i think i am the only person who isnt bothered with somebody feeling differently than me

i dont mind either, being pretty conservative in NY MOST people around me, including my family, think I am nuts.

BUT DH does not vote and it drives me nuts. We are opposite in so many things. I have always voted and he never has. Morally, we are almost opposite and religion? i attend church every sunday and pray every day and he isnt even sure he believes in God. . .

but, we respect each other and we can joke around about our differences so its okay. . . i always tell him he is going to he!! and calls me grandma.

awww you're not nuts, and I am sure many people feel the same way as you do.

Infact, there have been some topics where we disagreed but honestly tilde i always respected you for how strongly you felt. I don't think youre wrong at all for feeling the way you do, i just feel differently but doesnt make me right and you wrong, we just feel different and thats all. You believe in it and stand strongly behind your views and how you choose to live your life is your own decision. I might have some problems with organized religion i will admit that, but i would never discourage anyone from being very religious and attending church every sunday or any chance they were able to, or even just tell you that you're wrong for doing so. I admire that you do believe so strongly in your heart and follow through with it.

thanks denise

One thing that we are VERY clear on though is that when we have children, all joking around stops about religion. He doesnt have to come to mass with us, but I will attend every Sunday with our kids. He can't joke around about 'kid touchers' or anything else like that. . .I want our kids to have a very strong religious background and then when they are older I hope they will return to it like I did. I did not go to church for many years and returned when i got engaged and it has changed my life ( cheeseball LOL )

He always swore he wouldnt even come to church on Christmas with me but I think I am cracking him. Don't tell anyone. BUT. he actually came with me on Sunday to get Brutus blessed at church for the Feast of St Francis I was shocked!

I want to bring my children to church. Its very hypocritical of me, and DH always says he does not want to force religion on our children and I agree with him but church was a very positive experience for me and I LOOOOOVED Sunday school. I will give my children a choice but before theyre old enough to make that choice I would like to show them that it is out there.

yeah i am not even sure yet what we're going to do with our kids but only because we are different religions. We've discussed different options but havent decided on something. No matter what though i would never be opposed to Dh bringing him to the catholic church and learning those beliefs, i mean we might end up baptising them catholic so who knows. To be honest, i wish i could just let me kid grow up learning about all the different religions in the world and they can pick one out they feel strongly about, dh looks at me like i am crazy when i say this hahaha but then part of him feels the same way.

Its weird bc when it comes down to it, for most of us religion is not a choice, we are born into a religion practically and our belief system comes from what we are told to believe in a way. Religion should be something you feel strongly about in your heart, so this is where i have issues with this bc if we're baptised as babies and brought into a family that basically is telling you how to feel about religion then not every situation you can say that this is what they would truly believe. Not everyone is forced and many do decide to follow a different path when they get older. And many also do strongly believe in their own religion, like you said you stopped going but then you ended up going back so it is something that you feel in your heart.

it's weird. we have similar views on politics but yet we are rooting for different candidates. he leans more to the right while i lean to the left. we have some debates on the issue but they never end well.

we enjoy talking politcs though...no matter how stubborn the other person is

I'm embarassed to say it... but my DH will not vote.

I will be voting, though.

it's okay Danielle....Chris doesnt vote either

Do you girls know why they dont vote??

check above in my other post I think that is his reasoning. Plus he honestly believes his vote wont count or make a difference...he is a stubborn man i have tried to influence him to vote but it's a no go

its funny to read this because a lot of men i've been speaking to lately say that they refuse to vote. their like 'New York always goes blue so what does it matter?'

or that due to past elections, democracy is a dying art so why bother?

sadly, not voting seems to be a lot of people's choice

religion is defintly a tricky topic like politics...both FH and I were raised catholic and plan on raising our children catholic, attending mass as a family etc...So I guess we have it easy that we agree on this.

not sure yet. He knows he is voting for Obama. I am still undecided. So its possible.

Yes DH and I have entirely different opinions but everyone is entitled to that... We have construstive arguements about it but it doesnt even matter. Whoever wins will win in November...

DH and I usually agree politically speaking on many issues. But it doesn't seem like we are in favor of the same candidate this year. But I don't think that says much because I don't think we have very great choices. The only thing we can do it read about the candidates on issues and vote with our gut feeling.

i think i am the only person who isnt bothered with somebody feeling differently than me

i guess bc i dont like for someone to push their ideas on me, i like to be my own person and i would want to treat someone the same way, if i dont want it being done to me, i cant do it to someone else. ALso i wouldnt want someone to just agree me just because, i respect somebody alot more who disagrees with me than somebody who doesnt have an opinion at all or will just go with whatever i say. Qualities i look for in a person is somebody who is passionate, who can actually sit there and debate with me their side, yes we might be on different sides but hey you can always learn things from someone else and see things from someone elses point of view, i like for them to make up their own mind on issues. I wouldn't change my views for somebody else and i would hate it if somebody changed their views JUST bc of me.

I also see it as everyone is different, how in the world can we all think alike. WE are different nationalities, different religions, different upbringings, we choose different paths in life so its only normal. I actually LOVE being around people who come from a different background, had a different life, different religions and talking to them to hear their point of views, sometimes what we think is right can be wrong and sometimes how we view things might be different than what we were lead to believe.

Maybe its my aquarius nature and i dont like to judge people for who they are, but then again dh is also aquarius so dont know what happened to him hahaha

ETA: i think the world would be a boring place if we all felt the same way. Its all the different views for generations that got us to where we are. There were those who had radical thoughts and everyone was against them at that time, thank god that didnt stop them. I wouldnt like it if everybody around me all felt the same way and did everything the same

Denise I totally agree with you. I like that people have different opinions and resons for them.

I get offended when people try to push their beliefs on me. I don't mind a discussion or a debate about it. But if someone wont listen to me or another persons views it bugs the everliving crap out of me. I also get beyond annoyed at television events or concerts where the celeb is getting political. I think its annoying even if I totally agree with them. I just feel like they are trying to push their views and think people will care cus they are famous. I respect their opinion, but if I am watching an awards show or at a concert, the moment it gets political is the moment i turn it off or stop listening. ETA: The exception to this is when they just tell people to vote. think thats fine. As long as they are not telling you who to vote for.

We are voting differently. It doesn't bother me that we are, just that he can't see my point of view on my choice.

My FH will probably not vote either, at least that's the way he's been talking. He doesn't think all votes count after the 2000 election vote-counting fiasco with hanging chads.

I'm voting because I feel that women before me fought long and hard in terrible conditions to secure my right to vote and ulitmately be given the same respect at the polls as men. I'm not a feminist by far, but rather believe in equality, and there once was a time when women's opinions, especially in political matters, weren't even recognized. That being said, I also wouldn't vote for a woman JUST BECAUSE she's a woman. It's all about the platform and how it matches my (and my family's) situation and beliefs.

FH and I usually agree on most issues, but every so often we have our own interesting debates. I wouldn't vote for his choice just to go along with him. That negates having my own right to vote for my choice.

JMHO.

We are most likely going to be voting differently. Which really blows my mind and does kind of annoy me but throughout our relationship we have always respected each others' opinions and when we do discuss politics it is typically a very cordial conversation.

DH and I are most definitely voting differently...not because of differing of opinion, we share some passionately and others we differ greatly....

But the main reason we vote differently is b/c I can't vote b/c I'm not a citizen.
