How do you REALLY feel about this? Are you one? Do you think that women should be in the workforce and not at home?

Oh my god - on a somewhat related note:
has anyone ever seen the show 'Jon & Kate plus eight'? FH and watch it all the time...it is like watching a train wreck!

Re: stay at home moms
I personally could not be a stay at home mom because I do enjoy working. My mom was a stay at home mom until I was 10 and my sister was 3. She went back to work because of financial reasons. I think it's harder being a working parent and raising children. After work your paying job ends, but you still need to take care of your family and home.

I dont think anything that offensive was said on this thread at all. I disagree with certain opinions but I cant blame the people that hold those opinions because I felt the same way before I had a child.

Re: stay at home moms
Im a stay at home mom and ill say its hard as h*ll lol....you never get a break you always have to be on duty its definitely harder than working a job but it does have its benefits and i wouldnt trade it for the world. I get to watch my girl grow up and teach her right and wrong and all the fun things i wouldnt want a stranger experiencing it and telling me about it when i get home at night. Im free to shop when i want make appointments when need be. The reason i got to stay home is because my job would have been paying for day care i did not have an awesome money making job i think that everyones situation is unique but i think if you can stay home then do it its really rewarding!

I TOTALLY agree and feel the exact same way. I have two sisters who are stay at home moms, and one sister who works and has two little kids at home. The sister who works is exhausted and constantly feeling guilty and struggling with balancing work and life. And my sisters who do stay home would never and have never said that being a stay at home mom is harder than what my other sister is doing.
I also agree that I don't think I could stay home either, but I don't think i'll know that for sure until I have kids. I know either way that I won't be staying home with my kids. My mom worked and we were raised by my aunt and grandmother. If I'm lucky my kid will be fortunate enough to have a family member watch him/her.

Re: stay at home moms
I couldnt do it- I need a focus like work. i work from home now so I will have the best of both worlds when I have kids b/c i have an income and can be home for my kids (althought i DO have to keep regular work hours and have quotas)
I'm sure its a constant 'job' being a parent, but for that reason, i would think it would be harder to work a job and have to answer to a boss all day and then come home after 8 hrs and answer to your kids (so to speak)

Believe it or not I am happier being a working parent. I have my job during the day and by the time I am heading home I miss my little girl so much I could just burst. Being home with her was nice, but it is like being with any other person all day every day...sometimes they get on your nerves. Now that I work I try to make every minute that we are together quality time from the moment I get in the door.

Re: stay at home moms
This is a great thread. I find it very sad that so many people want to be stay at home mothers, but can't afford to do it financially. I hope I can.

Well, I will say that b/c my mom stayed home with me I was exposed to culture that I certainly wouldn't have experienced in a day care. We saw plays, went to museums, went to eat at all kinds of interesting restaurants... but I have a feeling this isn't really the norm.
I had the same experience growing up. I didn't even go to preschool bc my mom taught me everything I would've learned.
This is a tough decision to make as a mother. Do I throw away the 6 years of college I worked so hard for to stay at home? But how can i say that I am 'throwing away' something bc i want to stay home and raise my child? On LI it's impossible to give my child all of those great experiences on one salary.
I have to work....though I wish I could be the mom mine was and spend that time with my children. I dread the day I pick my child up from day care, moms, FMIL house and hear, 'she said her first word!'
