Splurge vs. Skimp...

I was just going over my budget and I thought this would be an interesting question. What are you splurging on for you wedding and what are your skimping on??

I am going to splurge on the favors because I'd like to have something memorable and unigue

I am definitely skimping on invitations and doing my own makueup - no limos

Everything else is pretty average w/what we are spending...

ETA: no limos either!

hmmm splurge vs. skimp hahaha well i am def splurging on photographer and albums and such and my cake with some upgrades. i am also debating on splurging for my fh's attire at the wedding, I am thinking about buying him a three piece suit instead of just renting a tux and a nice tie possibly a burberry.
I am skimping on my invites because they just end up in the garbage.

We are splurging on extra food for the reception. As for skimping - FH wanted a rediculous set of cars for the limos (he is a car freak), so we have definitely calmed down on that (it would have been like $9k for the cars ). I seriously had a heart attack when he told me that. So yeah, no more insane cars...the only one will be ours - the Rolls Royce Phantom Also, we are skimping a bit on the E-Party by only inviting our family and bridal party/groomsmen to keep the cost down.

ETA: We are not doing limos because we are getting married at the reception hall.

What kind of favors are you doing Stacey???

I'm thinking of getting Martini glasses that have our name and date on them - filling them with pink m&ms - if the engrave ones are gonna be too much we may just get plain ones - I still have to see

Michaels and AC Moore sometimes offer classes on etching on the glass. My friend took a class there so she has offered to etch our wedding flutes. It might help you save money. I want to take a class there to learn how to make jewelry for the bridal party. If I see the class for the etching I will let you know.

I really thought i would be skimmping on almost everything but I have been splurging on everything

I guess my invites - they are kits from michaels and were $26 each so i saved money there

Hmm... I am not too far along in the process but so far...

Skimping... Invites, also all the DIY extras that I want to do but am not

Splurging... Really only my RH... keeping everything else low key and average or below average in cost

Re: Splurge vs. Skimp...

hmm i dont really feel like im paying too much for anything ive gotten so far, well maybe the linens. its not that much but more than i saw myself paying so maybe thats my splurge.

skimping on the flowers...going pretty basic and not doing tons of decor in places people see for 5 seconds. they die anyway.
guess its in the same boat as invites ending up in the garbage except that invites are at least seen for like 6 weeks....its the detail about your wedding your guests see for the longest

Splurge: extra food at the reception

Skimp: the invitations

I dont really feel like I splurged on anything- we stayed either within or on budget with things

Re: Splurge vs. Skimp...

splurging on invites. i know every1 is skimping on it.. but i truly feel that the invite sets the tone for your wedding. so im def splurging on those.

this is also a trick question because... some brides spend 1$ on favors while other spend 30$ a favor...

so for the bride spending 1-2$ a favor.. if she spends 7$ thats 'splurging' but to the person thats going to spend like 30$ a favor.. 7$ is nothing. know what i mean?

def 'splurging' on invites, hair, make up,shoes.. basially everything for myself and gifts to others.

my vendors so far havent cost that much, but again, im also not having a huge wedding.

its alll relativee

Re: Splurge vs. Skimp...

Ummmm I don't think I've skimped on anything yet. I've actually been almost OVER budget on everything so far!

But I'd say we're definitely splurging on entertainment - getting a band instead of a dj, because that would've saved us a couple thousand. But, my dad and his parents REALLY wanted us to get a band, and my parents are footing the bill.

As for skimping, I probably will on invites. I don't think I need to spend an outrageous amount on invites that people will just throw out one day anyway. Also my cake. My RH provides a cake, so I'm just going with that one. I'm doing a Viennese, so there's going to be PLENTY of desserts besides the cake.

We skimped on the flower and got a great deal so I don't really feel like we skimped. Simple invitations. Attire we are not going crazy on.

Re: Splurge vs. Skimp...

well, as soon as we booked our RH we were already over our intended budget...so that is the definate splurge. and b/c of that, i am trying to watch the $$ on everything else....but we already splurged on video...

idk.....we are still early in the process...so ill let ya know how this works at the end. lol
