Spin-Off to Debates: Is anyone voting differently than their FH/DH?

Im just curious if anyone is voting opposite from DH and if so does it annoy either of you?

No, we are both voting the same. I am sure if I was to vote differently DH would get annoyed but that is not the reason I will be voting for the same candidate.

yup , and it annoys the cr*p out of me . He is a fiscal republican , so he only cares about HIS taxes , and not the greater good of society . We don't talk about politics too much because half of what he says is propaganda BS and I just end up getting frustrated.

Yeah were voting the same too. Something tells me this wont get a lot of answers. While I dont think someone will vote for someone based on what their SO thinks, I do think it does play a big part.

we usually disagree about politics, not everything but most issues. We also disagree on candidates often. However, seems like this time we might be voting the same which is a miracle

We are voting for the same candidate.

DH is not political

He actually has no idea about anything going on in the country, he had no clue about the stockmarket doing terrible or the vote for the bailout.

I guess ignorance is bliss, hes in his own world

HAHA! I loooove that you speak up! It would annoy the hell out of me too!! I feel like a lot of people are only thinking about their taxes this election and it really bothers me because there are so many other factors that should play into it. DH annoyed me the other day when he said, 'Who knows, if we were rich, wed probably vote for McCain' I honestly dont know what I would do if that were the case but I feel like I would still want to vote for what a candidate will do for our whole country and not just for ME. You know what I mean?

BTW you looked absolutely gorgeous!! Stunning bride!

Last election, yes. This election, no.

I care a lot more about politics than DH, and it drove me nuts when he voted for Bush in 2004. Election day was actually our first big fight, because I was really upset that we must have very different values, I wondered if we were truly compatible, etc.

This time around, DH is voting for the same candidate as me and we are aligned on pretty much everything. It is much much much more enjoyable for both of us (instead of arguing about politics all the time). However, we had a long 'discussion' with his parents over dinner 2 weeks ago and I basically disagree with everything they said. I tried to stay out of it, but it was nice to hear the things I believed coming out of DH's mouth.

It's especially frustrating because we live OOT right now in a major swing state, so these votes really matter! It's interesting to hear the other side, but sometimes the reasons (on both sides) are so ignorant it makes you want to bang your head against the wall.

we have argued alot about politics, it can be annoying at times. But he is also the type to think he is right and doesn't understand why i think differently even when i explained to him my view about one issue and why i felt the way i did, which was actually leaning alot to why he felt the way he did, he doesnt listen although i made a great point

just an example of our opposing views: i am pro-choice and against the death penalty. He is pro-life and for the death penalty. When i explained why i was pro-choice and what happens in a country when it does become illegal i thought he'd listen a little but nope. BUT i respect his views regardless and respect that he feels so strongly about pro-life, i'd rather him have a strong opinion than not having one at all

Its funny how you say you wondered if you were compatible. Some people feel the way people vote is a reflection on their moral values. And Im not gonna lie, I have judged people based on their political views, I TRY not to be that kind of person but I cant help it!

well actually FH doesn't vote and I HATE that. I feel his opinion just as everyone else's matters.

But then again he isn't one of those people who doesn't vote and then complains and b*tches about the way the country is being ran

He told me the President is the Commander in Chief= his BOSS literally since he is in the military so he has to listen to him no matter what or who he is. So he never feels strongly about one or the other. He is a very stubborn man haha

you'll be surprise how many people vote for someone just because their significant other does. It frustrates me

last time (and normally) we are in disagreement over this stuff...and we joke about it.

this time i think we're both supporting the same candidate

DH hopped on the Obama train long before I did, which made the primary season a little, uh, tense...
We're on the same page now.
He actually started out as self professed pro-life and pro-death penalty (which, imo means you are not pro-life), but I pointed out that what had offended him previously was the assumption that liberal society wanted poor women to have abortions. In fact, liberals want to ensure that they can choose not to have one.
He gets it. Thank god. It would be driving me crazy otherwise.

Thank you Lia for the compliment , I loved everything about my wedding, especially my hair

Sadly , DH is in that tax bracket where he feels he ( now we ) will be hit hard and can only focus on that . It is hard because I understand his point, but sometimes people have to look at the whole picture and not be so self absorbed. He keeps saying just wait and see what happends if Obama wins , how our lifestyle will change. I cannot for the life of me vote for mccain , so i would rather shop less and save $ if Obama wins and really support what I beleive in . Maybe its the social worker in me that wants to help the country change for the better and i can't see voting just based on my check book.

Same here. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who dont care and dont do a LICK of research so theyll just go with whoever their SO is voting for and thats what ruins the elections I think. I wish people were more involved.

it depends. See dh and i disagree with alot of things in politics, but then again when it comes to religion we feel the exact same way. Also alot of situations that i hear about, i ask him and see how he would react or handle it and its usually the same as me, which i guess is weird but im not just talking about politics. We're also alot alike in many ways, i guess its since we're born 10 days apart. So yeah i guess its more like SOME issues we disagree on but these issues are the ones we talk about most often so i see the differences but then again theres alot we do agree on.

ALso depends on religious background many times and culture. I think that has alot to do with why he is pro-life. My parents came from a country where abortion used to be illegal and i know what happens when a country makes abortion illegal, it doesn't stop people from getting one, they just find other ways to do it. There were abortion pills on the black market that actually hurt many women, and ended up badly. Theres back alley clinics with people performing procedures that might not even be qualified to do so and women have died this way or had some damage done. Women found their own methods of doing so. There was also a movie that came out called four walls i think, i think demi moore was in it but not sure. ANd it went through 4 different periods of time in the US, also when it wasnt legal and about the same things that happened.

Same here. Thats why I say WHO KNOWS what I would do if I had money, ya know?? I would hope that I know who I am and would vote for who will better the country as a WHOLE but you never know.
