Ok, time is flying by and we still haven't booked a honeymoon. As most of you know, we don't like to fly and we only have five days for our honeymoon so we really don't want to have a long drive.
Have checked into Poconos (don't really like the resorts where you have to eat with other couples), Montauk, Salem, etc.
Please advise of any place you have been to recently that's within 1, 2 or 3 hour drive from Long Island that is clean, comfortable and not crazy expensive that we can just relax, have some good meals and maybe have a few things to do nearby.
I really appreciate it ladies-I know alot of you have already given us some great ideas-just trying to narrow it down.
Thanks again!!

Why don't you try taking a cruise that leaves from NY?

Re: Still having a honeymoon dilemma
Have you looked into New Hampshire at all? It's probably about a 5 hour drive depending on what part you visit, so it may be longer than you are looking for, but I wanted to throw it out there ... We are moving there in 2-3 years, as I have mentioned, and there are so many different areas to visit. Portsmouth is a really great town, Plymouth is adorable, and North Conway's great too, which is where Mt. Washington is and you can drive it (big mountain, biggest on the east coast I think aside from Pike's Peak? Is that even on the east coast???). Portmouth is anbout 1 hour no of Boston (which is also a great suggestion, LOTS to do there), and then Plymouth is in the middle of the state almost, and N. Conway is about 2 hours no of Portsmouth. You can spend a different night in each area if you like to do that (we love it).
Or: Mystic CT Providence, RI Newport, RI Baltimore, MD Philly Boston Cape Cod Washington DC
Good luck!

Re: Still having a honeymoon dilemma
What about Baltimore? There are a load of things to do down there...and it's a very nice harbour type area...
Another suggestion - Hersheypark & the Amish area around it... Dorney Park is not far from there if you are theme parky people...
Let me think on this - we're HUGE road trippers...
Vermont - you could do Ben & Jerry, Magic Hat Brewery, Vermont Teddy Bear....
Mystic Connecticut is also nice...my parents went and said it's overrated...but i've heard nice things...
Cooperstown is also lovely - Baseball hall of Fame, there's a WONDERFUL cider mill up there... We go once a year - it's wonderful!!!
Hope this helps!!!

Maine is great, too. I didn't mention it because it is kinda far, and you said you wanted to go somewhere tops 3 hours away ... but Portland is great (only an hour from portsmouth, so you could do both ... ) and really great. I know an amazing seafood restaurant in Portland if you go. And a great place for breakfast in Portsmouth.

Re: Still having a honeymoon dilemma
Newport, RI
FH and I just recently took a roadtrip there for fun and because FH is such a sweet talker he got us upgraded to an ocean view room with a balcony for free!!! So if you tell them it's your HM I'm sure they will do the same! We stayed at the Hyatt. It was gorgeous! Very close to the town that everyone goes to walk around and get food- and has lots of art stores too! Lots of fun and a nice pool and spa to relax in as well!!!

Re: Still having a honeymoon dilemma
You mentioned Salem but I'm guessing you didn't like the idea. For an Oct. HM in Salem you will have fun because it goes full swing with the history of witch hunts. It was a lot of fun when I went!

I did that Norwegian cruise from NY for my honeymoon and hated it. You spend two full days on the boat going there and coming home and they make you pay for drinks, and everything else. The only thing you don't pay for is the food. It was crowded, we barely spent any time in the bahamas, and I really didn't care for it. Most people on that cruise didn't think it was all that great either.
