SPINOFF from the Janet post: TV, these days.. like 'THIS' was bad? CONTROVERSY?

Just a controversal topic I guess.

I mean I wonder.. who cares?
So they showed her covered boob.
Lil Kim had worse and that was shown for MUCH longer and even played with by Diana Ross!

Janets was a full second of shock.. that's it.. most people had no idea what it was only that it was NOT a bare breast (which I feel knocks out the 'it was an accident' theory).

TV these days has gotten nasty. It's alright to have a reality show that for all purposes takes advantage of people and puts them in bad situations and our kids watch. It's alright to show women wearing less in full view during dinner. It's alright to show all this, but be damned if you'll show a flash of tit during halftime.

I think the shock has taken over and gotten out of control. Madonna and Ms Spears tangle deep tongue (Britany 'Oh I had no idea' really so that's why you shoved your tongue down her throat?) but that's ok.. Janet has a half second of fame and the world errupts.

Im lost.

What's the difference..?

SkinaMax has shown porn for years and no one cares cause ... what?.. you don't see d*ck? I don't get it. I've flipped channels and found myself watching gay men go at it for a sitcom (Queer as folk, I think). But that's ok. I flip around some more and see people eating worms, raw eggs and jumping from speeding boats. Great lessons for my kids.

I don't know how parents do this anymore. From the Thong Song to Survivor Tv just sucks lately.

Janet.. please that news is so yesterday!
It wasn't THAT big of a deal.. barebreasted would have been shocking... this was ..
well .. it was just Sad.

JMHO

When the top movie out is 'You've been served' and top music is all about calling women B*tches and Whores and how to do it good and blah blah blah cursing blah blah.. and when clothes designs are dictacted by hip hop artist and mimic Gang lifestyles and when being cool means looking scary and dangerous... what do you expect to see on TV?

the difference is that those other shocking moments were on mtv or late night award shows. this was on the super bowl which is often a family event. parents know not to let their children watch awards shows because there will be women dressed very scandalously (ie lil kim). but a parent cannot be expected to know that janet jackson will whip out her boob for their children to see during the super bowl. so the difference is where and when the shocking moment is aired.

I can't believe I missed the Janet thing - I must've turned my head for a sec to talk to someone. Anyway, I don't think it's that big of a deal. But don't even get me started with the trash on MTV.....

I guess that is why I chose what I watch. Its as if these days they have shocked us beyond shocking us, so now we are in anything goes kindda world. I guess you want to watch you watch you don't you don't. THis does not affect me one way or another. I guess this is the age of promoting your upcomign album. Did Britney do it before her album came out?

It was broadcasted.. 'Half time is brought to you by MTV'

Frankly I can't remember when it WASNT done by MTV.

Knowing that.. I guess if you don't want your kids seeing that.. then don't let them watch MTV?

Amen. It is all just lame. It has gotten to the point where it is just lame. These 'artists' need to get a clue that shock value, boobs, and big booties don't sell records. If your song suck, you could run around naked and no one is going to buy it. Have they thought about 'what next' I think they have pushed the law as far as it can go. Lord knows that they really can't shock us with their talent so all they have is their bodies. It is truly sad. Just pathetic. I am all for expressing yourself but like anything else in life there is a time and place for everything. Halftime at football is not going to be censored by parents who would think that you have to censor your kids from that????? I mean if they are watching the VMAs you expect that kinda nonsense. What are going to have to do. Lock their children in the basement, forever. You can't go anywhere. Even the freakin commercials, and ads are filled with sexual innuendos.

eta - mtv.says it all. That is all they are good for anymore. They need to stick to mtv and not branch out into mainstream.

It's expected by parents that MTV will push buttons everytime the awards show airs. So it's expected that parents shouldn't let their kids watch it. It's expected that the new season of the Real World with try to top the last, and again, that your kids shouldn't be watching it.

It's expected that at 11:30 on most nights, Cinemax will air stupid soft porn flicks that kids shouldn't be watching, and that parents should see to it that they don't.

