SPINOFF from the Janet post: TV, these days.. like 'THIS' was bad? CONTROVERSY?

Original post by Xelindrya

Just a controversal topic I guess.

I mean I wonder.. who cares?
So they showed her covered boob.
Lil Kim had worse and that was shown for MUCH longer and even played with by Diana Ross!

Janets was a full second of shock.. that's it.. most people had no idea what it was only that it was NOT a bare breast (which I feel knocks out the 'it was an accident' theory).

TV these days has gotten nasty. It's alright to have a reality show that for all purposes takes advantage of people and puts them in bad situations and our kids watch. It's alright to show women wearing less in full view during dinner. It's alright to show all this, but be damned if you'll show a flash of tit during halftime.

I think the shock has taken over and gotten out of control. Madonna and Ms Spears tangle deep tongue (Britany 'Oh I had no idea' really so that's why you shoved your tongue down her throat?) but that's ok.. Janet has a half second of fame and the world errupts.

Im lost.

What's the difference..?

SkinaMax has shown porn for years and no one cares cause ... what?.. you don't see d*ck? I don't get it. I've flipped channels and found myself watching gay men go at it for a sitcom (Queer as folk, I think). But that's ok. I flip around some more and see people eating worms, raw eggs and jumping from speeding boats. Great lessons for my kids.

I don't know how parents do this anymore. From the Thong Song to Survivor Tv just sucks lately.

Janet.. please that news is so yesterday!
It wasn't THAT big of a deal.. barebreasted would have been shocking... this was ..
well .. it was just Sad.

JMHO

When the top movie out is 'You've been served' and top music is all about calling women B*tches and Whores and how to do it good and blah blah blah cursing blah blah.. and when clothes designs are dictacted by hip hop artist and mimic Gang lifestyles and when being cool means looking scary and dangerous... what do you expect to see on TV?

$18.. I wish.

Most of the music I want is more like $25 if I can FIND it.

I havent bought a SINGLE song that has been made in the past 3 years.. why? I dont like most of the album and Im not paying $4 for a single. It's insane. Call it illegal..whatever.. I call it highway robbery what the music industry does to us.

The people in music these days are all copycats and then when they re-do the good music of yesteryears theyre-do it with all kinds of profanity, that is when you say, you make a good thing bad. If these artist of today are waiting on me to get their bling, bling, they would die hungry. I love music that I can understand and can teach me something. You are not getting my $18 A cd full of nothingness

Again I say BINGO! It's amazing really, not one artist can have any success with at least attempting to re-do a song that was already done perfectly. They have to butcher it and try to make it their own in some way. There isn't a cd out today, with the exception of maybe Alicia Keys and a few other select artists that aren't doing very well, that can be listened to from beginning to end. The only way they get sales is to do something shocking. Britney's album had a very lackluster performance on the charts, and then she kissed Madonna and it goes platinum. It's not the music that sells anymore and it's pathetic. In a way, it makes me kind of happy that a good portion of the executives in the music industry are going to be canned in the next few weeks, their 'ears' are what is responsible for the CRAP that is shoveled down our throats now. You know the Brady Bunch song..'when it's time to change, you've got to rearrange...'...never was a Brady more right! LOL.

I really long for the days when an album that cost $4.99, contains 21 songs that you can listen to in a row without skipping, and the artist actually wrote the songs, produced them, and performed them....without ever taking any clothing off, using a voice box, or a computerized drum kit! To get that, we'd have to wait for the next Stevie Wonder, 'Songs In the Key Of Life'!

Its called since I have no talent I will try to divert your attention from my singing to my body parts,

That's why I'm a little surprised at Janet. She has talent. She doesn't need to flash the world to warrant attention.

The awful thing about his was that Justin PULLED HER TOP OFF - she didn't come out with it off, she didn't pullit off herself, but He pulled it off, and she made a face like she was ashamed.

It made it look like it's ok for guys to pull off your shirt! (Ok, we adults know it's not ok, but do kids?)

Misty, can I get an AMEN!!!! I guess someone has to be buying these albums, these fools are selling like hot cakes.

Misty even a contestant on American Idol thought she could make it w/o talent, she said, they are synthesizing everyone, synthesize me, make me good. That says volumes.

Yes she is but even the best people get nervous. When you see chicken heads like Britney sell 10 million records, and all the rest like Lumidee , jlo, ashanti and all the young bucks, I guess you start thinkinggotta get involved if you wanna contend.

That is the point, it will never end b/c everyone is going to think to get to be noticed you will have to do the same thing, I don't think this is a cool message for our young girls.

I must be desensitized, I didnt even think it was that big of a deal- until the boys at my house wanted me to rewind on the tivo to see Janets boob Even then, I was only surprised that she would do something like that w. all thats going on w. her brother. I would think that the Jackson family has had enough pubilcity for a lifetime....

Shamma, that's just it...they aren't selling! Which is why it all makes NO SENSE. I mean, these things aren't selling to the point where there will soon be only 2 major record labels! Everyone else will be considered an independent. The music industry is suffering so much, it just doesn't make sense that no one has caught on about the fact that it's not the downloading that killing music, it's the MUSIC that is killing music. No one can do what the artists of the 40's-early 90's did. No one. There is nowhere left for these talentless buffoons to go, so they go to the toilet. There was a 10 minute reprieve in sales with the boy bands, and that was it. Every rock band sounds the same, every pop artist uses sex instead of talent (including the HYPOCRITES like Sheryl Crow and Janet Jackson, who use their 'credibility' to dispell the fact that they are using their sexuality more than EVER). Even in urban music, the ability to be as nasty and as violent as ever has become so easy, it's just not interesting anymore.

I could go on about this forever. I'll stop rambling. lol.

I don't claim that there is no good music today but, LIVE music is what is missing IMHO. One of my fondest memories pf last year was watching the Grammys and James Taylor was amazing while all of those 'youngsters' sounded awful.

Music today is all about recording. The art of singing live has been lost. It is sad. I guess that is why I want to do B'Way. Not everyone on the Great White Way is as 'exciting' to watch or the best singer but, at least you know that they are actually doing what you are helping pay them to do.

I absolutely agree. But those fools are selling. I guess when you have the world and record companies watching you feel pressue to produce results by whatever means necessary. How the hell could a label executive look at a 17 year old and tell them they need to get a six pack??? What are these people thinking. It is a vicious cycle that I really don't see the end of.....lol I could go on and on

I will gladly come see you!

ETA: There are plenty that are as exciting....Daphne Ruben Vega without vocal chords could sing circles around Jessica Simpson!!

Was the whole publicity stunt 'that' bad, no. There's a lot worse on TV. Was it necessay, no.

What escalated the whole issue was the internet - I didn't watch the game and within minutes I read about it here and a few minutes later there were links to pictures online.

The whole sex sells/no talent thing is a never ending debate. It seems that the entertainment industry figured out all the formulas long ago and keep recycling them.

I sometimes wonder if Americans were alittle more open about sex (like some other countries) if this would have had such an impact on any of us. Just wondering if we create some of this ourselves.

And thank you Misty!!!!!!

O yea. the rest of the world thinks 'americans' are such puritans yet they put out artists and movies that do nothing but glorify sex. This was said by someone I know from Spain.

I just finished watching 'Inside Edition' and they showed what happened after the CBS broadcast faded away.

It actually looks like it was an accident. He turned her around to I guess cover her and she just held herself. She had a look of embarrassment on her face. They said that her spokesperson said that Justin was only supposed to tear off the first layer. I guess that's why he said it was a waredrobe malfunction.

I originally thought he was only supposed to pull the one layer it looked like he struggled with the oull and the whole thing came off.
