Spinoff: 26 and over

Original post by McSulllivan

I thought the 25 and under thread was pretty interesting, and I wanted to see the other side of the coin - US (the older brides)!

Do you get told you are 'too young' for marriage, or have your heard, 'Well it's about time' . . .

I'm 30 and will be married in November. I've been dating my FH since I was 25 (he had just turned 28). I CAN NOT IMAGINE if I had married the man that I was with at 23 and I breathe a sigh of relief every time I look at FH. (Of course I realize that it isn't the same for everyone, my best friend got married at 23 and they are one of the happiest couples I've ever come across).

Anyone else feel that way?

I'm very glad to be getting married at 30. I feel like I am a different person than I was even 5-6 years ago. I'm not sure I was even mature enough to have been with my current FH then. I would have probably screwed it up. So.... although I'm sure I still have a long way to go, I feel like this is the best decision I've ever made and a lot of it had to do with me having time to do my own thing and grow up first!

ooh so true for me too!!!
I am 29 and will be 30 one week before my wedding!!! FHh is 26 and will be 27, 4 days before our wedding. But if you met him, you'd think he was 40. He is way mature for his age. More mature that I am.
I am a totally different person than I was at 24. I became a Mother at 24 and it changed my life and my whole world forever!!!! Although, it happened backwards for me, I have no regrets!!!

My FH is a wonderful man that loves me and loves my daughter as if she was his own. I am truly blessed.!!!

it took a long time for me to find my soulmate. Do I wish I had found him sooner? you bet! I couldn't be happier getting married at an over 30 age - because he was worth the wait!
When I think back to the person I was in my early 20's, I am TOTALLY different today!!

i'll be 30 when i get married - its a month before my 31st b-day....i don't really hear the whole 'its about time' thing...i think its more the norm to be getting married later in life...not that 30 is soo old, but i could not imagine getting married at 21 or 22.

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over

I will be 34 a month before I get married and FH will be 30 two months after we get married, honestly I felt no pressure from other people, ie parents, friends etc. But I felt my own pressure, just because I want to have kids before I get too old to be able to keep up with them.

I think for myself I am at the ideal age, just because I finally figured out who I am and what I need in a partner. As far as the age difference, with some small exceptions I don't have any plms with it at all. But one thing I have noticed is, since he is younger, time doesn't really matter to him as much, to him we have so much time and to me it feels like I won't have enough time at all.

I would have liked to be married a few years before starting a family, but now that I am older I feel more in rush for the family part. Who knows what will happen, it's all in God's hands

Sorry for the rambling...lol

I just turned 32 and FH just turned 40. I'm glad I waited. I was having way too much fun in my twenties to settle down!

I'm 34 and my husband is 39. I've been with him since I was 21!
I am so glad we took our time and spent our 20's/his 30's traveling and doing what we wanted/needed to do for ourselves.
I couldn't be happier and wouldn't change a thing.
But I also respect people who want to get married young......it is a personal decision...it depends on what is right for you.

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over

We are both 30 (got married 2 1/2 weeks ago) and had been dating 8 years.... at times I wanted to get married earlier but it just wasn't right for both of us until now....I have no regrets in waiting, our wedding day was the happiest day of our lives so far and it was just so right for us. That being said everyone, couple, situation is different....it's hard when people say you are too young or it's about time (I wish people would keep those thoughts to themselves but remember it's more about them than you!)....we actually got both those types of comments so it's kind of funny for us.

We'll both be 28 when we get married and we always say it's the perfect age for us. We've been together since we were 23. I was only ready to get married when I was about 25 and just recently decided that I wanted to have kids! I think everyone's different but this has worked out for us. We're both settled in our careers and are ready for the next 'step'. Personally, I can't imagine if I had gotten married younger. There was too much going on in life between college, grad school, and trying to start a career! What time would there be to plan a wedding!

Thank God I didn't marry the person I was engaged to at 26- it never would have worked out. I really am glad I waited to find the right person- I was one of the last to get married but it was soooo worth it.

We are both 31 now- I cant imagine being married any younger than about 28. I don't think I would have been ready any earlier!

I am 28 and fh just turned 30. We both are SOOOOO glad we met when we did! We both did our wild and crazy things - had long term relationships and short relationships and dated around and partied and then, just as we were getting totally sick of that - we met!! Couldn't have been more perfect.

Funny thing is, we very EASILY could have met early in life. We went to the same Jr. HS together and spent 3 years together in the same HS!! Hung w/ the same people , but NEVER EVER MET!!! and it is not a big HS!

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over

I guess my story can go on both threads. I got married the first time at 19 (too young!!) but my husband was 33. Not too many people were surprised that I got married that young because I have always been an 'old soul' - Anyway, I wouldn't necessarily call my marriage a mistake, it lasted for 15 years and produced two wonderful children. The reason for the break up - I 'outgrew' my husband. I developed and grew and he stayed the same and we just grew apart.

I am now 40 and FH is 55 (always did like the older men). Our relationship is very different from that with my first husband. When FH and first got engaged, I felt we too old for a wedding I was even sort of embarrassed by it but with the support of my family and friends we are doing it full force and this one will last 4EVER!!!

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over

Well I got married before at 24 for the wrong reasons (pregnancy) and it was a big mistake. I was definately too young for both. I am so glad I have my son now though. Hes such a sweetie!!

I think around 30 is a good age.

Re: Spinoff: 26 and over

I'm going to be 30 and he 33 when we get married and as much as I wanted to get married since the age of 16 I was by NO WAY ready. I had so much growing up to do, so many things that I needed to experience myself. Everyone's situations are different and people get married at different ages and have a wonderful marriage but for me, I honestly believe I needed to go through certain life events before meeting FH. I COMPLETELY would have said after a amonth 'he's too nice.' and let it go. But after certain situations happened, I woke up and realized that if I didn't start growing up, I was going to spend my life with either someone who was horrible to be with or no one at all. All I knew is that I had a lot of growing up to do before I met my FH and like all things, meeting him was at the most perfect point in my life.
