spinoff to suspicious

Original post by Janice

Is it bad that I hardly ever wear my rings? I use tons of gel in my hair and usually have to scrunch it during my commute, so my rings would get gross looking if I wore them. and some nights I work late, I don't want to have to fight to keep them..does everyone wear their's everyday. DH never takes his off, it does not bother him at all that I rarely wear mine

We always wear our rings .. except when washing/showering (including hair care), doing messy cleaning, or preparing raw meats.

I have curly hair .. that can go frizzy without proper styling .. but I finish my hair before even leaving the house.

Everyone's different (in many aspects) .. but I can't understand how much gel you must be using on your hair that it would muck up your rings. .. Not trying to be judgemental here .. just expressing my confusion.

It's your own choice not to wear the rings .. ultimately you have to do what's best for you .. but with marriage comes change .. and I just wonder if there is some better hair solution that would make wearing your rings possible.

And for the record .. a toothbrush and a little liquid hand soap (or toothpaste) work wonders on cleaning rings.

I think you should make the effort to wear the rings.

My dad didn't tkae his wedding band off AT ALL for 28 years until he had to for an operation.

That is so menaingful to me and that's what I believe about wedding bands. I get a big problem with my hands so I have to take my e-ring off at night, but I think I'd defintiely try hard to ALWAYS wear my wedding band and want FH to do the same. I don't think I'd let hairgel stop me..but that's a personal decision

lol I know, I don't know where all the hair gel goes...I wash my hair at night, wake up with it still wet, ususally 1/2 bottle of sebastion wet diffuse it for 20 minutes, and I swear it is still damp.. I don't have crispy hair or anything, it takes a ton of gel.

I also said I work late, and when I wait for the bus at night, I never want to be in a situation where I have to give them up. I know I can get new ones, but I love the fact that these were blessed at our wedding.

Re: spinoff to suspicious

my dad, my grandfathers, and my uncles, no one ever wore a wedding band...My mom eloped she went years without one.. I never look at other peoples rings either, ever..I am shocked when I have mine on and strangers will ask how long I have been married for. I never even think to look

ETA: what does drive my DH crazy is the amount of money I spend on hair products. I know how to clean my rings, but if I wear them, they look glazy all day and sticky at work

I hope I didn't offend you .. it actually seems like you and I have similar hair .. though different colors.

As I said .. you need to do what's best for you .. and believe me .. I understand the night thing .. my husband is very thoughtful like that .. where he will point out certain situations that I never would have thought twice about .. so I've become more aware .. and will actually turn my rings .. so the stones are in the palm of my hand .. and a plain band is exposed.

And I can agree with you on the sentimentality of the rings .. so I totally understand.

Sorry if my post came off at all like I was talking down to you.

And for the 'hair' record .. I wash my hair in the morning .. I could never deal with it if I did it at night .. and .. yes .. I do have days when it seems the dampness just does not get out of my hair .. particularly at the roots!

i don't think it's weird that you don't wear your rings. my parents NEVER wear their bands, so to me a ring really doesn't mean much. they've been together for 30 years and it has never been an issue. they wear their bands to fancy affairs but that's it. maybe it's just more of an issue for younger, recently married couples.

it's not that 'i don't want' to wear my rings, sometimes i just forget to put them on. i take them off either at night or in the morning before i get in the shower. if i am rushing around getting ready, i do sometimes forget to put them on. although DH may ask , 'why are your rings?', he is never bothered by the fact that i am not wearing them.

again, the rings are just a 'symbol' of a our marriage.
