Starting to Freak Out!!!!!

So my mom has never met FH's mom and I have been dreading the day that it would happen. My mom has the mouth of a truck driver and FH's mom doesn't curse and FH and his brother and sister don't curse in front of her.

I'm going to the house tomorrow to clean and unpack my kitchen boxes and my mom said that she would come and help me. FH's mom just emailed me asking if it would be ok if she stopped by to see how everthything looks-I can't say no to her. So she is going to stop by and she will be meeting my mom

Good luck! I'm sure everything will be fine. They have to meet eventually anyhow right??? At least this way it will be on neutral territory

don't worry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i thought my mom and FMIL were soooooooooo opposite, and then the night we got engaged (they'd only really met/hung out one other time in 3 yrs) they got along sooooo well!!!!

my mom also is very sarcastic, dry humor, truck driver mouth, so i kinda jus said to her 'hey, dont be offended, but maybe feel out the situation before u get completely comfortable' and she was like 'NO SH*T im not F*Ckin stupid!' LOL

but then FMIL started cursing up a storm too, so that turned out well LOL

but jus let ur mom kno that she may be sensitive to cursing so try to sensor herself til they kno each other better...will she be offended by that?

In a way it will be good cuz it's on neutral ground and not at one of their houses.

Like someone said above, it has to happen sooner or later.

i think so your mom isn't caught off guard let her know the FMIL will be coming by to see your house.
also if your mom is easy to talk to maybe you can mention that FMIL is more reserved then she is.
also don't forget opposites attract so maybe they will get along well.

oh my god Teri... my mother is Italian, why her thick accent... and holds nothing back. she has the mouth of a truck driver as well. some of you have met her. i was soooooo scared to have her meet Jackie's mom.

but when we went out to eat dinner, my mother was on her best behavior, and it was weird because it was like a different person. since then, they have been together, and my mom has been herself, and it's totally cool. jackie's mom thinks she's funny.

i wouldnt worry so much, because honestly... let's say they HATED each otehr... would you call off the wedding???? lol

I don't think you should worry to much if they are both willing to be supportive with your moving i think they will get along just fine!! good luck TERI

Don’t worry too much, I am sure your mom understands that this is important to you! I have the same situation, my mom was raised in the Bronx in a large Italian family. They curse a lot and talk about lots of “sensitive” topics. FMIL is from the South, she is VERY proper and reserved. When she met me mom, she LOVED her! You may be surprised, I was. Of course, my mom is always on her best behavior when she is around my future inlaws, but of course it is who she is, and some things naturally come out. I will cringe sometimes when she says something out of line but FMIL doesn’t seem to think much of it. She even loosens up a bit when she is around my mom!

i;m sure it wont be too bad. they probably will both be nervous anyway...it will be fine! dont get yourself worked up about it
