SPINOFF: Did you pick out your own e-ring?

FH I went together..one day he picked me up from work...I worked across from the mall and he just led me to zales. I got some ideas there, but the stuff they had wasn't really the quality level we were looing for, so a few weeks later he took me to a jeweler (the same one who did my sister's e-ring), and we really picked it out...he tired to hide it, but he put down a deposit that day..but I didn't get it for another 4 months after that. I was really surprised!

I picked out because dh had no clue and he gave it to me after we were already married.

I picked out the diamond and the setting. FH had no idea what to get me. I think he felt bad that I did all the work because after he gave me my E-ring he gave a diamond pendent he designed with the jewler.

FH did it all himself...The one thing I requested was a round stone...Other then that, he had the ring custom made to what he liked...I don't think I would have picked as nice of a ring if he let me do the picking

You definitely should go, that way you can help him out to make a more informed decision.

All I said was three stone, round or princess cut and platinum band. He came back with mine and I LOVE it@!

FH had an idea of what I wanted but he did all by himself! I was pretty impressed though! He did a great job! I love my ring

FH did it all by himself. Im mean, Sure...i gave him hints of what I liked but he always steered me in a different direction by telling me what 'He' liked. So I was set on getting something completely different. HE surprised me with the proposal and the ring that 'I' wanted!

FH shopped for months with his mother, sister, and cousin and nobody could agree with something that would be perfect for me - then FSIL got engaged so FH started talking about her ring and I said I didn't like it. After that he told me we had some important shopping to do and that i might want to do my nails, he suprised me taking me ring shopping but told me if I didn't find anything i liked we had appointments at other stores, he also bought my several magazines to get ideas of what I'd like. I fell in love with my ring in a magazine, then the web, we had to drive over an hour to the only store nearby that carried it to see it in person. I didn't get it for over a month after that because he wanted to suprise me and come up with something romantic so I could have a good story to tell I love my FH

Mine is an heirloom. Neither FH nor I picked it out, but I love it and would have picked something similar.

We went shopping a few times so I could try on rings and I gave my FI an idea of what I wanted...Tiffany Setting 6 prong solitaire and thats what he gave me..BUT IT was better than I could have ever hoped for. HE researched so much and did such an AWESOME JOB!!! I LOVE MY E-RING

I told him what I wanted. Then he went with a friend to Fortunoff to look at settings - he'd never buy retail - just went to look at settings. He saw something he liked that was a little different from what I described and he wanted me to see it. So I went to see it, tried it on, then we walked out. He had the ring made through his friend - a diamond dealer in the city. More often than not, women do help in some form or another. A ring is too huge of an investment to wing it IMO - especially if it is something you will wear forever. I would never have a ring reset. I picked a classic style that would stand the test of time.

He picked it out all by himself - I had no clue that we were getting engaged, however FH could not keep a secret and told me - he traveled from Florida to NY with it in his pocket.

We were down in the diamond district in the summer and we decided to look at rings. We went into the store where he ultimately ended up buying my ring from and spent about 45 min. with the jeweler. I always thought I wanted a round center stone with pear shaped side stones. But when i tried it on, I didn't like it. That's when the jeweler brought out the setting I have now (round center stone, 2 smaller round side stones, and 3 channel set diamond on either side) and FELL IN LOVE! He wrote down the style # of the setting and I held on to it. After FI became sick, he told me that he realized he didn't want to wait to get engaged any longer. That day, the store card fell out of the entertainment center and FI found it. He called them and put a deposit on it. I had no clue!! I was shocked to get it 2 days after Thanksgiving. I love it!

I went with FH -- and my parents -- to pick the setting out. The stone was from his family, and a friend of our family is a jeweler and has always given us great discounts on jewelry. I think we just felt more comfortable going all together since my father knew this guy best and FH didn't. Plus, I liked having my mom there to give me an opinion about the settings. It might sound odd that it was a family thing, but I think it was nice that they were there for it. Sort of a prelude to the blending of the families.

I went with DH to pick it out. I told him that all I wanted was a solitaire ring (round). The guy who sold us the diamond ring only had a 1.58 stone, when all I wanted was a 1 karat...but I took it anyway...
