Spinoff from Rich Girls post: Do you find today's teenage generation extremely RUDE?

I do.

I feel as if most of them have no manners or respect and are into things I didn't even know about at that age. I don't think they appreciate what is given to them.

What is the difference - what prompted this? I think a few factors are:

-the internet
-cable TV almost everywhere
-hardcore rap music (NOT all rap)

what do youy think?

Generally speaking, I think people of all ages are more rude.

As for your question, I think that households with two working parents and the over burdened education system contibute as well.

Plus there are always new trends in clothing & speech that will always allude the previous generation.

While I do not understand what some kids are saying and I have no comment about the jeans that are 19 sizes too big.

I am sure my parents generation had a big question mark in their heads with the Valley Girl phenomena and madona fashion that was poplular in the 80's.

I completely agree. Even though it wasn't that long that I was a teenager. I think it had to do mostly with their parents and the values that they teach their kids. Also some of what you mentioned.

Yes I do think they are rude- but for a different reason..

These are the children of the Baby Boomers. They Baby Boomers want to give their children EVERYTHING they never had.. SO these kids are more spoiled. In addition- the Baby Boomers work a lot more than generations preceeding them. So these kids don't have very good socialization skills OR morals as their parents rely on everyone but themselves to instill basic moral fortitude into these brats...

can you tell I have strong feelings about this?

Yesterday I was on the 6 train at about 2.30 going uptown to a meeting... well, at the 33rd st. stop (by a highschool) about 40 kids push themselves into that train (which was already crowded) and proceeded to curse, scream, jostle people, harass them, etc... it's like they got the inner city ghetto handbook or something.. makes me very sad..

Hopefully they'll mature and we'll just be cranky like our parents.

Hey at least those kids were on the train - I know kids that have NEVER taken public transportation in their life at the age of 18-19. They get chauffered around by the parents everywhere - whatever happend to bikes, and heres a crazy one WALKING ???
Please I can't take it.

A member of my family is young and tries to get fresh with me ..... I am like I can kick your azz baby you better tone it down with me - I am not your parents, i dont take that crap see.

I have to say...i think our generation was just like them...

maybe being a HS teacher let me have an inside look...but there are still kids without anything...and they all walk...

true there are some that get anything they want...but I knew some people like that in HS...

YES!!!! They have no respect for anyone!!! Not even their parents!! It is very disturbing. What happened? I am only 26 and I was raised to be courteous and have manners. Kids today have no manners, morals or values. I know it is hard nowadays having so many single parents, divorced families and such, but I myself had divorced parents and was raised mostly by my mother. She was not home a lot of the time because she was busting her but working to keep us taken care of and she was in school getting her degrees. Somehow, we turned out A-ok and with much gratitude and respect for her and what she did. Kids today take a lot for granted. Things are just handed to them on silver platters and they have no appreciation for anything. I think that is a big problem. They are so spoiled and don't give a rats ass about anyone but themselves!!!

YES!!!!
I really believe that there are a lot more who are like that now then when I was that age - not to say there weren't rude abnoxios kids when I was there, but, just seems like there are so many of them now.
But, I realize that my perception is skewed a little since I'm not one of them - I always laugh at myself when I realize I am so 'OLD'. I find myself saying things like -'These kids today...!' a lot!!

I think there are too many kids who have a severe lack of parental supervision and an overabundance of funds. This only leads to trouble. On the other hand, I know some really nice well mannered teenagers who work hard and aspire for greatness.

Yes.

Hell as a Senior in High School the freshmen were scary.

I think it has a lot to do with parenting.. Not to blame parents, but people need to know that a kid needs a good kick in the ass from time to time to get the point across. Nowadays you get arrested for yelling at your kid the wrong way.

Yeah, Im so against the rap crap that is out there. I was shocked to hear a DECENT good rap song that had a decent message. (cant remember the name) when our idols call women B!tches and Whores what do we expect our kids to say? When their pop princesses look like porn starts why are we surprised? When I was a kid and doing poorly in school my dad snapped at me 'Pay attention, I dont care how much you hate it, it's school, respect your teachers, shut up and listen' now it's 'oh poor thing as ADD, lets help'.

The TV was our babysitters, but we still went out to play. Now on clear spring days the streets are empty parks only have parents who drag their kids there or babies in strollers why.. cause they are online or gamin. That's insane. My parents would throw us out at a certain point 'Go outside and play'.

Some parents are just as rude. What I noticed is in Penn Station or a mall in long island I never hear a mother say (or not often) 'Watch where you going!, say excuse me.. be careful' instead they let their kids run rampant because they don't care either.

Touch my kid and I'll kick your butt, but I'll let him destroy your property no problem.

It's a mess. Im almost afraid to have kids.

I agree and see it everyday whith the children i teach, forget teenagers even pre teen i have 6th graders and I would nver have said half teh stuf they say to teachers today!!

but I don't think kids (at least not the ones I grew up with) were as rude as they are today.

1. Because parents are afraid of their kids 2. parents are too busy to ever say NO its much easier to appease kids.

I also think a lot is home...they are allowed to get away with it at home, so they bring it to school. Or, they are NOT getting attention at home, and will do anything to get attention at school, whether it be positive or negative.
It is such a different generation of kids.
