Some tips for Girls getting engaged soon.... (Come on girls)

I figured us almost newlyweds and newly weds we could add some words of wisdom,

My ideal one to me would have been

DO NOT INVOLVE FAMILY

1)Do not accept monetary help from family they expect for you to do everything they want.

2)Be very choosy with who you tell your wedding plans too they may expect to be invited to your wedding.

3) Don't be disapointed when family/friends don't act as happy as how you are when you tell them you just got engaged or your wedding ideas just let it go, trust me it happened and is still happening to me...lol

Here is some advice for newly engaged girls: Think long and hard before you ask people to be in your bridal party....especially if your wedding is a long way away. Things change and the last thing you want is the wrong girl in your bridal party!

Things I wish someone had said to me!

1. take pictures when you get engaged. that day. we were so happy calling everyone that we never did and I regret it.

2. Take a full week (at least) to just be engaged and enjoy it.

3. DO NOT ask your bridal party in the first month.

4. Work on the guest list first. Everything, from how many centerpieces you need, to which venues you should look at, will really depend on that number.

5. Try just dress shopping with your mom. I found my dress on a dress-spree with my mom and its a memory that I wouldn't give up for anything.

hmmm .. dont take anyone's money... and buy things and then tell poeple so you cant return it and whats done is done!

The best advice I can give you is make sure you tell your bf to NOT tell your friends or big mouthed family members that he is going to propose or how he plans on proposing! I had a friend tell me in detail the day before

Because after all, men are spiteful little monkeys...agreed.

Do the little detail oriented girly things FIRST, on your own time...if your FH is the type to put things off, if you wait until your major vendors are booked first, you'll lose out on a lot of choices. Figure out your hair, makeup, attire, and all those things while FH is busy absorbing what he just did...

Don't let WE TV and LIW brainwash you...be your own person. If you want a simple dress, buy a simple dress...don't think you have to have a ballgown in order to be a bride.

You are going to fight, and you're going to fight a lot...and when that happens, just make sure you stop and remember why you're doing this in the first place.

My advice is to enjoy your engagement...take it all in...it only happens once.

My advice is to take your time... if you can't afford the wedding of your dreams in one year, take two. Yes, your family will say 'two years? Why are you waiting that long?' but those two years will fly by!

Hmmm...Newly Engaged Girls..
1. Take your time looking for vendors. Shop around. There are a lot of vendors that are reasonable and great
2. Have as much fun as possible while planning. Don't stress. It's your day!

complete opposite of this - its OKAY if you are one of those 'i HATE shopping around' type people b/c thats how i am and i didnt really 'shop around' too much for anything... and i dont regret anything! go with what your gut tells you!

dont make people but their life on hold for your wedding... IE-tell someone they cant get preggo b/c they are in your BP... NOT COOL!

watch the show bridezillas and dont be one

HAVE A REALLY SHORT ENGAGEMENT if you have a big italian family that will put in their 2 cents for EVERY detail!

ETA: splurge and get a Rolls Roice for you and FH/DH... a lot of ppl just go in the limos with the BP - but you wont get time alone with DH for the rest of the day (except pictures which doesnt really count) so you will want time alone to talk to each other and be alone!!

1) Just because a vendor gets rav reviews on LIWeddings or any other bridal website doesn't mean that he/she is the best suited for your needs. in other words, don't feel pressured to use Vendor X just because others are using him/her, and don't feel bad that you didn't or couldn't use Vendor X. There are A LOT of wedding vendors out there and I believe that using ones you get along with will make for fewer headaches before, during & after the wedding.

2) Don't forget the real reason for the wedding....because you and your fiance love each other and want to spend your lives together. So, don't sweat the small stuff...when you get stressed out because you can't find the right shade of pink paper for your invitations, stop and ask yourself if in the long run it will affect your love for each other.

There is alot of GREAT advice on here already I'll add:
THat it is amazing to be engaged =-) and to really enjoy that time with your FH !!

Also do NOT pick your bridal party too early and
do NOT be surprised at who expects to be in your BP or in a particular role.. that you would have never guessed..
I never thought this would apply to me.. but you really do find out who your true friends are

Do your research on your vendors.. don't be afraid to go with your first instict but def do your research in advance

Don't let anyone (family especially) talk you into a vendor or anything you don't want to do

Most of all enjoy this time

enjoy your engagement..and don't rush everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy every moment together!!! that and imo don't have a long engagement!!! lol I did and by the end I was sick of it all..
