Started looking?

Started looking?

Hi all! I'm new here and impatiently waiting for my engagement party next month, not only because I think it'll be a blast, but because once its over and done with I can start looking at venues!! We're thinking about 2016 and I'm getting super anxious that by the time we start looking everywhere will be booked (which I know is ridiculous). We're hoping to find a place that holds one wedding a day in either March or October and I've already made a list of 15 places to go visit. I guess you could say I'm a good planner ;D

But when did you all start looking for places on Long Island? I feel like in other areas you wouldn't need to look 2 years in advance, but since Long Island is Long Island....

Yay another 2016 bride! Welcome! I am getting married May 2016 and I started looking at the end of April/May this year right after I got engaged. I wanted to be able to have my choice of where I could get married and the day because I'm a little picky! lol

I don't think it is ever too early! We are getting married next year in May and booked this past May.

I know there are a couple of 2016 brides on here already. If you start looking now, you may even get to lock in 2014 prices, since the price per person tends to go up.

It's never too early. I wanted October and by the time 8 weeks had passed since our engagement, our venue was booked solid. I say go for it!

Ahhh, you guys are making me more anxious!!! Hahaha. I wish we had started looking immediately after we got engaged (in May) but we don't currently live on Long Island so its difficult to get there to look at places, plus every time we were home for the weekend we were doing engagement party prep. I can't wait to start being able to look...

And I agree with okellies, when I booked most venues didn't have their 2016 prices out yet so I got locked in with a 2015 price! Only one venue (Mansion at West Sayville) had 2016 prices out back in May.

Where are you looking to go? I have a few quotes if you want them!

A few places I asked for quotes from also gave me 2014-2015 prices and guaranteed them if we booked soon, so that was great! And thank you, I would love some quotes if you have them!!

We've looked at these places and gotten quotes: Glen Cove Mansion, Bourne Mansion, TimberPoint Mansion, Coindre Hall, The Green Building (Brooklyn), de Seversky Mansion, Vineyard Caterers and Raphael Vineyards

But these places wouldn't give me quotes without making an appointment:
The Woodlands
Fox Hollow
The Somerley
Inn at New Hyde Park
Flowerfield
Westbury Manor
Watermill Caterers

(I told you, I'm going a little overboard on the pre-planning haha)

The only quotes I have that are on your list are for Timber Point, which you already have! haha

I loved that venue! That was my 2nd choice and West Sayville Mansion was my 3rd. We just fell in love with Bellport Country Club and what they offered for the price was amazing.

Oh boo! Haha. I'm not too enamored with the pictures of TimberPoint but I like it enough (and the price) to go see it in person. I think its a little too small by pictures. How was it in person?

Yay another 2016 bride! My wedding is in May of 2016 and I already have my venue booked (because I was also afraid that my choice would be booked for my date). A few of the places I went to already had my date booked so I'm glad I looked early. Also, I see that you are interested in either a March or October wedding. While I was searching I found that March was usually cheaper than October (since october is still considered prime season) so if you have a tight budget March would definitely be a better option.

I'm booked at The Watermill. I'm not sure what day you're looking for but I can send you my quote for a Saturday afternoon wedding.

Re: Started looking?

Yeah I was originally looking at October exclusively and then realized that the prices were a little... er.. VERY high. I'm still keeping October in mind and getting prices on the off chance something comes up that's affordable but I don't have too much hope. I thought about May, too, but the prices were the same as October so, March came in! But now I'm also wondering if November would be cheaper and if the weather might be better than a Long Island March.....

Anyhoo, I would super appreciate your quote for the Watermill! Thank you! We are very open to either a Friday or Saturday at any time -- we're more set on getting a great place than the exact day we want. I also only just added the Watermill to my list today -- can you tell me what about it you liked?

The price is what drew me in for Timber Point and West Sayville (especially West Sayville it was so cheap!)

Timber Point is a little bit bigger in person than what the pictures show, however, if it is cold or bad weather I think the room for the cocktail hour was a little bit small. But I love the old mansion feel and this definitely had it!

We started last October and getting married this November. Varies for all people but never too early to start.

I would love your quote for the Somerely!!! I love love love the pictures of it and I'm so upset they wouldn't give me a quote unless I visited. I also wouldn't mind your quotes for the other two because, hey, why not? I might like those places! Thank you so much :D

I booked my venue 888 days out from my date. There's nothing wrong with looking and booking early. The best part was having our pick of whatever date we wanted and most offered 2014 or 2015 prices for 2016 dates :) good luck!