It's expected that when the entire nation collectively sits down to watch the Superbowl, a FOOTBALL GAME, that the halftime show in previous years was G rated, be G rated again.

It's expected that MTV can't be trusted to do anything positive with the time they are given on network television, and it's expected that pop stars will ALWAYS only think of themselves.

And, I expect that the networks will let them get away with it again, because there is plenty-o-money in all this complete bull-sh**.

Man I really wasn't paying attention! I didn't know MTV did the half-time show. But that explains it.

Oh, and out of the 8 of us at my house watching it yesterday, not ONE of us saw what happened!

Have you HEARD the latest music???
THey DO suck!! They aren't even tRYINg to make music anymore.. its embarassing!
I don't care what your milkshake does or doesnt do..what the hell are you saying and why is it so lyrically moving that it's a top seller?

The music they try to sell all has to do about sex, drugs, hate, killing, gangs, revenge, or getting drunk. That's *IF* you can figure out what they're saying.

Ya know what?
They sell millions. Its so ridiculous!

G Rating to me used to mean cartoons. (before South Park). PG was a little more exciting but nothing too shocking..

Superbowl half time this year from the GET go was NOT G rated. If a parent really felt that serious about it (none here are implied with this.. all women here obviously care enough) then when you saw Janet bumping and grinding her butt all over Justin's C0ck area.. they can't say that's G rated... that's not something I want my kid to see..
'Look mommy.. he slapped her butt'

Its called since I have no talent I will try to divert your attention from my singing to my body parts, or the other 1/2 naked girls in the video. PS ever notice these videos, the men are fully dressed and all the women are practically wearing nothing *shakes head in dismay*

Bingo! The only thing these idiots have are their choreographers and costume designers...most of them don't even have a vocal coach on staff anymore.

Well I guess it all falls back on the consumer. People are only going to do what gets them more fame and money and I suppose that means by all means necessary. Instead of people saying how lame it is, they start roaring in the crowd. What the hell is so great about that. Pathetic. I would have to say that the WORST song I have heard in my LIFE, that is no exaggeration, is that song by Lumidee 'Uh ohh'. O please do not get me started on what record labels are doing to someof these people. It is a vicious cycle. No one can watch thier child 24 hours a day. These are things that are held up as 'cool'. Prettens showing their belly button andf wearing makep. Young boys wearing all this FAKE jewelry talking about 'bling bling'. It is just retarded. I guess I will stick to my old school artists.

Amen
I get burned when they sample good music and ruin it.

By the way, that's the reason I was on the old Napster band wagon.. some of my old music I can't even BUY anymore..!

Still...

You can't watch your child 24/7 but the butt grinding/grabbing/slapping would have warned me this was NOT G rated.

I heard the NFL is really pissed off and that MTV will not be hosting half time anymore. I am sorry, but that is not approrpiate for a half time show that so many families gather together to watch. If that is the only way you know to sell records, it is time for another job!!

I did not see the show, but that is probably because I don't watchtelevision. I got me an ipod for christmas, and I will love FH forever. That is the best thing I have. The itunes where i buy my songs from has alllllllll the good stuff. Sarah Vaugh, Billie holiday, Etta James, Regina Belle, Anita baker and evrybody for way back. I can't handle the young funky bunch. I must be too old or something

The people in music these days are all copycats and then when they re-do the good music of yesteryears theyre-do it with all kinds of profanity, that is when you say, you make a good thing bad. If these artist of today are waiting on me to get their bling, bling, they would die hungry. I love music that I can understand and can teach me something. You are not getting my $18 A cd full of nothingness

Okay, I hate to sound like my parents right now, but whatever happened to the days when people just played and enjoyed music? Don't get me wrong, there is still a lot of great music these days, but it seems to me a lot of the mainstream artists today are noticed more for controversy than anything else!! Its a shame and it seems to be getting worse! There are many talented artists out there trying to survive on talent alone to no avail!!
