I went for my first fitting Saturday. I got there, put on the slip, the 4 inch thick bra they sold me, and my dress. As we were zipping it up it was getting harder and harder to zip. Now since I bought the dress I've lost 7 lbs and 5 and 1/2 inches. So I am standing there as the lady is zipping me up and she says. 'Looks like you've gained weight'. I said 'No...actually I've lost, so I have no idea what is going on'. She says 'Well, the dress wouldn't lie...so you better start watching what you put in your mouth.' 'No beef, no chesse...' and the tirade began. Well needless to say I felt like ****! Then she has the gaul to say 'You look stressed out...I haven't seen you smile yet'. I'm sitting there thinking well you just told me I was fat! Why should I smile at you? Then she continued to talk to the other seamstress in Spanish, and I swear they were talking about me. I heard BOCA more than once. I wanted to cry. Afterwards, my MOH, my sister and my FMIL came to realize the problem was not in any weight gain but the EXTREMELY padded bra that they sold me. When I tried everything on the first time it was a sample dress that everyone and their mother had tried on 1000 times, so of course it fit. Then I tried it on about a month ago, but without that padded bra, just my own strapless and it fit perfect. I'm sorry I've rambled on so long, it just really bothers me, and I guess I am really sensitive about my weight. FH wants them to give me a formal apology. He keeps telling me he's going to go there. I tell him not to, because they have my dress and I don't want anything to happen to it. Am I over-reacting? If you read this far...BLESS YOU! I'm sorry. I just had to get it out....

I do NOT think you're overreacting! That is a horrible way for them to treat you, especially since it was the ridiculous bra THEY sold you!! You'd think they might realize that, I would think they would be used to making sure the undergarments were the same....do you need to wear that bra or could you wear the one you already have?
Don't worry, I'm sure you were and are beautiful, you just can't let them get to you! They are insensitive and obviously not smart enough to pay attention to a ridiculously padded bra!!

That is horrible! You poor girl! They're AS*H*les!
I think we are all a little sensitive about our weight, I can totally empathize.

I did read the whole thing, and I don't think you are over reacting AT ALL. Firstly, even if you had gained weight, it should never be said to you the way they said. Secondly, for good reason you felt good about yourself and had no worries of the dress fitting and she went out of her way to make you feel bad. It's just wrong. I agree I wouldn't let FH go there and say anything until I got the dress.
Do you have to wear that padded bra?

They're a$$holes! Don't let them get to you about your weight. I would've just told them that it's the undergarment and if they can exchange it for one with a thinner fabric.
I kind of agree with you on getting the formal apology because they do have your dress, but I would complain to the store manager/owner and tell them that they shoudln't talk to customers like this.

Thank you. I started thinking over the weekend that maybe I was being too sensitive about it. I don't know if I have to wear it. I'm guessing not. It just ***** that I can't return it. It cost $70.00.

Wow!!! That is just rude and very assuming of them to think that you have gained weight!

Thanks! If I do insist on an apology, should I do it while they still have my dress? I don't pick it up until Sept. 24th....

In no way were you being overly sensitive. It's their job to fit the dress to you not to make you feel like crap. Even if I gained weight, shut your mouth and make the dress fit, that' swhat I'm paying you for.
Ooohh sorry....it's a sensitive subject for me too. And I have a $60 bra that I can't return and HATE as well.

you're not overreacting, you basically paid this woman to insult you. I would have been pissed and maybe even would have taken her down, or at least ***** slapped her. I would write a letter to the owner and let her know how their seamstress treated you, that's not right. What store was this?

wow, well hearing that about davids doesnt surprise me at all. i wouldnt say anything about it right now because just in case they are spiteful, u dont want them 2 do anything to your dress, but if she makes those type of comments again, you have to say something to her then and there & put her in her place.
about the bra, my dress fit well w/o the bra, but once i put it on, it was harder to zip, & uncomfortable. luckily i bought it @ macys & can return it though...do u really need 2 wear the bra?

You are not overreacting at all! I am sorry you even had to go through something like that! How terrible people can be, really... I can't belive you didn't explode on them. I would never have been able to keep my mouth shut! What you should do is tell them it is the bra and have them take care of it for you.

I think I could get away with another bra, I just feel guilty becase FMIL bought everything, and I feel bad not being able to get her $$$ back....

I wish they would. However, everything is final sale there....

That is really obnoxious. I would probably complain about the woman and take the dress somewhere else for alterations. Dont take stuff like that personally, that woman should be embarrassed of herself.

I agree. Do not give them any more business. You are 100% able to take the dress and get it altered somewhere else. Maybe someone can recommend a seamstress for you in your area? You are on the south shore of western suffolk, right?
Re: your FMIL buying the bra - she will never know that you didn't wear that one, right? Buy another and don't tell her. If she will find out, just tell her the truth, or offer to give her back the money.
