Did anyone here lose weight once they STARTED their dress fittings? Were you charged extra to have it taken in a little more during the 2nd or 3rd fitting??
I know you're supposed to maintain your weight once you start your fittings, but I feel like if you're still exercising and trying to keep healthy and in shape, it could happen...
I paid a shiiiiiiizzzzzzzzz ton of money for my alterations so I'm going to do my best to stay exactly where I am - I literally can't afford to lose weight

Re: Spinoff to dress fittings & weight loss
The only person I can think of that went through this was my mother about 30 years ago She said she dropped about 10-15 pounds between her first and last fitting and they took it in every time. I think that's why there's a cap on alterations.
If Macy's even THINKS about charging me extra, I'm going to scream! They ordered the dress 2 sizes too big! I went to view the dress and try it on and the saleswoman was like, 'You lost weight!' I'm like yeah, 5 pounds, not TWENTY! I was so MAD.

Re: Spinoff to dress fittings & weight loss
lol yeaaapp i lost like 12 lbs. maybe more?
they had to take the dress in a few times...and my fittings were scheduled once a week......1 and a half months b4 myw edding dday. they tried charging me a weight loss fee of an extra 340$. i fought that, and won. i specifically asked 2 ppl at the store does it matter how many times they take in a dress as far as charges. they said NOPE its unlimited... so i went to towwwwwwwn and lost weight lol. so i had a hugee argument with the VP and i got those charges waived. u believe that???? 400 for alterations and another 340 for weight loss? thats WAY MORE than the cap. so yea... BE CAREFUL

Re: Spinoff to dress fittings & weight loss
I have exactly the same question! I went to my first fitting 3 weeks ago and since I planned on still losing weight, the seamstress wouldn't take in the torso of the dress until my second fitting (tonight). The first fitting, all they did was take in the hip part and the hem.
Also to add, the seamstress told me she wouldn't take it in twice if I lost weight again, which is why she said we'd wait until the 2nd fitting to do the torso area. Is that acceptable? How can they refuse to take it in again if it needs to be?
Does anyone know if bridal reflections in massepequa has an alterations cap?

Re: Spinoff to dress fittings & weight loss
I didn't start losing weight until I started my fittings. In fact my first fitting is what made my azz get in gear!! But no, I was not charged extra and it was not frowned upon that I lost extra weight.
ETA: The seamstress asked me every fitting if I was planning on losing more weight and I always said yes so she said that she'd make it EXTRA tight to allow for the weight loss. She did a phenomenal job!!
Edited again to add: I had 4 fittings over a 2 month span and then went back a fifth time to try the dress on once more and bring it home!

I got my dress from Priscilla of Boston in NYC and so did my MOH when she got married... I remember that she got it taken in more after the second fitting and don't remember them charging her, so I'm hoping for the best with that one, and doing my best to maintainnnnnnn...

Re: Spinoff to dress fittings & weight loss
i just started rapidly losing (way to stressed), I haven't started my fittings yet, i figured I had time and I'm going to a private woman that doesn't have a load of work to do? lol.
but i cant lose too much either because they went ahead and ordered me an 18, when i asked for a 16 since the store i tried it on had it in a 16 and it fit perfectly.

Re: Spinoff to dress fittings & weight loss
I have no idea how much weight I lose from when my fittings started, but each time I came in the seamstress took it in more and more. I paid only once for the fittings, there was never an extra charge.
maybe it depends on the salon? I got my dress at Macys NYC and had the alterations there as well. they even gave me a small discount which I asked for.

Re: Spinoff to dress fittings & weight loss
My seamstress yelled @ my for my first fitting and said that I can't lose weight after 8/25! What? She said that they can't take the dress in 2x as it would look bad (sales tactic I think). I want to lose more because it will be 3 1/2 wks of fittings. I will have to lose weight b4 the wedding.

Re: Spinoff to dress fittings & weight loss
I booked my fittings close to my wedding b/c I always lose weight when I am stressed. My final fitting was 4 days before my wedding and the day of my dress was a bit loose and it was TIGHT the day of the last fitting. If you are losing weight I would try to book your final fitting as close to your day as possible...my seamstress recommended this and I am very glad I listened my dress still had to be pinned to my bra...thankfully I had an amazing bridal attendant who knew exactly what she was doing. As for cost my fittings were included in the price of my gown so there was no $$ issue.

Re: Spinoff to dress fittings & weight loss
I just went to another fitting and.. I lost weight! but more importantly for this post.. the seamstress is taking in the hips again even though she already did that part. And she told me to come in 2 more times for fittings just in case I need to get it taken in again! No extra charges! woohoooo
