I know this is a stupid question- but i'm getting married in May and my dress is about 50 lbs - do i HAVE to wear stockings ?? is it tacky and trashy if I don't ?? - I thought it was fine until my mom's 'sewing circle' flipped out on me !

Not really. Long Underwear brings to mind Long Johns or something!
A chemise goes next to your skin. The corset goes on top of that. Then you have pantalettes(also known as bloomers) which are like knee length and split down the middle. You put the hoop or petticoat over that. And if you want to be really regulation - you also wear a corset cover to hide the bones in the corset. I don't think that will be needed... as most don't use steel bones in corsets anymore!
I'm going to make all this from silk and satin with ribbons and embroidery and be as girly as I can get!!
I will hunt around for pix and post later. I got nothing else to do at work today!!
What is your dress like?

SPANX are a brand of hosiery that is amazing! My favorite are the 'Power Panties'. Here is what the website says about them: 'The world’s first performance underwear combines the comfort of regular underwear, feel of hosiery and power of a shaper. Eliminating the leg band creates body shaping control that’s both comfortable and flattering.'
They have the look of biker shorts but they are hosiery that really sucks you in without reating the buldge that other control top stockings give you (you know- that second stomach).
They also have some that go past your knee. They are all really comfortable, the last a long time, they suck you in without doing other bad things, and they are great for open-toed shoes.

I get mine at Bloomingdales but I think a lot of department stores carry them. They are a bit pricey but totally worth the $25 because they last a long time!

MoriLee #2313. Its heavy satin.. so I don't think that a layer of silk underneath is going to show through.
I haven't found any pix of what I am talking about -- so i'll have to scan the pattern cover when I get home tonite.
