Still need help on flowers...

Original post by autumnbride10

What flowers can I get for less than $1000? Does anybody have any ideas for bok's?

I am confused.
Are you getting married in Gettysburg, as in Virginia ?

can you see this one?

I loooove those. But I think the tulips and ranunc....whatever are both spring flowers. I think ranunc ... have a very short 'in-season' time, similar to peonies, which are really only in season in may and part of june.

Here is a good site for you to take a look at:

Sierra Flower Finder

You can look up names of flowers and they show you pictures and tell you about them ...

So...are my only options roses and 'fallish' mum types then?

If Victorian is your theme, then roses are the best option. Nothing else is quite Victorian. Look for baby's breath or wax flower as a filler to give that soft look. See if they can get some lavender
blooms or late summer salvia to mix with roses.

Unless you want to spend money, it will be difficult to get spring flowers in the fall, and unfortunately, those are the ones you are looking for.

Have you asked the local florists in Gettysburg if they can get fall hydrangea that won't wilt in the bo-ks ?

Victorian Wedding ideas
Orange blossoms are very pricy. Substitute small white orchids.

I have a feeling, that roses may be my only option...doe they have big soft looking ones? I just didn't want a tight bo-k....

Best thing is to explain your vision, your theme and your budget to the florists and see what they can come up with.
As for roses that open wide, I would again ask the florist. They may be able to force some of the flowers open.

Have you considered carnations ? I know they have a bad rep as a cheap flower, but I happen to like them in their natural state, not dyed. They have that fluffy look you are looking for and can be mixed with roses quite nicely.

Tight bo-k ? - meaning not tied tightly so the flowers appear looser ?
A cascade is not a tight bo-k. The flowers are fitted into a plastic holder filled with florist foam.
A presentation bo-k will sit over your arm, somewhat like what pagent queens carry. Those are also loose.

Mixed Roses with spray roses and cockscomb (the ruffled burgundy flower)
Cockscomb (celosia) is a traditional fall flower. I used it in my CPs. Comes in different colors.

Loose as in these type of bok-s....

Choose larger flowers- you wont need as many of them. Tiny flowers tend to cost more in the long run. Peonies for example are expensive for one stem, but you need less of them so then end up being cheaper in the long run!

Peonies are out of season for her October wedding, and therefore out of her budget.

The loose bo-k can be made easily by the florist. Just tell him/her what you want. The pics you posted also have a lot of filler, which give the bo-ks an airier look to them. Nothing wrong with that.

I was hoping for one or two peonies....I didn't think it would cost so much....

You would think it would be easy enough...I showed a florist these pics, and when he was finished with me, my wedding flowers looked more like this....
