I know this is a stupid question- but i'm getting married in May and my dress is about 50 lbs - do i HAVE to wear stockings ?? is it tacky and trashy if I don't ?? - I thought it was fine until my mom's 'sewing circle' flipped out on me !

I actually want to wear thigh highs, I think they are so sexy, my problem is I want to wear open toe shoes, that might be tacky! Maybe I'll do without
You can wear thigh highs with open toe shoes, just make sure they're sandal foot and not reinforced toe. I went to see a photographer and he showed me proofs from a wedding where the bride was wearing reinforced toe with open toe shoes--now THAT's tacky!!!

Re: stockings under your gown ?
I think I am in the minority here - I am wearing stockings. I don't want my feet to blister, which they usally do if I am not wearing stockings (unless I am wearing sandals or sneakers). Thigh highs I find can get uncomfortable and it will be a looooong day.

Im not wearing any...how would I ever go to the bathroom if on top of the gown I had that to deal with...
I am wearing regulation 1860's undergarments for just this reason!! I won't have the hose & bathroom issue, my thighs won't chafe nor will I get the blisters from the TH stockings.
I'm making it all myself - except the corset - so that it's silky and sexy for when the dress comes off!
Besides -- FH Is a history buff.. I think he'll get a kick out of seeing petticoats and corset covers!!

Do you have a pic of what these look like? Is it like long underwear?

I'm too short for thigh highs They always fall down! It's regular stocking for me
I have the same problem!
One day, the thigh highs industry will stop oppressing the vertically challenged!

I am not wearing stockings at all! I am not comfortable in them and so I am not wearing them. I do not care what people think or say. It is my day!

I don't want to wear stockings! Wait till my mother hears that! Just an FYI, they do make stockings called 'Hose Without Toes'....your toes stick out, and you can wear sandles etc...

Don't wear stockings if you don't want to! Who will know anyway- is the sewing circle going to look under your dress during your wedding?
I hate stockings and I won't wear them to my wedding- I plan to wear Spanx- so at least I feel held in but my legs will be bare so I will be more comfortable. I wear them all the time and love them! I am wearing open toed shoes and i hate the look of stockings with open toed shoes! Just my opinion.

I am not wearing stockings for my wedding. I hate stockings!!!!!! They're itchy & hot.
Same here!! I was hot just at my fitting yesterday so there is NO WAY I'll be in stockings (and believe me, I am the person who is always cold!!).

Its your day, if you don't want to wear stockings, don't. The only person who will really know (besides your BP) is you FH. Personally, I wore thigh high, I didn't get any rash, but I always wear thigh highs to fancy events.

I'm wearing thigh highs but I'm wearing closed toed shoes. If I were wearing sandals, I wouldn't wear stockings/thigh highs at all.

Re: stockings under your gown ?
I'm definitely wearing pantyhose. I don't want my feet to get all sweaty and sticky in my shoes, and I need the 'sucking in' action for the tummy!

Not really. Long Underwear brings to mind Long Johns or something!
A chemise goes next to your skin. The corset goes on top of that. Then you have pantalettes(also known as bloomers) which are like knee length and split down the middle. You put the hoop or petticoat over that. And if you want to be really regulation - you also wear a corset cover to hide the bones in the corset. I don't think that will be needed... as most don't use steel bones in corsets anymore!
I'm going to make all this from silk and satin with ribbons and embroidery and be as girly as I can get!!
I will hunt around for pix and post later. I got nothing else to do at work today!!
