Hi ladies. I have read some posts about some of you that are experiencing stomach problems, and i myself have ibs. i was wondering if anyone else is afraid of their stomach acting up on their wedding day. It makes me really nervous to think about(which of course will make my stomach worse) i don't take any medications and was wondering if any of you are taking any you can suggest. my main problem is diarrhea and i would love to hear about any medication that could make me feel a little better. thanks ladies. (we should start our own tummy support group )

Re: Stomach Troubles
I am joining this group too. As most of you know, I have stomach problems too. I had a colonoscopy about a month ago too. I take a prescriped Zantac every night before I go to bed and my Dr. also gave me Nulev to use when I fell like I am having a attack. FI is so careful with me that everytime we go out to eat he is always asking 'Can you eat that?'. If I only ate stuff that I can eat, I probably would be eating nothing.

My SIL had a lot of the same problems that you guys are describing and took a lot of the same meds and they worked for a while. When she got pregnant it became unbearable and she ended up misscarrying that baby but she went through extensive tests and found out what they thought was ibs and other general stomach problems was really celiac disease. ASK YOUR DOCTORS TO TEST YOU!!! ..they wont if you dont ask. here is a website that gives a lot of good info http://www.celiac.com/
I hope this helped someone
I was going to say the EXACT same thing. My SIL too was exactly like Elyssa's. WHen she was pregnant she had horrible stomach problems. Luckily, her baby was born healthy but she was tested for Celiac Disease and has it. I think most doctor's don't test for it so it goes undetected but it's very important to get tested for it. It's a severe allergy to gluten and wheat.

my ibs comes in waves. i find that if i eat alot of carbs it is worse. lately i have been eating alot of grilled chicken, lean meats on bbq, alot of fish and steamed veggies. also i virtually stopped eating diary with the exception of yogurts.
Have you ever been tested for Celiac's disease. While carbs and dairy can aggravate IBS, they are almost lethal for a celiac. It's a simple blood test.. I suggest you have it done.
Edited: Missed the above posts, sorry.

Have you been diagnosed with anything? My father has severe colitis and my siblings and I all have very bad stomach problems. Right now they say I only have IBS...no colitis yet I was tested for everything and like eogara said the results were inconclusive. The dr. said there is nothing they can do for me...and I got a second opinion that said the same thing. That is when I tried changing my diet and for the past 2 months I have been doing a lot better

Re: Stomach Troubles
I had gastroscopy done couple of years ago and they said what I have gastrointestinal reflux disease and gave me a whole list of what I should stay away from... the doctor told me to repeat the procedure every few years... it just sucks because I have to stay away from all these things that I love like for example chocolate when I think on it everything pretty much makes me sick

Re: Stomach Troubles
I've got IBS and got perscribed Dicyclomine, which is a generic of bentyl. I take one of those when it's acting up and it usually goes away fairly quickly. If it's a really bad case i have to take it 3 times a day, and then i take fiber pills...
Good luck

One of them (the first year) explains IBS and the theory behind her diet. The diet is based on soluble fiber. Then it gives you suggestions for changing your habits (eating, excercise, etc) week by week. The other one is more about specific foods and recipes. The 'IBS the first year' is the book that helped me most. The author has a website Click Here

I was very nervous the day of my sister's wedding (I was her MOH and she was freaking out all night) and when I woke up the morning of her wedding I felt sick to my stomach! I ate a bagel in the morning and took 2 Immodiums and I was fine all day My Dr. also gave me a prescription that dissolves on the back of your tongue suppossed to stop cramping and diarrhea. It doen't work too well for me though.

Re: Stomach Troubles
Thanks so much for bumping this for me julz! I have always had stomach problems but for the past year it has become unbearable where it has affected my school, work, etc. I finally went to have it checked from the urging of my FH and my doctor said its IBS he is calling in a prescription for me and I am going to buy the books Julz recommended. I can't even narrow down what it is that triggers it. Sometimes it's dairy but other times its just about anything. At least I'm not alone in this

Re: Stomach Troubles
You are not alone. I have Crohns and it sucks. I'm lucky now that I may be in remission since my symptoms are mild. But last year I was very sick. It the hospital for 8 days unable to eat. Almost had surgery, but they decided against it. For those who have Crohns I read a book called Coping with Crohns Diease. It really helped me put it in perspective.
I've had it since I can remember..maybe as a child. I was always running to the bathroom. Suffice to say that I know all restrooms for wherever I go and where they are in between my destinations.
Foods that bother me are: Caffeine Aspartame (Equal) Romaine or Iceberg Lettuce (Although Mesculin is fine) Spinach
I guess I'm lucky that more foods don't bother my tummy. Or now, I'm ok, but it is a chronic disease and usually somewhat progressive. I will probably need surgery at some point to remove damaged intestine.
