Any girls had keratin? I know that labellavita just had it but i'm wondering what the difference is between that and the brazilian/japanese straightening is.
I really want to get one of these done...if i could just figure out which is which!! hahaha

Re: Spinoff to Keratin Treatment
The japanese straightening is a chemical permanent process, the keratin treatment is much better for your hair and I think it last for a few months- its more of a relaxer then a straightener (so if you wanted to say curl your hair you still could). My hairdresser couldn't recommend the keratin treatment enough to me (I ended up not getting it done but I am thinking about it). The japanese is definitely more severe (and super straight) but I heard it really damages your hair and you have to be careful when getting it done again that they don't re-straighten the same hair bc you could have breakage....HTH

Re: Spinoff to Keratin Treatment
Sorry Kedra I got your fm and was going to wrote back to you tonight. The difference is the japenese is a straightening process that grows out from your roots like when you dye your hair. The keratin/brazillian more of a conditioning treatment that repels water and humidity. You can still curl your hair or whatever you want to it it just won't be frizzy. She said it last the least 3 months the most 5 but everyone's hair is different and it washes out doesn't grow out after time. Hope this helps and go for it!!

get the keratin. I have a bunch of friends that get it done. It's much gentler on your hair.

Re: Spinoff to Keratin Treatment
keratin is great, adds to your hair, doesn't strip it
go for the 3 or four day treatment and do it on a thursday so the grossness is reserved for the weekend ( went to work with the gunk in my hair by the fourth day my hair was so icky and, it looked greasy)
HOWEVER all that being said, my hair was FABULOUS for the next 3 months!!
the Japanese thing is not healthy i hear, leaves your hair split and dry.
hope that helps :)
it runs about 200 to 250 (depends on the salon)
the process goes like this
they put a smock on you they put stuff in your hair the consistency of hair color
with the gunk in they proceed to flat iron your head
you go home and cant wash it, keep it as straight as possible
after about 4 days (your hair gets a little oily, ya haven't washed it in four days!)
then you wash it with a special shampoo
TADA - fabulous hair ( a little flat at the roots, make sure you style accordingly)

Re: Spinoff to Keratin Treatment
I'm going tomorrow to have the keratin/brazilian treatment done!! I can't wait. I had the japanese done a few years back and it killed my hair. I had to cut it all off cause it was fried.

Re: Spinoff to Keratin Treatment
I got it japanese straightened once in queens- it was awesome- I LOVEEEEED IT. i didnt even have to blow dry it and it was amazinggggg-- I wouldnt do it now though b/c it wouldn't hold a curl if i tried (an my hair is naturaly curly). I am going to do the keratin though!

Re: Spinoff to Keratin Treatment
it doesn't straighten your hair, it makes it WAY WAY WAY less frizzy and silky smooth
it normally takes me 45 mins to straighten my hair
im puerto rican and I have very very very curly hair literally like piles of cork screw curls that i work very hard to make go away LOL
with the Brazilian treatment, i could straighten it in 10 to 15 mins,
unlike the japenese you dont end up with pin straight hair
you still have body and versatility - but no frizz, and lots more moisture, silky without 100lbs of products and heat

I had the 24 hour one and no gunk or not washing it for 4 days I loved me hair on the first day actually after she blew it dry in like 2 mins lol...and I did it with 2 friends and she used the same on all of us and we have different color hair she sprayed it all from the same bottle. And I don't need special shampoo just sodium chloride free and sulfer free. I have tresseme and she said that was fine. She did it on my boss and it has lasted great that's why I went to this lady in particular.

i was told that the curlier your hair the longer the treatment needed, and there is less formaldehyde in the 4 day treatment. Im hispanic so it takes ALOT of work to tame my mane LOL I was looking into the 24 hr one for the next time. I was told however the 45min spray treatment was not worth the money cause it didn't last nearly as long. not sure about using tresseme, the shampoo I was given had keratin in it, supposedly to help make the treatment last longer. Hey whatever works :)

Re: Spinoff to Keratin Treatment
I got the japanese years ago in Queens and I loved it.. The only thing is that it makes your hair really flat. It took me like 5 min to do my hair it was great but im afraid my hair will fall out so i haven't done it since. It does last a long time though!!
