Spin Around Sound
Ok, I have booked Spin Around Sound for my wedding and I am starting to doubt my choice. Can anyone calm my nerves. Can you please comment (negative or positive) if you have seen them in person. For past SAS brides - What type of music did you play? Are they able to mix between songs well?

Spin Around Sound
I used them for my 9/2000 wedding. They did a good job. It was a daytime wedding so people didn't dance as much, but not because of the music. For peace of mind, why don't you ask him for more references and call them. I can't lie, I did have a problem with him a week before the wedding, and we ended up bringing a lot of our own music, some ethnic things he didn't have and didn't want to buy. What bothered me was that he said it wasn't worth it for him to buy a few cd's we'd requested (including our wedding song). I felt insulted that he didn't thing spending 50 buck on cd's was worth it, when I was paying a pretty penny, but in the end, we brough our own cd's and it was fine. He also went out and bough some of the music we'd requested. It all worked out fine. And the music was good.

Spin Around Sound - my feedback.. Long
I used them for my Oct 2000 wedding. I know that the overwhelming majority on this site seems to love them, so i usually dont pipe in and give my 2 cents, but since you are asking for positive or negative, (and since kgb also had a problem, I dont feel like i'm the only one).. here are my notes: A few things that 'stand out' in my mind (going back 15 months ago..) I did post feedback right after my wedding, but I dont think you can search back that far.) 1) They had NO CLUE what the 'pass the napkin' thing was, to give away the centerpiece. I thought he was joking when he had a questioned look on his face, but I had to explain it to him !!! (not Tom, one of his DJ's). 2) When I was about to sign, Tom said he would go to any length to get any music I wanted, stating he has gone to little Italy to purchase Italian cd's for brides.. My response, (of course) 'WOW HOW NICE!!!' Then at a later date, after I had signed of course, when I mentioned some songs I couldnt find in my collection at home, he said, 'oh no problem, we will go, you will just have to give me the money for the cd's'.. I was floored when he said that... At one point, they had burned some songs onto a cd for me, he had said to me 'you know anthony and I were up to 3am doing this for you' in a really condescending tone. 3) They FORGOT FORGOT FORGOT to play our second wedding song. It dawned on me later on, that we hadnt danced to our 'Phantom' song (All I ask of YOU), so i went and reminded them, they were like 'huh ??' so i had to sift through MY PERSONALLY OWNED CD's (that I gave them for the nite), (yes, in my wedding gown, at my own wedding) and point to what number on what cd). I basically felt like I was coaching them, and that all the hype over them was WAYYYYYYY OVERSTATEDDDDD. This is all that stands out, and Toms attitude in general (at certain times) was kind of um...whats the right word, cocky, obnoxious ? Overall, it was nothing that ruined my wedding or made it any less special for me. BUt its things like this that make me look back and say ' What makes a good DJ ?? I thought this was a 'good DJ ! ' As far as what music they play, you can pretty much list all the songs you want and dont want, so your wedding will be as 'crazy' or as 'calm' as you want it to be... Hope that helped. Good luck, Enjoy your day, and remember 'Dont sweat the small stuff !!' :) Anna

