So figuring out the STD list has put me in a really sticky situation. One of my best friends since I was 5- she's one of my BMs- : her parents are divorced. Both of them have always treated me like family, and when FH & I got engaged her mom said how I've always been like a second daughter to her.
I want to send them both a STD, and obv invite them both to the wedding. Here's the tricky part: My mom and her mom had a huge fight about 8 years ago. It was over something stupid and it was completely MY mom's fault.
My mom asked me a few months ago 'You're not inviting _________, are you?' and I said no to both her and her ex-husband then, b/c I will not invite one and not the other.
I feel really funny not inviting them, but I don't want there to be drama. My mom is not someone who you can just 'talk to' . She will either start a screaming/cursing match, or just say 'Do what you want.' So talking to her is not an option.
I am not comfortable inviting just one of them. I am not comfortable inviting neither of them. I just want to invite both of them. There will be 300 guests, so my mom could avoid her. What should I do!?!?!??

Re: Sticky Situation
Normally I would suggest telling your mom how you feel, but since you can't talk to her about it, could you try writing it out in an email or letter or whatnot? Just explaining how you feel?

Re: Sticky Situation
I would invite both her and her ex-hubby. And about your mom and that woman not speaking, like you said, there will be so many people there, your mom could just avoid her…

Re: Sticky Situation
if you could count on your mom totally avoiding her, which is totally possible, i say invite them. its YOUR wedding and those are people that YOU want there. if they would make you happy to see them on your big day, then do it. thats my little two cents. your mom will be busy enough and have enough on her mind that the last thing she should have energy for is a stupid fight

Re: Sticky Situation
ITA I have a similar situation and I am going with the fact that it is my day...there will be enough people to distract my mom!

I would invite both of them because it seems like you really want them both there.

Re: Sticky Situation
Invite who you want to invite...to be honest people usually come together and forgive differences for a little while at weddings because it is such a joyous occasion!

Re: Sticky Situation
this is your wedding. the invite list consists of people you are close to. therefore, invite them. would you not invite would best friend because your mom didnt get along with her?? i doubt it. or your FILs?? doubt it. invite them.

Re: Sticky Situation
I would invite both of them if that is what you want and your mom has to understand its your wedding and your guest list and if she has a problem she doesnt have to speak to them all night if she doesnt want to she can just avoid talking to them.

Re: Sticky Situation
Sometimes, we forget that we cannot please everyone when it comes to our wedding but you know what? It's your day and you should invite who YOU want! My mom really dislikes one of my daughter's teachers but my child adores her and asked if she can come. I said yes b/c I personally like the woman and I would feel awkward going to anymore of her events for her children and not invite her to my wedding. We are close in that way. My mom can simply avoid her. It's my day doggonit!!

Re: Sticky Situation
Id suggest either writing your mom a note like someone else said. This will give your mom time to process what you said. Or just inviting them.

Re: Sticky Situation
Invite them both but sit them very far away from each other. explain to your mom that these are your wishes.
