Spinoff to First job: What you're craziest customer story?

Original post by DebsNY

Many of you seemed to work in retail - what are some of your best crazy customer stories?

I worked at waldbaums, and once had an arguement with a woman over the price of wonderbread.

She said it was too expensive - but couldn't understand that waldbaums didn't set the prices - the vendor did

I also had a guy come in a wire like $3000 overseas, and then come in 10 minutes later wanting a refund - but all the money had already been dropped in the safe So he sat their and waited till we had the cash - i thought he was gonna kill me

I work at Pathmark and I do a little bit of everything lately. Yesterday this guy comes to customer service and says If I have Milk thats expired can I bring it back. I say do you have a reciept and he says no. I was like then no sorry we wont take it back, He goes well its a couple of months old WHO DOES THAT?

I love the people who make steak marinade cook it eat half of it and then bring it back!

I had one guy come in. They are regulars. He brings back an entemans cake and says this cake has a burnt tast to it I said you ate the whole thing and at the last piece relized it tasted burnt then he said I mean its stale. I said you can go pick out a new one. He does. NEXT day his wife comes back with the cake he got the day before with one piece in and says theres a hair in this we don't want it. I said your husband was here yesterday take it home and call the company

working on the phones for credit cards... customer called to dispute a charge on the account. 'Sure, which one.... Girls Gone Wild!!!' Ok, sure. Next question is did you authorize them to use the card. 'YES!' then customer (girl) starts to tell me the whole story how she likes to take care of her husband. Then she proceeds to tell me we both watch all of them and its (GGW) getting old and silly with all these guest appearences. She thought i was gonna be wreid about it and she just had to explain everything.

In Express , I had to tail a drunk --that was fun.
Most of my stores ar eabout the store & managers, not the customers though.

In Kids R us, the customers were surpsingly well behaved, but I had on guy come in with a $100 bill the first thing in the morning & buy something like a $10 shirt. & then get pissed off, when I didn't have enough change. Who buys a $10 shirt with a freaking hundred dollar bill????

And it wasnt like I was going to give him the difference in Geoffrey money, I was just waiting for a manager to bring me change.

My worst storeis are raelly from my current job. I work in publishing & hear from customers & authors, most of whom are professors, with not much grasp on reality.

Oh my god i have many.

I worked at the Wendys in lynbrook in HS for one summer and had a woman alway ask for an empty cup and then she's proceed to fill it with tuna salad from the salad bar. I said something once and she ran out of the place...weird!!

I also worked as a telemarketer for the republican committee (in college) and a guy told me 'if i could reach in my pocket to pull out my credit card i would but i blew all my fingers off with fireworks' and then he laughed like a psycho and i hung up.

my worst was when I was pregnant and some guy actually came in the store on madison avenue and tried to take some bags. I saw him and went to the front and asked him if he needed help, he then proceeded to throw the bags at me, cursed me out and left almost pushing me to the floor.
He never came back, but I was always very scared.

I didn't actually interact with the person, but when I was working at the horse farm, I watched a 12 year old girl scream and yell at her grandparents and order them around to get her things from the car and fetch her saddle from the tack room. These were older people, too. Very sweet, nice people and this spoiled brat was SO mean. I was embarrassed to be listening to the situation .

Oh wow, there are so many stories in the hotel business!

There was the guy that got hammered and beat-up his wife. When she ran out of the room he decided to beat her down the stairs by jumping over the balcony. He landed on his own car, broke both his legs then sued us!

I had a couple in their 90's stay with me one summer. I thought that she might be a little senile, but it was actually him. I didn't realize this until he came in asking for a carving knife and about a half hour after I gave it to him, the restaurant across the street called to say they had one of guest there, looking for his room, with a knife in his hand. He had to cross Montauk highway to get there!

Once I was told I was a liar because I told someone we weren't ocean front. They said they stayed here 10 years before and they knew they had an ocean front room. I told them if they come back in 10 more years and we've had a couple of good hurricanes they might be able to get an ocean front room. It was not very nice of me

Makes you want to stay at my place doesn't it?
I forgot about a found gun, possible terrorist, SARS scare, 3 suicide attempts and 4 deaths, including a naked Bishop!

Now I know you really want to stay!

I have soo many. i was in retail for 14 years so I think I can write a book.

I once had to cut a lady out of a girdle. Mind you she was one of the smelliest people I have ever encountered. She actually was bleeding on the garment because it was so tight. She seriously was a 5XXXXX putting a 2XX on.

I once had a lady who did not know how to put a 3 way convertible bra on and was coming out with the cups on her head and was naked. Now there is a picture that comes on the bra to show you how to put it on. First time I ever saw a naked woman in the flesh besides myself.

Women who don't keep their underwear on while trying swimwear.

People who try to return clothing of deceased relatives because they are cleaning out the closets... This is a popular one.

Ohhh just remembered, we had a security guard who once put mirrors in the ceiling to watch women undress.... yes he was let go over it. So when ever I change I always look up to see there are no mirrors.

Why do people insist on throwing things? I don't care what the situation is, peopel need to grow up! I worked in an Ice Cream Shop during high school and I think each one of us had a cone thrown at them one summer.

OMG, these are hysterical!!

When I worked for Adventureland back in H/S, it seemed like the second the parents crossed over the threshold, they lost their mind. This one idiot father insisted that his child who did not meet the height requirement ride on the bumper cars (that I was running). He argued the point to me and then escalated it to a manager. The manager being a wuss, finally caved and said the kid could ride the ride, provided his parent sign a waiver. The kid got on at night with the rowdy teens and got two teeth knocked out of his head. I felt bad because I could see his face hit the steering wheel. His father FREAKED out on me and the manager and threatened to sue to the place.

Another time, I was running the bumper boats and these idiots got on. This one dumb beyotch was wearing all white (white pants, white shirt, etc.) and decided to stand up in the boat. SPLLLLLOOOOOUUUSSHH!!!! Everyone in the place saw all of her goodies and she got off and pitched a fit about how 'unsafe' the ride was

I worked at Kids R Us, I worked at the customer service desk and ran the front end Mothers during back to school week are the evilest people to walk the earth

I once had a lady make me write up an exchange form for a penny.. She refused to take the penny I offered her from my pocket. She wanted a record of the price difference….

I had a woman threaten to take my skinny little white a$$ out to the parking lot for an asswhoping. All because an item rang up wrong and the girl ringing forgot how to change a price.

I had another woman tell me to watch out when I am leaving because she knows people.. She was irate because she didn't have enough cash to pay for her stuff. The credit card she tried to use was declined and the bank told us to hold it.. (stolen card??)

Beanie babies were big at the time and flew at my head a few times when all cash registers were going but the customer still felt the lines were too long.

I know I have many more. Oh the memories..

Nothing too crazy. When I worked in a photography studio, I had a lady FLIP out at me and start cursing me out, because SHE didn't have enough time to bring her daughter in for pictures. She asked me to keep the store open an hour later for her and she was completely serious about it.

DH has a lot of stories, because he deals with hundreds of people a day over the phone (he works at Cablevision). I remember there was one woman who couldn't understand why her internet service that she was getting in her home didn't work in her office as well. DH had to explain it to her repeatedly for over an hour. She just could NOT understand
