Soo frustrated and disappointed! (vent-kinda long)

Soo frustrated and disappointed! (vent-kinda long)

So today we started looking at venues, and went to 4 places on LI, and have 3 tomorrow in Manhattan. I'm just feeling really frustrated and spent because these places on LI that look amazing on the website don't look like that in person. On top of that I really think the venues in Manhattan are ones I'm going to like but I felt so ganged up by FH and his mom. I love his mom, I'm lucky like that, but they both were talking about how they really want it on LI even though I have been saying my family (who are in Canada) would really love it and it would be easier in Manhattan. I just felt like there was no one on my side today because no one from my family is here and I'm doing all this with FH's mom. Even though we have a really good relationship I feel like she doesn't trust me to make good choices and also really wants it to be convenient for her and her guests which I get but ALL my family is coming from OOT so I want to consider them too. I just feel very emotionally drained and disappointed with our search today.

If anyone knows of venues on LI that are sort of loft-like and very sort of sparse in their decor PLEASE let me know. Thanks.

sorry you were so disappointed with the RHs today .... don't let your FMIL get to you ... remember that it's YOUR wedding - you don't need to have her approval on anything (just as long as FH agrees with you, of course).

Good luck RH shopping ... i'm sure you'll find the perfect one soon enough

Re: Soo frustrated and disappointed! (vent-kinda long)

I don't want to say anything bad about the places I looked today because the people were very nice (with the exception of one which I won't name) and they were pretty just not the look I am going for. I looked at the Royalton which is the only one that may stay on the list, and then WaterView which we liked the ballroom but we have some guests with mobility issues and the cocktail hour and restrooms are down a long flight of stairs so that won't work, and Woodlands which is just too sort of country club-y for me.

I am looking for a loft type look, wood floors, big windows and not a lot of carpet/color. Something that can do the ceremony, reception and cocktail hour all on one level or at least has an elevator between them

Thanks for the support guys, it makes me feel better. All day and evening I kept thinking 'i just want to go vent to the LIW girls and move past today'.

Did you check out the Old Field Club? It is gorgeous and has wood floors and a very open feel. You can look on their website. I love the look of that place although it may not be what your looking for.

Shopping for a RH can be very overwhelming. Maybe you can go next time just you and FH and leave FMIL at home. It's your wedding and should be your choice.

I would look at FOx Hollow. One of their rooms sounded alot like what you described.

i feel your pain. i had the same issues. i wanted an undecorated space too. I think the Old Field Club is a good recommendation - it didn't work for me bc i live in manhattan, we have a ton of out of town guests and that venue is really out there.

i ended up going with the De Seversky Center which is nothing like what you describe. i jsut thought the place was really beautiful, and i ended up changing the vision of what i wanted for my wedding. now i'm excited for the new style i'm going for.

where are you looking in manhattan? we looked at battery gardens and manhattan penthouse. let me know if you want info on those!

Don't stress! It can be so overwhelming looking at venues especially more than one at a time. You'll find it!

yeah this is one we are looking into the problem is i am trying to please everyone by having it in an open, bright space like my family likes but on LI like FILs want....confusing I know.

Anyone know anything about Carlyle on the Green?

manhattan penthouse is one of my faves - except that every single person i have spoken to says it will feel cramped with our 170 guest list. carltun i'm going to look at right now, thanks soooooooooo much!

oh boooo!!!

the carltun main ballroom and cocktail room are pretty raw spaces, there are some other rooms that guests walk through that are decorated but i would think that the ballroom would be your main concern, hope it works for you!!

I was just about to respond to this post and I see you just asked about Carlyle on the Green

You are in the EXACT position I was. I only wanted a 'city' wedding. We looked at Ciprianis, Bridgewaters, Steiner Studios, Battery Gardens, and The Lighthouse (I tried seeing Tribeca Rooftop but the BM there told me it wasnt worth it for them to do a kosher wedding and my wedding needs to be kosher)
My mom's family is also all from Toronto...so my mom's side is all coming from out of town. So I was in the exact position you were where a lot of my friends and FH's family and friends are all from LI, but I wanted my OOT guests to get that city feel.
Finally after going to all of these city places where I felt that they were charging soooo much money and not giving you any extras (plus the $50 a car parking spots), I decided to look on LI.
FH and I only looked at the Carltun, which was too small, and Carlyle on the Green and as soon as I walked into that ballroom I knew this is where I had to have my wedding. It's gorgeous and is on a golf course so it has a country-club field, but the ballroom is all open with hardwood floors (no carpet or poles) and has these amazing floor to ceiling windows. I decided that I would do the decor more modern to off-set the country-club feel.

FM if you have any questions...and don't get discouraged you will find it!
