Starting to think about DJ's- any suggestions or warnings?

I have had so much of my time wasted by bad photographers, I do not want to repeat the same mistakes with DJ's. Anyone have any advice, or input. Who should I avoid, who is too expensive, who is not worth the money? My biggest fear is ending up with a DJ that is just plain obnoxious.

Starting to think about DJ`s- any suggestions or warnings?

If you are looking for the exception rather than the typical, I suggest you call Music by Michael. His personality and style are very different than most of the DJ''''s we met. He isn''''t inexpensive though, so if you want to keep costs down you may want to look elsewhere.

Starting to think about DJ`s- any suggestions or warnings?

I just finished looking into DJ's. I would suggest go in know what you are looking for...meaning length of time, lighting (this adds to the cost), cocktail hour music, giveaways, type of music you want to hear, emcee involvement.... I choose Spin Around Sound. We liked his style and professionalism. I also heard a lot of good about them on this board. I also looked at Invitation to Dance and Starlight Express. I liked Invitation to Dance. All were priced in the $1500-1600 price range for a middle of the road package. Also scroll down some...there has been alot of conversation lately on te board on this topic.

Starting to think about DJ`s- any suggestions or warnings?

I am using Get In Tune Productions for my wedding in June. The DJ offers different packages. My boyfriend has family in the DJ business and I wouldn't use them. Get In Tune is reasonable but i don't know your budget. The owner Glen is very nice and personable. He helps you and shows you examples of his weddings that he has done. He cares about what he does and not just for the money which made me feel good. I know the music is one of the most important parts of a wedding.

Starting to think about DJ`s- any suggestions or warnings?

hi I am using In The Mix for my May wedding, and they are really nice, and a great company. I have seen them many times before and they have always had the dance floor packed, and they even offer all kinds of cool extras that I had never seen like digital imaging, and a wedding on a cloud. Everyone there is always so helpful. They have a website its www.inthemixdj.com.

Starting to think about DJ`s- any suggestions or warnings?

We are using Tom Gordon. There has been a lot of talk about him on the WC local NYC board. He used to work in radio, and has a great voice. He is the emcee. Then he has a DJ with him as well as a vocalist. The vocalist sings during dinner to tracks that Tom records in his studio prior to your wedding. He has this cool digital instrument thing that can replicate the sound of any instrument in the world. We liked him because he said that he'll spend time getting to know us before the wedding, so that he can meet our needs. He'll be as involved as we want, or just play music and emcee major things (entrance, cake cutting, etc.) We are going to go the second route. We are both pretty quiet, and don't want someone shouting at us or our guests during the night. We spent about 2 hours with him, seeing his equipment, getting an idea of the quality of sound, etc. He is extremely friendly, and does a lot of weddings on LI. He'd worked our facility before, and knew exactly where he'd be set up, where the entrance was, etc. He charges about $2,000 to do the reception. He does not include any giveaways, but will give you the name of a place you can go to buy them wholesale yourself. If you are interested, his phone number is 1-800-464-7789. He books up pretty quick.

RE: Get In Tune Productions!!

We saw them at a Showcase and was truly amazed! Loved the idea of live drummer with DJ. The MC's were also very good and not overbearing. Plus Glen guaranteed the dj & mc I wanted, unlike some of the other company's(I've heard some horror stories girl's). Another reason is Glen never annoyed us with calls and letters soon as we became engaged. We are so excited with our choice!!

Starting to think about DJ`s- any suggestions or warnings?

I am using Get in Tune Productions. DJ Glen came highly recommended to me by a close friend who attended a wedding that Glen did. Glen was recommended due to his music choices, his personality as an MC and his ability to get people at the wedding up and moving. After meeting with Glen I knew he was the one for me, he was not a high pressure salesman and had alot to offer his clients. I also chose to use him for music for my ceremony and cocktail hour which he worked into the price at a very reasonable rate.
