Songs for Dad/Daughter dance
My dad and I are really close but all those mushy songs just aren't us. Growing up we'd go for rides in his corvette and listen to Hewy Lewis and the Tavares. I would love to use More than a Woman by the Tavares because it reminds me of him but it is more of a 'love' song. I have searched list upon list and can't come up with anything.Ladies, I am counting on you for suggestions!!!
Thanks for all your help!

Re: Songs for Dad/Daughter dance
I am using Grown Men Don't Cry by Tim McGraw. Totally not for everyone or traditional. But it fits my Dad to a tee and I love the last verse.Another idea- My Girl by the Tempations

Re: Songs for Dad/Daughter dance
there is a song called 'daddy's little girl' by kippi brannon, the words are different than the typical daddy's little girl - the first verse is about a dad taking his daughter for a ride in his car to get ice cream or something like that, this is the song I am using.

Re: Songs for Dad/Daughter dance
My dance with my dad will be danced to 'You lite up my life' by Debbie Boone. I used to sing that song to my dad when I was little. I thought that he would appreicate that. So the song that you dance with your dad does not necessarily be a slow song or a song for a dad.

Re: Songs for Dad/Daughter dance
I didn't want mushy...my dad and I are anything but...so we used My Girl...I do like the tempo of Isn't she lovely...not mushy
what about the Sophie B Hawkins song that she wrote for her father...not too mushy...
As I lay me down
It felt like spring time on this February morning
In the courtyard birds were singing your praise
I'm still recalling things you said to make me feel alright
I carried them with me today
Now
As I lay me down to sleep
This I pray
That you will hold me dear
Though I'm far away
I'll whisper your name
Into the sky
And I will wake up happy
I wonder why I feel so high
Though I am not above the sorrow
Heavy hearted
Till you call my name
And it sounds like church bells
Or the whistle of a train
On a summer evening
I'll run to meet you
Barefoot barely breathing
As I lay me down to sleep
This I pray
That you will hold me dear
Though I'm far away
I'll whisper your name into the sky
And I will wake up happy
It's not too near for me
Like a flower I need the rain
Though it's not clear to me
Every season has its change
And I will see you
When the sun comes out again
she wrote it for him...b/c he died...I think...but you can use the words that you are leaving him for your married life...

Re: Songs for Dad/Daughter dance
I was also looking for a ver unmushy song for my dance with my dad. We used For My Dad by Nancy Sinatra... very upbeat and happy!
Here are the lyrics...
There's a man who always stood right by me
Tall and proud and good when times were bad
Too much heart is the only fault that I see
This song's not for you folks
It's for my dad
Always a partner, a playmate, and a teacher
Ready with a joke when times were sad
And in my tears sometimes he was a preacher
This song's not for you folks
It's for my dad
He always was a rock when I needed one
He gave me good advice when I needed some
I want you to know that when it's said and done
He's one of the best friends I ever ever had
This song's not for you folks
It's for my dad
He always was a rock when I needed one
He gave me good advice when I needed some
I want you to know that when it's said and done
He's one of the best friends I ever ever had
This song's not for you folks
It's for my dad
Of course I like you folks,
But I love my dad...

Re: Songs for Dad/Daughter dance
I didn't want mushy either. I am using 'How Sweet it is'...it can be more of a love for someone w/o being romantic. My dadis a real James Taylor fan. My band is going to slow it down a little..How sweet it is to be loved by you
How sweet it is to be loved by you
I needed the shelter of someone's arms and there you were
I needed someone to understand my ups and downs and there you were
With sweet love and devotion
Deeply touching my emotion
I want to stop and thank you baby
I just want to stop and thank you baby
How sweet it is to be loved by you
How sweet it is to be loved by you
I close my eyes at night
Wondering where would I be without you in my life
Everything I did was just a bore
Everywhere I went it seems I'd been there before
But you brighten up for me all of my days
With a love so sweet in so many ways
I want to stop and thank you baby
I just want to stop and thank you baby
How sweet it is to be loved by you
How sweet it is to be loved by you
You were better for me than I was for myself
For me, there's you and there ain't nobody else
I want to stop and thank you baby
I just want to stop and thank you baby
How sweet it is to be loved by you
How sweet it is to be loved by you

Re: Songs for Dad/Daughter dance
I loved my Father/Daughter song and everyone commented on it at my wedding. We danced to 'To Sir with Love' by Lulu. It has a great beat to it. Here are the lyricsThose schoolgirl days
Of telling tales and biting nails are gone
But in my mind
I know they will still live on and on
But how do you thank someone who
Has taken you from crayons to perfume?
It isn't easy, but I'll try
If you wanted the sky
I would write across the sky in letters
That would soar a thousand feet high
'To Sir, With Love'
The time has come
For closing books and long last looks must end
And as I leave
I know that I am leaving my best friend
A friend who taught me right from wrong
And weak from strong
That's a lot to learn,
But what can I give you in return?
If you wanted the moon
I would try to make a start
But I would rather you let me
Give my heart
'To Sir, With Love'
