Last nigth the FH and I started our own family tradition. We hosted the Yom Kippur break fast at our house! Everyone loved it and said ''okay guys, this is your holiday now...we'll be back next year ' Whats great is that our house is smack in the middle of my FH's aunt , uncle and cousins and also in the middle of my aunt, uncle and cousins.

It felt so great having everyone over in our new house, it made it really feel like home...but of course like every jewish woman I cooked way to much and have a ton of left overs, that I'll be nibbling at all day!

ha ha.. i cant wait to host the jewish holidays...

my own tradition... for the challa.. i HAVE to either deflate it while it is thawing... or if we buy a store bought one it still MUST have a finger hole in it!!

my family was never big on holidays... so i cant wait to start my own with FH.

just nibbled at some challah myself!! Kugel and Quiche too....boy I better work out hard tonight!!!

FH dresses up at santa every year for all the kids in his family on xmas eve...each little kid gets a little gift from him..and then he gives out gag gifts for the adults its hilarious...thankfully our familys dont live too far from each other so last year we went to his family first for all of this and then drove to my families (where he dressed as santa for my cousins- who were sooooo excited bc santa never came over before) haha

as of now we split holidays...one family we go for dinner and the other for dessert...but i cant wait until we have a house and can have everyone come to us

I don't know what we're going to do but I'm excited about that. Since we won't have kids right away we'll be traveling to our parents and families houses for the holidays. I do want to have Thanksgiving at our house though next year.

This is like the best thread ever! lol.. I love hearing all about your traditions and fun stories.. i'm def. gonna steal some of them!!!

Most of the traditions we have now we share with my serogate neice and nephew aka., FG and RB. They are FH's cousins and we're all very close so we always do fun stuff together for the holidays and i def. plan on keeping it up with our kids!!

St. Patricks day:
Thier Mom (my Matron of honor) sets a leprechaun trap every year to try and catch one. Her kids love it!!! especially her oldest son. I've been doing it with her the past few years. We get a shoe box or something like it.. and a whole bunch of green decor.. we stand the box up on a stick of some kind to set it up like a trap.. and decorate the table with green lights, and shamrocks..etc. Under the box we put something gold there to attract the lil sucker.. and then we hit the sack... and in the morning the gold is always gone.. but we never catch one.. but he leaves tons of cool stuff for the kids... so they are happy even if we don't get one.. hee hee. (i talk like we actually think we're getting one.. like it's not us taking the gold when the kids go to sleep..lmaooo)
So this is something i'll continue to do with my own children for sure because it's def. a fun tradition!

For Halloween/Fall.. we go upstate every year.. and we do pumpkin picking... halloween festivals.. antique shopping..spooky walks.. pumpkin ice cream..and anything else we can find that's fall/halloween related. Last year we stayed in norwhich and watched thier halloween parade and went to thier halloween festival..and even did a halloween scavenger hunt around the town.. it was a blast!!! We look forward to a fall get away every year... it's a really nice way to enjoy the season! The kids also wake up on halloween morning to find a something from 'The Great Pumpkin'...

For Christmas.. since we still live with my mom (yea we're broke and the way this wedding is adding up it doesn't look like we're moving out any time soon ..lol) We usually have the family here.. but i'd like to have my own house and have both his family and mine come to our home for the holidays.. that would be awesome!!!
I could go on and on..but i won't...
i mean seriously.. i'm trying really hard not to..lmaooo

that is the BEST thing EVER for St. pattys.. my moms side is irish and we always had GREEN EVERYTHING.. green mashed potatos, green home made irish soda bread, green beer/soda... green EVERYTHING... (made for some interesting BM's..LOL TMI) but thats all we would do so i looooove the idea of the trap im totally STEALING THAT ONE!!! thanks!

Re: Starting your OWN family traditions??

We love traditions and have already started some. We will be living in CT and every X-MAs Eve some of his family come up and and have dinner. My FH cooks a huge meal and we plan on having more.

He also wants to go cut down a X-Mas tree but we just never seem to have time, but maybe we'll start that to.

Just a cute little idea my parents used to do for Easter. They would use baby powder and make little bunny feet all through out the house and coming up to my bed. I used to get soooo excited that the bunny came to visit until I got older and I sniffed the floor and said 'mom it smells like powder'

Re: Starting your OWN family traditions??

every year we go to Martin Viette and Hicks to get a 'family ornament' that we pick out together and write the year on the bottom in silver or gold. We have a late lunch or early dinner and then go to Historic Bethpage for a candlelight walk through the village and hot cider.
Since we got engaged on 12/22 and FH took me and my son to see Annie the next day, we decided the 3 of us will see some sort of Chrismas-y show every year on 12/23.
Thanksgiving morning, we all watch the parade in our pj's and I bake Granola pie for Thanksgiving dessert.
The night before Easter we color eggs.
At midnight on NYE, we eat 12 grapes, 1 for each month of the new year and make 12 wishes.
Every labor day weekend we go upstate w/ FH's family to their hunting house. we light a big fire in the pit and make s'mores. another night, we go for soft-serve ice cream and always spend one day in Cooperstown and take a picture of the whole family in front of Double Day Field.
