Most bridal salons require at least 50% deposit to order a dress. Instead of using the money to place the order right away, most bridal salons will put the money in a bank account to acrue interests for a few months. Thats why some dresses come in later at certain bridal salons. And if they wait, sometimes forget to place the order.

I read this in a wedding planner FH bought for me. I don't know how true it is, but it makes sense.

Unfortunately they are allowed to do this-alot of companies not just wedding do this. Rental companies-like for properties do this. I agree, they charge you enough for things but are able to make more money off of you

Re: Something I learn about bridal salons...
another thing is when bridal salons work with another salon to place your order... a lot of places on Long Island will order any gown you want whether they are an authorized dealer or not. a lot of those places actually have a friend at another salon order the gown. Sometimes when this happens the other salon won't release the dress unless a larger order is taken... Like, if the shop you ordered from wants your gown, they can't just take YOURS they have to take and pay for 10 gowns at a time or whatever... (A lot of specialty shops do this sort of thing)
That can lead to your gown coming in late as well.

Re: Something I learn about bridal salons...
Some places will tell you anything to sell a dress. One woman was soooooo rude to me when I explained what I was looking for (strapless, not satin, not a lot of glitz, I like lace, didn't want a corset back, and didn't want it to look like a 2-piece with a separate top and bottom). She said there is no dress out there that fits my requirements and I should go home and look at some bridal mags before wasting peoples time.
Then I told her I had been dress shopping for a week and already found a few dresses that fit what i was looking for, but I just wanted to see what else was out there before making a final decision.
She did a complete 180, and asked if I had liked any of those dresses and then pressured me to order it with them, even though they didn't even carry that designer! She said if I ordered it in the next 2 hours they would be the other bridal shop's price by $50.
She also totally lied to me about how long the train could be extended and quoted me an insane amount for adding covered buttons on the back.
I walked out and did not order with them -- for many reasons obviously, but one being that they were not an authorized distributor for my dress designer!! I had know idea where they were planning to get the dress from!

i was so nervous that i was SO late ordering bm dresses, i ordered end of january. Most girls i saw on here took 5-6 months for bm dresses to come in and some even more. But i heard RK bridal gets them in real quick. I read rk bridals site and info about them. They said that a bm dress should come in within 2-3 months the most and many times sooner. They said the reason why they get it so quick and other bridal shops take alot longer is because bridal shops that take long dont order directly from the manufacturer so thats why it will take longer bc there is like a middle man or store i guess. My bm dresses were ordered last week of january or beginning of february and they are due to be delivered april 7th. I knew something had to be wrong for bm dresses to take 6 months , its one thing if its a wedding dress but come on not bm dresses
But business is business and thats how it is, if they did everything just to our benefit then they might not be in business. Sometimes we get annoyed by certain policies but the truth is if they did everything just for the customer without thinking of themselves then they might not stay in business. The point is to make a profit

I know it's so frustrating. We ordered from Lillette's which is supposed to be a pretty reputable place, but they stall your order to come in 2-3 months before your wedding. We ordered my dress in early Sept and BM dresses in early Oct. They wont come in for months. I didn't realize that wasn't standard practice....

Re: Something I learn about bridal salons...
Eh...it doesn't matter to me that they hold the orders so long as the dresses come in on time consistently. That said, obviously they don't, so the shops should stop holding the orders. They're trying to make money on the side at the expense of their core business! However, because weddings are supposed to be one-time events and there's little chance of repeat business, I'll bet shops feel they have the freedom to engage in such practices with little fear of hurting future sales. I'll bet the manufacturers aren't thrilled with shops violating the terms of their distribution agreements, either.

I ordered only my gown from Lillette's and they told me up front that it wouldn't come in till about 2 months before the wedding- they told me that they do this on purpose so that they don't have lots of brides gowns sitting in their warehouse and store. I understood and to me it made sense... less chance of getting someones gown mixed up and such.
I only had problems with my gown due to the manufacturer's issues not because of Lillette's...they actually rushed mine in so that instead of three weeks before my wedding I had a whole month and a half before to get alterations done. Imo Lillette's is a reputable place to order gowns and BM dresses from whereas others are just downright wrong in their practices.

Dude, that place sounds shaaaady! I heard about places lying about getting the dresses from manufacturers and having someone make it for them (total bootleg) while charging you an arm and a leg. Ugh!