My thoughts and advice (Long)
I used to think I was just misreading some situations, but in some of the recent posts regarding Spin Around Sound, I`ve come to realize I guess maybe I wasn`t. Spin Around Sound was one of the DJs we looked into because of the high praise on this site. While I didn`t really want to think much of it at the time, I do recall a couple of awkward phone conversations. I forget exact specifics, but just things that didn`t sit well with me. One involved my phone call and Tom ending up missing his train, though he did say something like it was pretty much his own fault since he was already running late. This is not to say they wouldn`t have done a good job at our wedding, but I guess it just makes me feel better knowing I trusted my gut reactions and chose my DJ based on who made me most comfortable. When we left our appointment with Tom, I too felt he was a little too cocky, something like it didn`t phase him if he got our business or not. I guess maybe that`s because they`re such a popular choice, at least from all that I`ve seen on this board for the months upon months I`ve been coming here, so there certainly has to be a reason for it. But I just couldn`t sign based on that. I felt much better signing with Eddie of Parameters, who we just seemed to click with right from the start. Eddie was eager and enthusiastic about our wedding, and always took the time to discuss any of our questions or concerns, and stayed in close contact with us as our day approached. That night, he was very attentive, and, like the impression I got in our first meeting, detail oriented .. right down to getting the last names right for the introductions. Trust you judgement. I know what it`s like to second guess choices made, but you can`t do that. I`m sure you didn`t take signing Spin Around Sound lightly, which means you made what you believed to be a wise choice. It`s easy to second guess yourself now, and drive yourself nuts, but you shouldn`t. Think back to the reasons why you chose them. If you start second guessing all your choices, your planning will be nothing but torture for you, and you will not be able to enjoy it. And yes, you should enjoy your planning. Just remember, everyone has their own tastes, which is why we all have such different weddings, and which is why we all find different vendors meeting those tastes. My advice for anyone with regard to DJs would be to create a very detailed list for them. For each Must Play song, include the artist`s name(s). Don`t forget, there can be many different versions to a song, and no matter how obvious it might seem to you that one group does it, the DJ may be thinking equally about some other group`s version, or may know of versions that exist that you don`t. Your DJ may even know of a version that may be better suited to your style affair than the one listed. Be open to their suggestions, and don`t be afraid to ask for their input. Make sure whoever is doing the MCing for you has a detailed list of who`s who in the party for introductions, including pronunciation. I`ve been to several weddings over the past few months where the newlyweds names were said wrong, and just recently, the bride`s parents were introduced as the groom`s parents (this was not corrected by the MC, and the groom`s parents were then introduced as the groom`s parents). If you have any special requests, like games, dances, dedications .. make sure to go over all aspects so there is no confusion and it is executed to your specifications, including at what point in the night you might like these things done. Most importantly, keep the lines of communication open with your DJ. Make sure to talk to them when you have questions or concerns, and let them put your mind at ease.

Spin Around Sound - Long
Thanks for your honest comments. As Kel said I am doubting almost all my vendors. My wedding is 22 days away and I am starting to freak out. I will also mention that I am horrible at making decisions so that doesn't help. I am so afraid of things going wrong that I am doubting a lot of things. With that said, my concern with Spin Around Sound is not necessarily brought on by anything Tom has done. The music portion is sooo important to the wedding. I just haven't got the warm fuzzies from them as I have with some other vendors. I can deal with the BS of his arrogants what I am really concerned with is how they actually DJ. Do they play music well? Do they mix from one song to another well? I have called a few other DJs that are available on my very short notice. Therefore if I hear negative things about their actual music playing I am willing to change. If I hear positive things then I won't. Therefore, don't feel bad about saying anything negative. I would rather know now then after the reception. Thanks for letting me vent. My fiance, family and friends think I am completely nuts.

We used Spin Around Sound and they were great!
I`ve posted before on them so I won`t go into details again in this post but we were very very happy. If anyone does want more info, I will gladly post some more info upon request. Good luck to all.

Spin Around Sound - Long - Karen
Karen, I wouldnt change at this point if I were you. (especially if you have to lose the deposit). They played the music fine. Dont stress. I agree that they arent 'warm and fuzzy' (good choice of words!) but not everyone is in this world. (unfortunately) Dont let that get to you, you will have a great wedding day ! Think of it as strictly business, no small talk..(if us gals can ever do the 'no small talk'.!) If they have all your music selections, you should be ok. and feel free to ask them as many questions as you like or confirm anything youre not sure about. Enjoy the next 3 weeks ! Go get your nails done :) anna

My experience so far...
..has been great - we met with him twice at his house on LI, and we chit chatted for about an hour - half of it wasn`t even about DJ`s or weddings! Granted, he likes to talk, but I don`t think that will affect the music he`ll play! We already told him we didn`t want a lot of MCing, and he seemed fine with that. I also remember hearing from other brides on this board that he did exactly what they requested - so, I really wouldn`t worry too much about it. I think it`s impossible to find any kind of vendor that EVERYONE is happy with, and doesn`t have any negative comments.

I think I am freaking out. I don't want to worry anyone else who has booked them. Tom did make a special videotape for my Fiance so we could see other types of songs. I will let everyone know how it goes after the big day. Thanks for all the comments.Welcome New Vendors
