At my cousin's wedding someone stole the money in the card box!!!! Can you believe this?!!!
How many of you will keep the money in the card box? or designate someone to take it out periodically and hold it safe?
I can't believe this could happen!!! This makes me scared to trust that the money will be in there at the end of the night!
Any words?

Re: Stolen Card Box

Re: Stolen Card Box
this is what the cardbox at my wedding looked like, ill post apic
it wasnt an open box or a box with a lid you can just open. Infact even when we had to open it we had to practically rip it apart lol. You have to pull the ribbon on top pull it apart and then you can pull the bottom lid off. So people were not able to just take things. Plus ours was big so would've been noticeable if someone tried leaving with it.
I know SOME think card boxes or big ones are tacky but i did it for this reason. One of my closest friends went to a wedding where the whole thing was stolen, they were able to hide it easily and leave with it, and ive heard of it happening other times.
WE had no problems and didnt have to worry about it all night or even sit to really watch it. Our maitre'd was by it alot and our Bridal attendant was by it most of the night.

Wow it was big, but that def. worked! I bought one and its not very big, its 15 inches tall and 13 inches wide...
So as long as my bridal attendant is by it we should be OK BUt i still can't believe it! I feel so bad for them!

Re: Stolen Card Box
our card box was very big, and it was right by our table and my bridesmaids table at all times. you couldnt get anything out of it easily (we had to cut open a hole in the bottom to get our cards out) and we would have noticed if someone tried to leave with it. well, i'd like to think we would.... apparently DH's little bro posed for a pic where he is 'stealing' it and pretending to run down the stairs with it. i think i have that shot in my album
that's scary though!

Re: Stolen Card Box
I'm just wondering who's doing the stealing, is it just random people walking off the street and to your hall?

Re: Stolen Card Box
I think Im getting one of those baggies for either me or the MOH to carry I only say that cuz at my friends wedding someone gave her the card with the money and she put it down to take a picture and forgot to pick it up again and it disappeared...she thinks the staff accidentally threw it out since this was at the end as clean up was happening

You know what that is so scary but possible! A dj I was just talking to told me to come down to a wedding he is doing at my RH soon and to see him and where he sets up the booth! I said NO WAY b/c i wouldn't want some random person coming in and looking around even if it is before the cocktail hour is over I don't want anyone in my RH unless they are my guest on the day of my wedding

Re: Stolen Card Box
a suggestion to all of you-- do a walk through with your bridal manager and find out where they usually put the gift table and where the card box goes. we had ours right next to us in the room with 90 pairs of eyes on it the whole time. check out where the entrances to the room are in relation to the box too, to see if someone could conceivably come in without being seen and take something.
I made our box, and while it wasn't as large as some others I have seen, it was large enough that you couldn't walk out with it, and it was difficult to open, so someone would have to wrestle with it to get it to come open.
But do keep security in mind when you do your walk throughs. It is SO important, especially if there are random people or other events going on at your RH during your wedding.

Re: Stolen Card Box
I FM'd the girl who started this post & she just told me it's not the whole box...it was the cash inside. I am not sure how this happened but the email was not very clear.
I was really wondering how someone could walk out with the box & nobody stop them.

Re: Stolen Card Box
The card box was stolen at my cousin's wedding...the guy must be a professional...he came in wearing a tux so he looked like a waiter and then grabbed it...they noticed pretty quickly and the security and police chased him through smithtown....I'm pretty sure they caught him...thank god it was mostly checks so he was throwing them on the floor

Re: Stolen Card Box
mine is small so im seriously considering bolting it down somehow (my father is a pro at these things) and/or removing some cards at various points and putting them in a safer place so that if something does happen, ALL wouldnt be lost

Re: Stolen Card Box
our card box can't be opened unless you unwrap it...pic posted...and it will be placed right behind our table! i can't believe that happened to your cuz...that's awful!
that's aweful!!! what is WRONG with people?! hopefully most of the gifts were checks & can't be cashed(and hopefully the guests will cancel & re-write them)...but it's still aweful that she's going to miss out on all those cash gifts my card box was huge & was behind us all night..even if we were up dancing i dont think it would've been possible for someone to walk out with it & not be noticed!

Re: Stolen Card Box
In order to get the cards out of our pumpkin you would have had to turn it upside down (not exactly unobtrusive) or rip it apart.
