Most bridal salons require at least 50% deposit to order a dress. Instead of using the money to place the order right away, most bridal salons will put the money in a bank account to acrue interests for a few months. Thats why some dresses come in later at certain bridal salons. And if they wait, sometimes forget to place the order.

Some places will tell you anything to sell a dress. One woman was soooooo rude to me when I explained what I was looking for (strapless, not satin, not a lot of glitz, I like lace, didn't want a corset back, and didn't want it to look like a 2-piece with a separate top and bottom). She said there is no dress out there that fits my requirements and I should go home and look at some bridal mags before wasting peoples time.
Then I told her I had been dress shopping for a week and already found a few dresses that fit what i was looking for, but I just wanted to see what else was out there before making a final decision.
She did a complete 180, and asked if I had liked any of those dresses and then pressured me to order it with them, even though they didn't even carry that designer! She said if I ordered it in the next 2 hours they would be the other bridal shop's price by $50.
She also totally lied to me about how long the train could be extended and quoted me an insane amount for adding covered buttons on the back.
I walked out and did not order with them -- for many reasons obviously, but one being that they were not an authorized distributor for my dress designer!! I had know idea where they were planning to get the dress from!
Dude, that place sounds shaaaady! I heard about places lying about getting the dresses from manufacturers and having someone make it for them (total bootleg) while charging you an arm and a leg. Ugh!
yes! they also pressured me to order my BM dresses there, and they were so overpriced!!! our dresses supposedly retail for $190 according to houseofbrides, and they wanted $215 each! Lillette's wanted $176 and then took off an add'l 10% because I got my dress there.

I ordered only my gown from Lillette's and they told me up front that it wouldn't come in till about 2 months before the wedding- they told me that they do this on purpose so that they don't have lots of brides gowns sitting in their warehouse and store. I understood and to me it made sense... less chance of getting someones gown mixed up and such.
I only had problems with my gown due to the manufacturer's issues not because of Lillette's...they actually rushed mine in so that instead of three weeks before my wedding I had a whole month and a half before to get alterations done. Imo Lillette's is a reputable place to order gowns and BM dresses from whereas others are just downright wrong in their practices.
They also told me upfront it wouldnt come in until a few months before (and that they do this on purpose) -- it made sense to me, but I didn't realize it was not standard practice. I would have liked the BM dresses to come in early so we could see the color in person.
Didn't they have a sample swatch of the color ??? I didn't mean to offend but I understood why they did things the way they did and I understand where you're coming from though.
I would hate to have my gown sitting in a store or warehouse (or in my house) for an extended period of time- then the fabric might take on a bad odor or something.
My friend got her gown about 4 months prior to her wedding and when she finally took it home it had a bad odor to it from sitting in the shops warehouse for so long...I'm glad that in two weeks (5 days before the wedding) I'll be able to take my gown home.
