I thought the 25 and under thread was pretty interesting, and I wanted to see the other side of the coin - US (the older brides)!
Do you get told you are 'too young' for marriage, or have your heard, 'Well it's about time' . . .
I'm 30 and will be married in November. I've been dating my FH since I was 25 (he had just turned 28). I CAN NOT IMAGINE if I had married the man that I was with at 23 and I breathe a sigh of relief every time I look at FH. (Of course I realize that it isn't the same for everyone, my best friend got married at 23 and they are one of the happiest couples I've ever come across). Anyone else feel that way?

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over
I'm 27, will be 28 in September. FH is 28. We've been together 6 years in November. It's a good time to get married, but honestly it has just been the past year that I've felt like he's been ready. I have probably been ready for a couple of years, but not him. So, I'm glad we waited.

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over
Yes, I was thinking exactly the same thing when I first read this thread! I think when I was 25, I was pretty unsure of myself and drawn to the wrong people, and all I could think was what a nightmare if I had married my sweetie from that time! We would probably be divorced by now.
Not to say everyone has that problem. My sister got married at 25, but she found a good guy, and I think she was more mature than I was at her age. Four years later, they seem to be doing well.
When I was in my early 30s, people kept asking me when I was going to get married. Somewhere in my mid-30s, I think they gave up and stopped asking!
For me, it was best to wait. It took me a long time to find the right guy, but he is well worth waiting for!

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over
I'm very glad to be getting married at 30. I feel like I am a different person than I was even 5-6 years ago. I'm not sure I was even mature enough to have been with my current FH then. I would have probably screwed it up. So.... although I'm sure I still have a long way to go, I feel like this is the best decision I've ever made and a lot of it had to do with me having time to do my own thing and grow up first!

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over
I'm 34, FH will be 40 in a couple of months. My baby sister got married 3 years ago, and all I heard was what was I waiting for? (my sister is 6 years younger than me).
I got engaged in February of this year, and I heard either 'we never thought this would happen' or 'it's about time, you're not getting any younger' !!! The nerve of people!!!
But I do have to say, I look back now, and I'm glad I didn't get married when I was in my 20's. Not that I think anything's wrong with it, my sister was a month shy of her 25th bday. But for me, it's better that I'm older. It's what works for me.

I guess I belong right in the middle! Actually I always thought I would be around 27 when I got married but it just happened this way. I don't think I am too young to be married. I think at any age there are people who are mature enough and people who are not mature enough to be married.

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over
Im 27 and FH is 30...and both say all the time that its a good thing we didnt know each other in our early 20's. We were both wild and crazy...neither one of us would have made a wife or husband then. We both are very different people now.
Im glad that I didnt get married too young...I dont feel like I missed out on anything. I've done my traveling, and my fair share of partying.

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over
I cannot imagine being married at 25 or younger. I feel like I've grown so much since then. I guess we're constantly growing. I dated a lot almost got married once to a guy I know would have been bad for me. All the dating I did made me realize I've got the BEST man for me. It's totally worth the wait!
and yes...I heard the it's about time statement...and already the children statements are coming...AHHH!
ETA: When we get married I'll be 29 and FH will be 30.

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over
Many of my friends got married young while others are still single. I am 38 and feel that for me this is the perfect age to get married. I think back to who I was with when I was younger and I think that I would have not been happy and my life would have turned out much differently. I HATED the fact that people used to ask me, 'When are you getting married?' 'Do you think you'll have kids?' 'Are you going to be single forever?'
Did anyone else get questioned endlessly until they announced their engagement?

I am glad that I waited. My bf when I was in my early 20s actually proposed to try and get me back. That would have been HELL! I would be divorced by now as he was SO wrong for me.
I met FH at 25 and will be getting married at 31 and it couldn't be a better time.

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over
I'm 37 and my FH is the wrong side of 39 . It's the first marriage for both of us, but we have both been engaged before. FH is totally different from the man I was engaged to before and I can't imagine how my life would be now if I had been married at 24. I certainly would not be in the US having the wonderful, fulfilling life I have now.
My sister was married at 25 and that has worked out very well for her. I always say that I am a late developer, but I believe that everything my life is now, is exactly as was planned for me.
I have to point out that nobody EVER said to me that I should be married or that I should have kids. I feel very fortunate that way.

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over
I'll be 29 next month and have been with FH since I was 21. I can not imagine having married him at any point from 21-25 because we both changed so much as young-adult-people. Who we are now, is so far from who we were then.
Granted, we did make it through our life changes and we are only stronger for it. But during those times, we were both so far from emotionally mature enough for marriage that I'm quite sure we would have been divorced already.
We never got the 'too young' thing. We did get the 'well it's about time you made it 'official' ' comments and we found them to be endearing because we've been through so much and have worked so hard on our relationship, we take great pride in knowing that we both accept who we were, and who we've become. SO, yeah, it was about time.

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over
I will be 27 in 9 days. So, I was 26 and 3/4 when we got married. DH is 29, and will be 30 in March. We dated over 4 1/2 years before we got married and I think that was the best. When we met, we were both in school and had lots going on. I think I got married at the perfect time. We want to wait about 2 years to start having kids, which is nice since I wanted to at least try to have our first child before I was 30. I just remember when we first met how we were. Going out and drinking anf partying all night. That wasnt the time to get married....we just needed to wait. Plus, we moved in 2 months before the wedding, which was good, so we could get all those fights over with!! lol

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over
We are both 28- and I think it's the perfect age to get married
I almost got married at 23- what a mistake that would have been
I also think we are old enough to realize what is important- the marriage not the day- I don't like at 23 I would have seen the differnce
