i used to wake never be bale to sleep EVER so i would wake my parents up every hour to run down stairs and they would always tell me to wait till5 then wake them up... so when they started getting sick of that happening every year they gave in to letting me have my stocking in my room so i could waste some time opening it and THEN wake them up!! hahaha im in for it with my own kids

i am totally stealing that for my kids!!!!

its all yours it worked like a charm i would get so tired id go back to sleep for a little while their plan worked.. or i would watch the rest of the CHristmas story 24 hour marathon.. we watch it every year opening gifts. and iget MAD if they change the channel!

since i am broke this year that is what i am getting my nieces and nephews - one per family LOL I found these DVDs that have like three classic Christmas movies on them each!!!!

OMG- My sister and brother still do that!

They wake up at the butt crack of dawn and bang on everyones doors yelling PRESENTS!!!!

Its pretty scary being woken up to that..lol

Oh, and he is 12, but my sister is 27

Then we get stocking stuffers to hold us over until ecveryone gets up. And we have a big breakfast.

My grandma used to live w/ us, but moved a few blocks away now so she now sleeps over xmas eve so its sorta a new tradition.

OH- and Bailys on xmas eve is a must!!

That's excellent. I'm the same way when I point things out to my cat, she just stares at me of course and FH is like

But I'm sure Brutus loves the lights.

A few things I want to do, that I've always done in my house are:

1-Decorate early enough so that there is enough time to enjoy all of the decorations.

2-Bake tons and tons of cookies....all different kinds....make trays for relatives and coworkers, who look forward to them every year.

3-We NEVER woke up at the crack and woke up our parents to open gifts.....we wanted to prolong it as long as possible and savor every moment of it lol I want to do what we did.....the kids wake up and sit together in the living room, all exciting....peeking in to see if Mom and Dad are up yet and eventually waking them up from opening and closing the door lol Then, Mom always makes breakfast and we all sit as a family and eat, with Christmas music on.....then, present time! We always seemed to take turns opening gifts and showed them off to each other. Present opening always lasted forever!

4-Drive around weeks before Christmas, with Christmas music on, and look at all the lights....hot chocolate in hand!

5-Keep a traditional/Italian Christmas dinner....tons of courses, right down to the chestnuts roasting!!!

There are so many more, for other holidays too! I plan to keep them all alive and make up my own too!

I feel all warm and fuzzy..I seriously am going to make some hot chocolate in a little while.

I'm definately going to have a huge collection of Christmas movies to watch from like Thanksgiving on..I love them all!!

I keep 106.7 on from the moment they start playing Christmas songs until the day after Christmas..I'll definatly keep doing that...I never tire of Christmas songs!!

I can't wait to drive around with our whole family looking at all the Christmas decorations while playing Christmas songs..

I want to bake cookies, make gingerbread houses..etc..

I hope to be able to have both our familes over our house for Christmas..

Once me and FH get our own place I want to buy one Christmas village house thingy each year ..and keep building until we have a whole village with a church, ice skatings rink..etc...

oOo I can't wait to take our kids to see The Rockettes Christmas show...

Hmm.. there's probably a million things I want to do..I LOVE Christmas..I can't wait now!

When we were kids, my sister and I and my two cousins (BM's) would sit on my aunts bed and watch Christmas Eve on Sesame Street Every year now mind you I was one of those kids that was not really interested in TV or Sesame street but I loved watching that every Christmas Eve. I will definitely try to get my kids into that tradition

Re: Starting your OWN family traditions??

This is like the best thread ever! lol.. I love hearing all about your traditions and fun stories.. i'm def. gonna steal some of them!!!

Most of the traditions we have now we share with my serogate neice and nephew aka., FG and RB. They are FH's cousins and we're all very close so we always do fun stuff together for the holidays and i def. plan on keeping it up with our kids!!

St. Patricks day:
Thier Mom (my Matron of honor) sets a leprechaun trap every year to try and catch one. Her kids love it!!! especially her oldest son. I've been doing it with her the past few years. We get a shoe box or something like it.. and a whole bunch of green decor.. we stand the box up on a stick of some kind to set it up like a trap.. and decorate the table with green lights, and shamrocks..etc. Under the box we put something gold there to attract the lil sucker.. and then we hit the sack... and in the morning the gold is always gone.. but we never catch one.. but he leaves tons of cool stuff for the kids... so they are happy even if we don't get one.. hee hee. (i talk like we actually think we're getting one.. like it's not us taking the gold when the kids go to sleep..lmaooo)
So this is something i'll continue to do with my own children for sure because it's def. a fun tradition!

For Halloween/Fall.. we go upstate every year.. and we do pumpkin picking... halloween festivals.. antique shopping..spooky walks.. pumpkin ice cream..and anything else we can find that's fall/halloween related. Last year we stayed in norwhich and watched thier halloween parade and went to thier halloween festival..and even did a halloween scavenger hunt around the town.. it was a blast!!! We look forward to a fall get away every year... it's a really nice way to enjoy the season! The kids also wake up on halloween morning to find a something from 'The Great Pumpkin'...

For Christmas.. since we still live with my mom (yea we're broke and the way this wedding is adding up it doesn't look like we're moving out any time soon ..lol) We usually have the family here.. but i'd like to have my own house and have both his family and mine come to our home for the holidays.. that would be awesome!!!
I could go on and on..but i won't...
i mean seriously.. i'm trying really hard not to..lmaooo

Re: Starting your OWN family traditions??

I went to Salem, MA once as a teen and loved it. Ever since I've been with FH we've wanted to go but I was always in school and couldn't get the time off from work or school. So it would be nice to do that or go on a trip to new england in the fall.

For Christmas we play background holiday music during the season.

Bake lots of cookies for Christmas Eve and Christmas.

I remember sitting up late with my brothers wrapping presents with christmas music blasting. Only when I was younger I wasn't wrapping presents because I was too young, I was just hanging out with my two older brothers because I thought they were neater than play-doh.

Aww- all of your traditions sound so nice. My family normally hosts x-mas eve and they cook every type of fish known to man & then we drink and exchange gifts. Being that FH family lives in NC we started to split the holidays.

Very warm feeling to share with family & friends when you have a tradition.

Re: Starting your OWN family traditions??

Last nigth the FH and I started our own family tradition. We hosted the Yom Kippur break fast at our house! Everyone loved it and said ''okay guys, this is your holiday now...we'll be back next year ' Whats great is that our house is smack in the middle of my FH's aunt , uncle and cousins and also in the middle of my aunt, uncle and cousins.

It felt so great having everyone over in our new house, it made it really feel like home...but of course like every jewish woman I cooked way to much and have a ton of left overs, that I'll be nibbling at all day!

ha ha.. i cant wait to host the jewish holidays...

my own tradition... for the challa.. i HAVE to either deflate it while it is thawing... or if we buy a store bought one it still MUST have a finger hole in it!!

my family was never big on holidays... so i cant wait to start my own with FH.
