Start time for a Fridat night wedding.

Hey girls,

I have decided to have my wedding at Russos on the Bay, its on a Friday night in September however the start time is 8:30PM. Is that to late to start a cocktail hour or do you think it gives the guests enough time to get there if they went to work that day? Im sooo confused, HELP!!

Well i think that a start time of 7/730pm is more then fine. 830 is ok but it seems like dinner will be pretty late probably about 1030 ish

I am having a friday night wedding and they usually start at 7pm CH and 8pm Reception. We are have the vienesse hour so it will finsih around 1pm and then the afterparty at the hotel. We are getting married on a holiday weekend though so I think most poeple will either get out of work early that friday or not work at all, so i think the time is fine. Plus we are getting married at the RH, which starts at 6:30 and the CH right after

I've gone to Russo's for a friday night wedding and my advice is, if you can try to move the time earlier do it. With a CH so late, the bride and groom didn't even make an entrance until about 10. and to be perfectly honest main course was served close to midnight and a lot of guests were leaving right after. I don't want to make you nervous but it is a long day for people, especially if they worked all day. I think you're better off having it earlier, a lot of people can cut out of work early on fridays anyway and close family and friends will probably take the day off. Hope this helps!

we are having our wedding on a friday night. the ceremony is 7:30 and 8 o clock CH which isnt so far off from yours. I think its fine. My guests (who I have spoken to) were all excited and fine with it!

My Ceremony is at 6 CH 6:30 Reception 8-12. It may be a little late...but it's a Friday so it will give people more time to get ready

I don't think it's late- my cocktail hour is at 8PM on a Friday night. I wanted to give people time to get home from work to get decked out.

exactly! Friday is tough because people either complain that its too early and not enough time or too late! ya can't win! pick what works best for you and enjoy!

dont worry - most likely the people who would leave early are going leave early regardless of what time the party ends KWIM? the important people (your parents, bridal party, close friends and family) will be there until the end - at least thats how i see it.....

Im having a Friday night wedding too...

Originally we were having CH at 8:00, but we changed it to 7:00 because of pictures and sunlight. So now we have Ceremony 6:30, CH 7:00 Reception 8-12

I would think 7 or 8 to start cocktail hour is fine. I've been to a friday wedding that started at 7:30 and it was honestly perfect. Just enough time to get home shower/change and head to the hall. It was 7:30-8:30 CT hour then 830-12:30 reception. It ended just in time too b/c people were beat. HTH

We went to a Friday reception that had the CH at 8:30pm - dinner didn't even start to be placed on the table until 11pm We were so wiped out (FH had to work that day) that we ended up leaving right after dinner
But I guess it all depends on the people coming - some prep for the party and it doesn't matter what time it starts! Us on the other hand...we're old fogies

Our Ceremony is at 4pm but the RH would only start our CH at 8:30.... it sort of stinks cuz I have a ton of OOT guests... so I guess they will have to do something for 2 hours...

However, I do love this timing situation because we can (hopefully) get a lot of our photos out of the way since we have use of the RH 2 hours prior.. so an hour of photos at the Church and a couple of hours at the RH and we should be good to enjoy (some) of our CH

I've been to Friday night weddings.. I'm a partier so it doesn't bother me (the hour), but I did notice a lot of people leaving early -

Oh well... it is what it is.

I'm having the same issue!!!

My CH starts at 8pm and the reception is 9-130am!!! we were worried that it's goona be too late for some people. we were concerned about the grandparents driving home late at night and just overall being a long night for other guest that are working that day.
Probably won't need an after party. are only other option was doing a 1pm CH and the reception over by 6pm. Didn't like that idea.

My cocktail hour is starting at 6:30, ceremony at the church will be 4:30. It's a little early for a Friday but we have mostly OOT ppl so people will have to take off work anyway.

The owner of my RH gave me some wise words- you can't please everyone, and it doesn't matter what time or day your wedding is, the most important people to you that you want to be there will do what they have to do to be there. I keep reminding myself that :)
