Definitely. They were trying to determine if the high winds we're having had anything to do with it.

At least one person was killed and several passengers were injured this afternoon when a Staten Island-bound ferry slammed into the dock in the St. George terminal.
Rescuers have pulled one person from the water and are working to assist others. City officials said there were reports of many injuries.
The Department of Transportation confirmed the accident, but could provide nothing further. Ferry service has been suspended.

Re: Staten Island Ferry Crash
I heard 12.
Did anyone else hear that the driver of the ferry jumped ship after the accident and went home to try to kill himself with a BB Gun?

Re: Staten Island Ferry Crash
1010 WINS is running the story. I heard it on the way home from work at 7 p.m. 10 were confirmed dead. Many lost limbs, but are still alive.
It hits home in a sense for me. I spent three years working down at the Battery Maritime Bldg at the Manhattan side of the Ferry, as an engineer on the reconstruction job going on there. Part of my job was to do a passenger flow analysis, so I used to ride all the ferries, literally count the passengers and run estimates on how wide the walk ways should be and such for the new design.
The only good thing is that it happened at 3:20 or so, not full peak rush hour, and it was one of their smaller boats that hold 3500 people. Their biggest boats hold up to 6000. Still such a tragedy!!
from msnbc: WNBC reported that one of the ferry’s two captains jumped ship after the crash and tried to kill himself at his home on Staten Island. He was being treated at St. Vincent’s Hospital, where his condition was not released. Unconfirmed reports said he slit his wrists and shot himself with a BB gun.
