eukenuba is made by Iams- so I would stay away from that.

For wet food I feed molly Merrick Brand Thanksgiving in a Can- it's crazy b/c it doesn't look like dog food- it looks like Chunky's soup- there are whole chunks of chicken and carrots in it! But at $2 a can it is expensive.. she gets it b/c she's four pounds!

For dry she eat's Solid Gold- I used to feed her Wellness but the bits were too big for her mouth- Solid Gold makes a version called little bits for small dogs.

I also feed Molly Stella & Chewies which is freeze dried raw beef. It's great because it's human grade raw beef, which is really great for dogs.

I use to feed them Wellness but switched to Innova. Just wanted to try something different b/c we heard good things about Innova. They love it. They are very picky about wet food. We tried Wellness, Evolve and now found Merrick and they go crazy for it. They get half a small can of wet food a day. I agree with you, Merrick uses very natural ingredients that it looks like human food.

We feed Baby Euk. I heard of the iams stories b4 but baby does good on it. FH knows all about this stuff. We tried diff kinds of foods with Baby( Eagle Pack (lamb and rice, and Holistic Select) Innova, and Diamond. We only feed Baby dry food. FH says EP has great ingrediants(human grade) as opposed to feed grade from a lot of other brands, but Baby didnt do so well on it.

I use Purina Pro Plan for puppies. After several questions to the vet, he confessed that this is what he gives his dogs. Since he sells Eukanuba right in his office but uses this brand instead, I figured he knows more than I do.

Scooby is a Maltese puppy and around his 4 or 5 month he got very fussy and wasn't eating. Turns out he was teething. Someone suggested mixing in some wet food with his dry kibbles. Not knowing better I gave him Cesar's from the supermarket. He loved this combination so much he gained two lbs. in one month. Luckily I had to go to the vet for a shot and asked that he be weighed. I was told to take him off the wet food entirely and to definitely stay away from Cesar's if I ever decided to give him canned food again. It was really hard getting him to eat anything after that, but now he is only on dry food. I see all you guys are smarter than I am - no one mentioned Cesar's but I thought I'd share what I found out anyway.

LIMom... i went to buy that b/c my new dog is already on that but when i went to buy it no pet supply store by me had it and then i asked why and i was told they try to only carry healthy dog food. (or natural, holistec). i didnt realize that the 4th ingrediant was chicken by-product.
maybe the puppy formula is different. they usually are.
just wanted to let you know in case you wanted to ask your vet about it. it obviously cant be bad if thats what he feeds, but i figured id mention just in case

Eukanuba Adult Maintenance dry dog food,
and Eukanuba Restricted Calorie Biscuits

For our cat:
Iams Original
and we mix in a Hill's Prescription diet: T/D (tooth diet) for his teeth. He's starting to get tarter, DH really doesn't want to put him under anesthesia for a cleaning because he's feline leukemia positive.
If our cat seems like he is getting a bit chubby (which hasn't been the case in quite sometime), we'll switch him off the Iams Original, and give him Eukanuba Restricted Calorie.
All the above foods are dry foods.

My cats get Wellness restricted calorie dry food and a small amount of Solid Gold wet food as a treat.

we switched them off Iams and they seem to like Wellness much better.

I find they even eat less as there is more filling ingredients in the Wellness as opposed to Iams which has a lot of crap in it.

I feed Murphy Nutro Natural Lamb & Rice and once a week I give him some Mighty Dog wet food as a treat.

I just checked and you are soooo right!! There it is, the fourth ingredient! And I thought I was a wise shopper. Thanks a lot - I appreciate you telling me this.

Now what do I buy for my puppy? I want to give him a very healthy diet as I hope to have him around for a really long time.

Kathy...did you give your dog Eukanuba when he was a puppy? He is a Maltese and will probably be under 8 lbs. as an adult, so I need small kibbles.

I really appreciate this thread.

As you know I have a chihuahua.
I feed her Solid Gold dry food- it is very good quality and they make a version called little bits for little dogs... Molly loves it.

Chloe gets Nutro, the indoor cat formula. She eats the dry but occasionally as a treat I will give her the wet...but it has whole pieces....same brand!

She used to get Iams but, her skin was getting dry so I switched to this food that has more natural oils and vitamins. It has actually worked...no more flakes!

LIMom.... no problem, i was alittle bit surprised too. If you want a reallllly good food I'd go with Wellness. be sure to mix it in gradually so that your baby doesnt get the runs

Re: Spinoff....what brand do you feed your pet??? and wet or dry?

Thanks Kathy and Lolita....I have half a large container of ProPlan. Do you think I should finish it (about 4 lbs. left) or buy a new brand and mix half and half til it's all used up?

lolita4life Posted:

Re: Spinoff....what brand do you feed your pet??? and wet or dry?

i'd wait until you get to like 2lbs of the pro-plan then mix it...
