Re: Spin off from Slim down. Do you think you have the?
theresa...you are right...the person has to want to get help...but would you leave them in the gutter? a lot of times people DO want help...but they cannot come forth themselves...they need people to ask them...so I guess before judging...you should try to help the person...
just think of what all the money spent on drugs (and we can throw alcohol and cigerettes into this as well)...what could you buy today...so many people struggling for a house...makes you think...

Re: Spin off from Slim down. Do you think you have the?
far be it for me to pass judgement on anyone that is a 'partier'. In my college days, I was NOT an angel!! But now that Im 'old' I guess I have a different outlook on life.I do not do drugs for fear of losing my job, my husband or my life. I guess there are people that can function in life doing all sorts of things....but for me, if I stay up past 11pm, Im dead the next day!!!

Re: Spin off from Slim down. Do you think you have the?
Wanting to get help for a friend or family member who is being self destructive - or harmful to other people - is NOT the same as passing judgement on someone.Comparing methamphetamine to 'whacky weed' is just silly, imo. See, that's passing judgement!

Re: Spin off from Slim down. Do you think you have the?
I dont know if its considered passing judgement or not but a friend of mine decided to get into coke and thats REALLY not my scene... I stopped being friends with her, well it was that and she asked to borrow $$ for something and lied to be about why she needed it and bought more coke... but she cleaned up her act and now we are friends again. We arent as close as we used to be of course because she lost my trust

Re: Spin off from Slim down. Do you think you have the?
'so I guess before judging...you should try to help the person'Just to prove my point - Dont you have to pass judgement on someone before offering to help? Obviously, you have already made the judgement that they NEED help.
I think its much the same with cigarette smoking. Everyone knows it bad for you and it costs a lot and you could quite possibly die from it...but people have a right to live their lives as they want it. Nothing wrong with encouraging someone to quit, but they have to decide for the themselves that they really want to put the effort it.
Just my personal 'judgement' but I would much prefer a friend to smoke an occassional joint in their off hours than smoke a pack of Malboros a day!

Re: Spin off from Slim down. Do you think you have the?
I guess I consider 'passing judgement' a fleeting thing. You saw, you judged, you walked away. Noticing that someone is missing work, spending more money than they have, neglecting their children - and wanting to help them, is not the same in my book. I guess it's semantics. I just would never 'pass judgement' on my friends and then go out to dinner with them. I don't talk behind the backs of my friends. But if I see someone who needs help (I guess here's the catch-22 - who am I to say they need help??), I'd offer my help...without judgment and making them feel like sh*t.

I don't know on this one. I don't have any friends that do drugs or used to do drugs.I guess thats my judgement right there. They would not be my friend.

Re: Spin off from Slim down. Do you think you have the?
Stef - I have to say that your posts were an eye opener for me and I have this to say....My first post was that while I personally DON'T do drugs, I don't pass judgement on those who do....
BUT
I guess I do.....
When I really thought about it and was reading all your replies, I realized that I don't associate with the friends of mine that are big partiers as much anymore.....thus being my judgement.
I would be less likely become friends with someone if I knew off the bat that they used drugs....(just not my thing)
I guess by being a preference, it's also a judgement.
(did that make sense?)

Re: Spin off from Slim down. Do you think you have the?
This is a touchy subject.....but I agree with the person who said recreational use can lead to addiction.....as a friend, I would not pass judgement on ANYONE but I would talk to them about it and see if they had any interest in quitting. There is nothing you can do, they have to WANT TO STOP. IMO.....it doesn't lead to anything positive or productive.

Re: Spin off from Slim down. Do you think you have the?
Rachel, I agree with you 100%
T- If you wanna take me out before my wedding you better get crackin cuz my wedding is in 22 days
And I will not do anything that has a one letter name.
I really have to say this about my self - I AM JUDGMENTAL. I am a recovering obnoxious beyotch and while I have the explosive temper and rude comments under control, I just can't shake my tendency to judge. It is my one flaw
And there are worse flaws to have. So, I like Sonicstef's response that everyone is judgmental becuase it makes me feel NORMAL

Re: Spin off from Slim down. Do you think you have the?
I don't pass judgement because from personal experience it is very easy to become addicted to drugs-especially painkillers. I however, will never touch one again in my life.Welcome New Vendors
