Ok- so I am getting some feedback on this in a few posts- but I figured I'd put this up so that people could anonymously share their opinions if they are negative and there will be no drama....
What are your feelings on registering for your HM? I dont want to do something that my guests will find tacky. I know it will just be for our shower as that is when you get registry gifts... but is it too much like asking people for $$?
So, Vote here... and if you ARE registering for it- where are you registering!

How does this exactly work? I have heard this only on here. How do you register for your HM? Someone else pays for it????

FH's cousin did this last year in addition to a traditional registry...basically you could pay for part of their airfare, limo transportation to and from airport, and things to do on the honeymoon,etc.... For their gift, we did like $100 for airfare and then cool things like a mani/pedi for her and a hot shave for him and then another option was a night at the bar...basically you get them gift certificates for things to do on hm. It was a cool idea I thought. I have to find the website that they did it through.

You said in another post that you have most of the things that most people register for. In that case, I don't see anything wrong with registering for your honeymoon. I wish they had a registry for a mortgage!!!

I don't think HM registries are tacky AT ALL.... but just make sure you use a reputable website that won't take a big percentage of what people contribute....

YOU ARE.... you just don't know it.... it's in those envelopes that people hand you during the reception... HAHA
You can register on a few websites-- or if yo ubook with Liberty Travel they offer it too. I dont think I'll itemize the list-- just register for the HM in general-- I dont want people to see what we're paying for what!!!

I wouldnt do it. I think if people give you cash then youre free to spend it on whatever you like, but the thought of asking people to contribute to a trip for me makes me very uncomfortable. Let them just buy me toasters instead.

Yes, that's pretty much it in a nutshell. There are websites and travel agencies that you can register with so instead of getting gifts people can pay whatever they'd give you as a gift to your honeymoon.

I have a sandals HM registry i really liked the idea!! its the smae as a regular eegistry and if people dont wanna buy from it...they dont have to!

i wouldnt or didnt do it but thats because im not having a shower but i dont think its tacky from a guest's point of view, i would want to get you something you needed or wanted so it wouldnt matter to me where the money went; as long as it was something you liked

i dont think its tacky at all - people can either give you cash or check at the wedding, which can't really help in planning the HM or they can contribute to it before hand... money is money-- they can either buy you a cuisinart coffee maker or help you have an amazing honeymoon!!
i dont think i would ask for like gifts of over $200 each, but i i would say $100 (maybe $50 depending on each situation) would be average-- plus they can always buy you 2 gifts of whatever amount you choose at their discretion

See with Liberty- you dont do an itemized registry-- it's just a generalization. So ppl can give whatever they want. Plus they won't see how much we're spending on our HM- which I like.
I figured... if I'm going to tell someone what to buy me from Fortunoffs.... then what's the difference?
Plus I dont think anyone will get it for us for teh wedding0 just the HM...I could TOTALLY see my dad surprising us with a few huge chunk of change at the shower if we reg for our HM-- LOL!

I agree that the older generation probably wouldn't go for this idea, but I think the younger people would probably be very happy to contribute towards the honeymoon. I would definitely have no problem giving a hm contribution as a gift, although I don't think I'd register for it myself.
