STICKY INLAW QUESTION

STICKY INLAW QUESTION

Question, from my dad actually.
My dad is doing a short speech at our wedding...
He was asking me how he can thank my FH's mom, who really helped a lot with our wedding. Not financially (because she really can't), but with her time, and her efforts, and her caring.... The catch is, my FH's FATHER did NOTHING. Not a single thing. The only thing he did was give us a wedding gift (in advance, so we could use it to pay for the honeymoon) - but he would've had to give us a wedding gift anyway. He has plenty of money, and didn't offer to pay anything else. He didn't offer time, assistance, NOTHING.
So anyway, my dad wants to thank FMIL in his speech, without making it look horrible that he's not saying anything to FFIL... Any advice on how he can do this?

On a side note, FFIL and FMIL are divorced.

Re: STICKY INLAW QUESTION

I would tell your dad to put the thanks to her in the middle of the speech instead of at the end.

'and I am espcially greateful to (FMIL's name) for her tremndous help to my daughter while planning' tell him to mention something specific, like a hard task that she did.

I love these!!!

I think your dad should def thank the fmil. Just a line or two that says something along the lines of

This is a very special day for me as I am sure it is for (fmil) and (ffil). Fh is a wonderful gentleman and I believe that FMIL and FFIL have certainly had a hand in raising the man that I feel such ease in giving away my daughter to him. I would also like to thank FMIL for collaborating with my wife to make this event a lovely and memorable one for everyone.

How about something like that. I mean it kinda groups the mom's together like a team. I don't know. What do you think?

I agree with LisaJill. Your dad can thank his parents for raising him to be the man he is today and then specifically say how much you appreciated the time & effort FH's mother gave to you. I wouldn't be so harsh on the father, some guys just don't realize what it takes to pull a wedding together and think that too many people involved makes a mess. He may not have realized he had anything to offer, and I do think it was nice to advance you your wedding gift so you had it for the honeymoon. Maybe he'll surprise you and give you another gift once the wedding rolls around.
