started our childbirth classes!

started our childbirth classes!

I loved it! I love the information! I feel so empowered!

It's a great deal that it's a nurse that used to work at my doctor's practice, and now is private teaching. So the class is in my dr. office which is like 5 minutes from my house. There are only 4 couples, so it was really intimate and nice. We are the farthest along, but the 'youngest in pregnancy' is 27 weeks - so we got to skip a lot of the basics and move to 27 weeks and progress from there. We started some breathing techniques (she teaches only lamaze though....no bradley work), imagery, focal points, that kind of thing. Of course me and my husband were the breathing champs!

Next week we have to wear comfy clothing so I guess we are going to do some excercises and stuff...the week after we go to the hospital...we'll be covering breastfeeding, pain medication - tons of stuff. I am really excited about it and highly suggest it to all of the expecting mommies!

Oh and she gave us juice and cheese and crackers....so clearly it was a win-win situation for me!

Sounds fun! How far in advance did you have to sign up??? I asked my Dr for information at my Thanksgiving visit and he looked at me strange and said it was early but gave me the info. I guess it depends on where you live...but even my book told me to ask!

I thinkI signed up back in October? No reason not to sign up - I mean then you have your place. I also wanted to pay before the holidays hit so I wanted to get it out of the way early.

I AM glad though that we are due so soon....I would try to find a class that ends kind of around a month or so before you are due. This way the stuff is fresh in your mind.

I am finishing up mine. Late as usual. I find it to be very informative.

We have 2 classes to go and boy oh boy am I more scared now than before... I'm the opposite of you, Jenny... I mean I do feel empowered, but now I know what's going to happen (or at least if there are no complications) and it sort of freaks me out.

One of my graduate professors specializes in hypnosis... he was giving me techniques last night on how to brave this experience through hypnosis... Guess it's the power of the mind.

But I'm glad your enjoying your child-birthing classes! It is fun to get together with other couples who are expecting around the same time as you...

I am glad that you both like the class. You can also purchase a book on Bradley and read it on your own. The more prepared you are, the better. And free food- what a nice bonus!

Sign up as early as possible. We got closed out of the one at my hospital (and I and a medical student there who is going into ob-gyn! They were completely unaccomadating). Anyway, we are going to the 92nd street Y instead- starting 1/8. Can't wait now, you ladies have gotten me excited about it.

YES! It was grape juice!!! I had to stop myself from having seconds. I have stayed away from juice this whole pregnancy because I am obsessed with it and can drink WAY too much and it's loaded with sugar....

My husband was like....nobody else got more juice Jen, you dont' need it....
