Spin-Off to Debates: Is anyone voting differently than their FH/DH?

Original post by Butterfly123

Im just curious if anyone is voting opposite from DH and if so does it annoy either of you?

We are voting the same..it would annoy me tremendously to be honest. I am very passionate about politics..my dad is an Attorney and both him and my mom were always very politcally active growing up. FH likes to play with me that he is voting for the other guy...but he isnt. He always makes sure that he is doing his own research though so that he is votng for who he wants and not who I tell him to (hahhaha)

I want to add my uncle is a conservative republican and my aunt is a democrat and they have been VERY happily married for 30+years so it can work if you arent but for me it would drive me nutssssssssssss

yup , and it annoys the cr*p out of me . He is a fiscal republican , so he only cares about HIS taxes , and not the greater good of society . We don't talk about politics too much because half of what he says is propaganda BS and I just end up getting frustrated.

HAHA! I loooove that you speak up! It would annoy the hell out of me too!! I feel like a lot of people are only thinking about their taxes this election and it really bothers me because there are so many other factors that should play into it. DH annoyed me the other day when he said, 'Who knows, if we were rich, wed probably vote for McCain' I honestly dont know what I would do if that were the case but I feel like I would still want to vote for what a candidate will do for our whole country and not just for ME. You know what I mean?

BTW you looked absolutely gorgeous!! Stunning bride!

Thank you Lia for the compliment , I loved everything about my wedding, especially my hair

Sadly , DH is in that tax bracket where he feels he ( now we ) will be hit hard and can only focus on that . It is hard because I understand his point, but sometimes people have to look at the whole picture and not be so self absorbed. He keeps saying just wait and see what happends if Obama wins , how our lifestyle will change. I cannot for the life of me vote for mccain , so i would rather shop less and save $ if Obama wins and really support what I beleive in . Maybe its the social worker in me that wants to help the country change for the better and i can't see voting just based on my check book.

Same here. Thats why I say WHO KNOWS what I would do if I had money, ya know?? I would hope that I know who I am and would vote for who will better the country as a WHOLE but you never know.

this is true. I have never been in that situation until this election, but I have such strong feelings about another republican president who is older then dirt ruining this country even more IMO , so you know who I am voting for.

Re: Spin-Off to Debates: Is anyone voting differently than their FH/DH?

i think i am the only person who isnt bothered with somebody feeling differently than me

i guess bc i dont like for someone to push their ideas on me, i like to be my own person and i would want to treat someone the same way, if i dont want it being done to me, i cant do it to someone else. ALso i wouldnt want someone to just agree me just because, i respect somebody alot more who disagrees with me than somebody who doesnt have an opinion at all or will just go with whatever i say. Qualities i look for in a person is somebody who is passionate, who can actually sit there and debate with me their side, yes we might be on different sides but hey you can always learn things from someone else and see things from someone elses point of view, i like for them to make up their own mind on issues. I wouldn't change my views for somebody else and i would hate it if somebody changed their views JUST bc of me.

I also see it as everyone is different, how in the world can we all think alike. WE are different nationalities, different religions, different upbringings, we choose different paths in life so its only normal. I actually LOVE being around people who come from a different background, had a different life, different religions and talking to them to hear their point of views, sometimes what we think is right can be wrong and sometimes how we view things might be different than what we were lead to believe.

Maybe its my aquarius nature and i dont like to judge people for who they are, but then again dh is also aquarius so dont know what happened to him hahaha

ETA: i think the world would be a boring place if we all felt the same way. Its all the different views for generations that got us to where we are. There were those who had radical thoughts and everyone was against them at that time, thank god that didnt stop them. I wouldnt like it if everybody around me all felt the same way and did everything the same

He absolutely HATES politics and thinks that candidates just say what they have to in order to be voted into office. I understand where he is coming from, and on some level, I agree, however, i know that if I don't vote, I have no right to complain... It's his choice and i won't push him on the matter.

Okay! Just curious, I was wondering if it was because a lot of people feel their vote doesnt count. Honestly, sometimes I feel that way too. Like 'why bother' So I get it completely.

dh feels this way and i can see why he does. But I also told him that if EVERYBODY who didnt vote bc they thought their vote didnt count, it can actually make a huge difference. I hope that explained what i was trying to say

Yup. And there are a lot of people who feel this way. I wonder what the statistics are for people who dont vote because of that.

i dont mind either, being pretty conservative in NY MOST people around me, including my family, think I am nuts.

BUT DH does not vote and it drives me nuts. We are opposite in so many things. I have always voted and he never has. Morally, we are almost opposite and religion? i attend church every sunday and pray every day and he isnt even sure he believes in God. . .

but, we respect each other and we can joke around about our differences so its okay. . . i always tell him he is going to he!! and calls me grandma.

DH and I are different when it comes to religion too. And its crazy because he actually went to Catholic school and I didnt. He doesnt believe in anything and I know its because of what has happened in his life. I do have my beliefs and sometimes he says things about religion that annoy me. I dont judge him though for his beliefs nor do I judge anyone else for their religious beliefs. I need to be the same about politics!

awww you're not nuts, and I am sure many people feel the same way as you do.

Infact, there have been some topics where we disagreed but honestly tilde i always respected you for how strongly you felt. I don't think youre wrong at all for feeling the way you do, i just feel differently but doesnt make me right and you wrong, we just feel different and thats all. You believe in it and stand strongly behind your views and how you choose to live your life is your own decision. I might have some problems with organized religion i will admit that, but i would never discourage anyone from being very religious and attending church every sunday or any chance they were able to, or even just tell you that you're wrong for doing so. I admire that you do believe so strongly in your heart and follow through with it.

I was talking to a friend of mine last night, and mentioned that NY usually goes blue, so it's unlikely that McCain would win here no matter how well he was doing nationally.
'Really?' she said.
'Yeah....but vote anyway!'
For a split second, I was terrified that my stating the logistics was creating voter apathy against my own candidate. I'll be mortified if apathy reduces turnout this time around. For either side, really.

denise i am just like you- I HATE when peolpe try to push their views or feelings on me. I actually used to argue with my parents alot when I was younger just to prove to them there were different sides to things.

I would never be mad if FH decided to vote differently than I was...would it cause some arguements-possibly because FH and I are very stubborn people and also like to say what we have to say haha. but I would never care.

yeah im sure you can see why he feels the way he does so its hard to tell him he shouldn't feel that way, he only knows to go by what hes experiene in his own life.

Religion can be a hard one, well its whats caused our world the most problems. Wars, genocide, hatred are usually bc of religious differences. Its sad too bc it shows what happens when people dont agree but cant respect someone else for their religious views, its whats screwed up our world

and theres nothing wrong with it. Sometimes when you disagree you actually talk about politics more and theres nothing wrong with actually having intelligent conversations, its better than talking about things that in the grand scheme of things dont really matter.

My family was the same way, i think thats why i hate it so much too. We would discuss politics and religion and they would jump down my throat if i felt differently. But i used to actually listen to their side and many times they made valid points and made me see things differently, they brought up things i didnt think of and i was glad it was pointed out and learned something new.

omg are our DH's the same man haha

seriously Chris hates to talk about religion and politics. He is Catholic but doesnt attend Church and not sure if he believes in God. A lot of it has to do with his time in the Marines and what he has seen bec we have had long convos about his point of view of 'where god was when his friend died or when my mom had to bury her son etc etc' but I feel differently than him.

we try to prove each other wrong for fun like to see if the other person would ever crack and actually believe it hahaBut we can definitely joke and i love him and would never try to influence him to vote/pray to god etc if he doesnt want to
