FH is hearing impaired, reads lips perfectly, and no one in his family learned to use sign language. He prefers it, because he is the only in his family that is hearing impaired and feels that he needs to join their world not the other way around..
Anyway, I would like to surprise him by signing our wedding vows, even tho he says it's no big deal, (me not knowing sign language) I know how much it would really mean to him..
So my question is.. does anyone know where I can get inexpensive lessons? I have tried the learning DVD (from amazon.com) but I think I would do better with a real live teacher
I was thinking maybe Nassau Community College? Oh wait... do you have enough time for that?

This really is the sweetest thing!!!!!!!!!
Call St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn or even the Patchogue campus. I know the one in Brooklyn definitely has a class. I can give you a name...FM me if just calling them doesn't work.

That is so sweet. My mom works at Nassau Community College. I am going to ask her to call one of her friends at Students with Disabilities office and see if there is someone there that might be willing to work with you, if you are interested. That is just so touching!! Let me know if you want me to give her a call. It would be no problem!!

I don't have anyone or any resources to recommend but I also just wanted to say that this is probably one of THE SWEETEST things I've read on here in a long, long time.. FH is lucky to have you, and vice-versa I'm sure! I think the look on his face as you sign your vows to him will be priceless
Good luck and I'm sure some of the other girls suggestions will work out for you!

I'm just chiming in to say, that I too think this is one of the best ideas I've heard in a long time. That's really going to be a touching moment in your ceremony.

Thank you all so much for your support.. I know he will never forget it, and how much it will mean to him.
We have talked about my taking lessons a few times, but he felt it wouldn't be neccessary until we have children, so they would be tri-lingual, English, Spanish & Sign Language..
But I want to honor him on our day and I feel this is the best way to do it.
Thanks again for all your support! Jennifer

Re: Sorta NWR: Anyone know of...
I was wondering about this when I read your earlier posts about the xoxoxox's. If he signed, if the ceremony would be interpreted, etc.
It might be quickest if you could have private lessons & someone could just teach you the vows.
I used to know a little, I picked it up pretty quickly, so I think you shouldn't have a problem learning the vows. And then after you are maried you could take a class. Why wait untill you are pregnant?
If his family doesn't knwo any signlanguage, you two can have asecrete language to talk abot them. . .
