Where do you buy them and are they bad for your diamond?

Re: sonic ring cleaner
I've never heard of it, but I use a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste to clean mine. Is it a machine or a cleanser?

Re: sonic ring cleaner
I bought one at the new walmart in Massapequa mall and the jewler said it was good for my ring. Just make sure you get the one for delicate jewlery.

Re: sonic ring cleaner
Mine is from Sharper Image. They also have them at Bed, bath, and beyond.
I asked my jeweler and he said is is exactly what he uses, except that his also uses steam. He told me to add warm water to my sonic cleaner. Yes they are safe, but only use them for the time as directed 2-5 minutes for mine.

Re: sonic ring cleaner
Thanks. Because I was using windex, but it was giving my diamond a blue film. Ammonia seems to make it look cloudy. And toothpaste I heard is too abrasive. So I don't know how else to clean it except professionally?

all my friends work for a jewerly store and they said the best way to do it @ home is just boil either reallllllly hot water and let it sit in that or boil mr. clean or something like that-but just a little of it.

Re: sonic ring cleaner
These posts are interesting to me because I've been engaged for 3 weeks now and have been wanting to clean my ring but wasn't sure how. A friend told me that her jeweler said that the sonic cleaners loosen the prongs over time and NOT to use them. I bought the liquid cleaner in Wal-Mart for $3.99 and seems to work nicely. I have a call into my aunt who is a jeweler and designed my setting, so I'll see what her recommendation is....stay tuned!

Re: sonic ring cleaner
great topic Im lazy.. i go back to the jeweler at the mall and have them clean it once a month..
But a home remedy would be MUCH easier.

Re: sonic ring cleaner
halloweenbride - you are so lucky to be getting married on Halloween. I wanted to so badly, but my parents and his mom were totally against it due to leaving the houses unattended and things like egg throwing and other stupid problems they came up with it!

Re: sonic ring cleaner
I let mine sit in a solution of wisk and water for an hour, then scrub with a toothbrush, then I rinse it with steaming hot water. To dry it I use my hair dryer- It comes out so shiny- like new!!!!

Re: sonic ring cleaner
its really good to take it to your jewler to get put in the ultrasonic cleaner, cause then the jeweler also will look for loose prongs at that time..

I'm so glad you posted this. I've been wanting to try something new. I have been using Mr. Clean and boiling water. It works greta but I'm sure it's not the safest!!!

Re: sonic ring cleaner
I've never heard of toothpaste being abrasive. Diamonds are the hardest substance in the world, so I'm doubtful that even an abrasive could do much harm. My mother has been using toothpaste on her diamonds forever and has never had a problem, and the toothbrush really gets into the tiny spaces in the setting. I guess it's just a matter of preference.
