowers if he hates them, he will only whine about how much they cost, or act bored. Men do not need to know details about everything.

4. Learn that not everyone wants listens to wedding plans, and drama. This is why LIW is wonderful, people on here actually want to listen to your wedding plans, ideas, and all of that juicy drama.

This is a VERY good point. After getting a few 'It's too early' and 'Just do whatever you want' responses from DH, I asked him what he wanted to be invloved in. Then I gave him a timeline for finishing 'his' projects (limos, tuxes, etc.), and told him that if he didn't complete them by the deadline I would take over the project. It might sound very strict, but it worked for us.

Make a budget and do your best to stick with in it.

I'm still newly engaged, but I agree with this as well. I told FH he can be as much or as little involved as he wants, but he needs to tell me now. He said he wanted to help with the RH, band/dj, and limos. Flowers, church, dresses, photography, e-party, everything else, he says to do myself.

Oh and if your FH is anything like mine, don't take him to register for crystal and china. We ended up in Fortunoff for 4 hours and he was miserable. He had a much better time in BBB where there were more toys for him.

DO NOT allow outside forces to influence your decisions. You set your wedding date when you want it. If you want a Sunday morning wedding, have it. If you do not want the church, or do want the church book it and enjoy it.

NO ONE NEEDS TO BE INVOLVED in any of the planning except you and FH. (Especially if no money is being offered to assist you in your plans)

There will be alot of fights and alot of thoughts, 'Why didn't I elope', just remember why you are marrying this person. You fell in love and decided to spend the rest of your life with them. Remember the planning will result in a happy day with a loving relationship for the rest of your life.

Do not let people make you feel inferior. You are your own person and the reason you are making the decisions for your wedding is because it is what you want/have envisioned.

Budget, Budget, Budget. If you know you can only afford XYZ be aware of every penny you are spending. Do not count on ppl saying no.

Enjoy and be happy!!

Hello Soon to be or Newly engaged ladies,

Here is my little piece of advice. Be happy if you have a 'Groomzilla' at least he is involved

ps. A groomzilla is a groom who instead of just agreeing and nodding and saying those pretty words of 'WHATEVER YOU WANT DEAR', complains about reception hall carpets, fabric swatches, invitation wording, table set up, etc.

Don't force him to give you a ring sooner - he will only take longer

Because after all, men are spiteful little monkeys...agreed.

Do the little detail oriented girly things FIRST, on your own time...if your FH is the type to put things off, if you wait until your major vendors are booked first, you'll lose out on a lot of choices. Figure out your hair, makeup, attire, and all those things while FH is busy absorbing what he just did...

Don't let WE TV and LIW brainwash you...be your own person. If you want a simple dress, buy a simple dress...don't think you have to have a ballgown in order to be a bride.

You are going to fight, and you're going to fight a lot...and when that happens, just make sure you stop and remember why you're doing this in the first place.

I completely AGREE! I've been watching WE tv and it amazes me of how all these brides have these huge dresses. I'm sorry but I want to be comfortable on my day. And with the economy today nobody has that type of money for these outrageous dresses & weddings.

1. The engagement is between the TWO of you. Not you, your FH AND your family. Remember, family drama will occur but please, don't let it ruin your engagement.

2. If you have a vision of what your wedding will be like, DO IT. Make it exactly what you want! Don't listen to anyone's input but your own.

1. Yes you are extremely excited, but don't go telling ppl the first week that they will be invited (especially if you have a year or longer engagement). Trust me, things will change and you will regret it. Same goes for asking the bridal party.

2. Don't let anyone tell you what they think you should do..... bc everyone will have their ideas and opinions!

3. Spend the most money on the things that will last AFTER the wedding- i.e. photos and video! Nobody will remember what kind of limo you had, invites will end up in the trash, and most people will be too drunk to even notice what type of fancy cake you upgraded to.

Things I wish someone had said to me!

1. take pictures when you get engaged. that day. we were so happy calling everyone that we never did and I regret it.

2. Take a full week (at least) to just be engaged and enjoy it.

3. DO NOT ask your bridal party in the first month.

4. Work on the guest list first. Everything, from how many centerpieces you need, to which venues you should look at, will really depend on that number.

5. Try just dress shopping with your mom. I found my dress on a dress-spree with my mom and its a memory that I wouldn't give up for anything.

I agree 110% with ALL of these!!! Especially #1!

I wish I saw this 6 months ago! I just would like to add on to what was already said with 'If you have a Groomzilla.. try to appreciate it.' Granted, you might have arguments and both be so stubborn that he makes you want to cry... but then when he says the opposite.. you'll be sad. Just try to find a happy medium if he wants to be involved.

OH! And make sure you take some time to enjoy it! DO NOT PUT IT ON FACEBOOK! You will get a million congrats! but... you want to enjoy being engaged at least a week or two.
